My experience at the consulate was very smooth, I got in at 9:30am and was out by 10:30am. Just dress up warm and arrive about 10-15 mins before your interview time, since one lady's interview time said something on the letter vs what the guards had (earlier time). So better to arrive at least 15 mins ahead as it seemed like they would call you at 15 mins interval.

Also, everyone was professional, but it was hard to hear the security people with masks on. So when I went upstairs, I thought they told me to go to window #7, but I had to clarify with the lady upstairs. At the window, I waited about 10-15 mins and they finally took my passport because it seemed a bit confusing as the staff inside the glass walls only took your passport when they had some free-time in between whatever they were doing. After they took your passport, finally they call your name and from here on out everything seems straightforward like other people have mentioned. You just have to show up at d... read complete review

Finally approved. The Montreal consulate (although recently doing much better) has had a track record for over a year of delays and low performance in comparison with similar countries. I am happy they are catching up but frustrated they delayed myself and many other people. The consulate itself was clean and nice. The overall experience getting my interview was professional and efficient so no complaints there. 5 for experience in the consulate, a 1 on the wait time to get the interview.

My interview was on Jan 6th.
In the beginning everything went well. Officer asked for the documents and I had them all.

I am originally Iranian and because of that she REFUSED my application under the section 212(f) pursuant to Presidential Proclamation 9645. That was the Trump’s travel ban.

But she kept my passport and said she will request for some more documents to review my eligibility for a waiver.
I have provided them in the past 2 weeks but still no news.

Although on January 20, 2021, President Biden signed a Presidential Proclamation titled “Ending Discriminatory Bans on Entry to the United States.” which removed Trumps travel ban, still my application shows as refused.

I hope it will change to Processing or Submitted shortly.

My interview experience was good apart from the fact that I was nervous. When I got there they asked for my passport, then I went though security as in the airport. After that they asked me to take the elevator and go to window .

After that, a polite lady called me and asked for some documents like passport, address, photos, etc. When she was done, I sat down again and waited for the interview. It didnt take too long, I guess 5 minutes and then they called me for the interview.

Here are the questions:

Where we met, Where are we going to live in the US, If I was ever illegal (3x) and I answered no(3x). She asked that because I changed my tourist visa to student visa when I was in the US and She asked me to sit down while she checked in the system. When she called me again she said you're visa is approved and gave me some papers and welcomed me.
