My fiancée went through the Vancouver consulate for her K1 Visa, and I accompanied her to the interview. I have no complaints, and everyone I encountered was profession and courteous. We had emailed them on a number of occasions and they always replied. Once they didn't reply for 3 days, but on another occasion I even have had replies to my emails almost instantly. The CO who take our interview was very nice, and friendly. We came at 10, got our interview around 12 and they told us to come back for the visa at 2pm.

They are very thorough on security and will not allow you to take even a standard laptop size bag, so better to have a plastic box or bag if you have lots of paperwork. And no cell phones, electronics, food, drink, etc.

The restroom is on the 2nd floor so if you have to go while waiting you will have to come back from the main entrance and go through security again. Take your letter and an Id with you just to be safe.

I reently went through the Montreal Consulate (see my timeline for date) and I have nothing but praise for my experience there. As soon as I entered the (guarded) building I emptied my pockets, went through a buncha security checks, was told to go down the stairs and to the right onto the Elevator to the 19th floor. From there I was told to go to window 14 (cashier). I didn't have to pay anything (right away) so I handed in my appointment letter and was given a number. I waited for my number to be called, and then I was just asked to confirm my current address, my future US address and hand over my medical envelope (sans X-RAY, turns out I didn't need that at all) and my passport. I was also asked to go to window 14 and pay a "differential" fee of $45 (I kinda expected something like that). Then I was told to sit down and wait for my number to be called again. I waited approx 15mins and then I was into a windowless room with a man behind soundproof (and probably bulletproof) glass. Mic... read complete review

Vancouver was excellent; the staff were pleasant (even to the point of some of them joking around with us). We were there just after 9 and were first in line for the K visas. We were out by 11, had the visa by 1:30.

I knew about the washrooms being far away so I limited my coffee that day and used the facilities at the swanky restaurant we went to for lunch (thanks to a salesperson I worked for years ago who gave me gift certificates to it).

The worst part of the whole experience was that it poured rain (which I don't mind), so downtown traffic a nightmare for getting home.

Vancouver consulate was Awesome.

There were 2 guards outside. One was very nice, one was really nasty to everybody. Once I went inside, things went rather smoothly. The lady that gathered all the documents from me was super nice. We chatted a bit about how useless Exhusbands who refuse to allow the child to move , usually tend to call the moms to come get the child after only a few months. She says she sees this happen on a daily basis.
The Con Off who interviewed me was very nice, had travelled to Utah ( where I'm moving to) and laughed & Joked with me ( He especially liked our matching Tattooes )

The guards at the top level when you leave after picking up the visa were great ! Seemed like everyone truly enjoyed their job.

My experience in Montreal was excellent. The staff are very courteous and polite. Security personnel are very straight forward, but like others have said, they are just doing their job. Just make sure not to bring items that are not allowed in the embassy, such as large bags and electronic items. The CO are also very polite and they make the interview process much less stressful than I am sure it could be. Never had an problems with receiving e-mails back and yes the lady on the phone is very to the point and brisk. Received my visa the same day and was out of the embassy by 10:15am.

Best advice is to arrive around 7:30 as it is first come, first served.
