Waited for an hour to get into the building in the cold outside. Was relatively efficient and the process was straightforward without any issues.

I had my K-1 consulate appointment on March 4, 2020, shortly before things got really bad with COVID-19.

My appointment was for 7.30am. I got there at 7.15am to wait in line and was told to come back at 7.30 sharp. I came back at 7.25am and was second in line; there were maybe 8-9 people in line total. A few minutes past 7.30am, we were let in. First, I gave my passport to a woman at a podium; she handed me two identical numbers. Then we went through security. I put my bag, coat, belt through the X-ray machine. A security guard had me take my phone and headphones out of my bag and check them; I was given a key for those.

I headed up to the first floor as instructured. I waited 5 minutes before being called to the first window. I handed one of the numbers to the clerk. I didn't receive a laminated sheet with the order to put my documents in, probably because there were so few people. She first asked me for my fiancé's name, address in US, and my addres... read complete review

Consular Interview in Montreal, Canada

I arrived in Montreal the day prior. It started off a little bumpy, as there was some mechanical issue with the first Westjet plane at Toronto Pearson Airport so we had to disembark and board another flight to Montreal.

I took an Uber from Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport to my hotel at Residence Inn by Marriott (cost about $33 CAD). I chose this hotel because it was a 3-minute walk away from the US Consulate General. I also had “gold” membership status (thanks to my American Express which I obtained for immigration purposes) and received a free upgrade and a late check-out at 2 pm.

I arrived at my interview at 0915. My appointment time was 0930. As expected, I was turned away by the security guard. They would not allow me to wait out the time in the hallway because of the RBC security guard so I went over to Second Cup to pass the time because it was raining. I returne... read complete review

Here is a detailed review of my experience at the US Consulate:

My appointment time was at 9:30 am. I went around 9:25 am and was turned away by the security guard. The line was completely full.

I came back at 9:30 am and was permitted entry. The security guard let another lady in after me, she was turned away twice already and her appointment time was at 9:30am as well. We waited in line for around an hour.

The security guards were definitely off of their game. They were gossiping about other people who were present (there was an incident where a lady raised her voice because of the wait, they were gossiping about her.) Another lady went through the metal detector and the officer asked if she had a belt on, as she set it off. She said no, but she’s wearing an underwire bra. He rolled her eyes and scoffed- as if it was wrong of her to do so. She said sternly: “SORRY MY BOOBS ARE BIG.” I chuckled at that. They wer... read complete review
