I arrived at the consulate at 6:30am, I was fortunate enough to have a friend from my home city that took the trip with me and stood outside the consulate to keep me company. About 15 min. after arriving a woman and a man both for their visas showed up at 6:45 so I was glad to be the first one there. Sure enough by 7:15 there was a long line of people. At 7:35 the lights inside the building turned on and the guard took the chain off the front door. Said goodbye to my friend, he wished me luck and the guard stepped outside. He asked who was first in line and he told me to enter the door, I handed him my interview letter, and was told to enter the building. Once inside, there was another guard that asked for my passport and to put all my belongings into a bin to go through the x-ray machine. Was told to step through the metal detector and then was told to go downstairs and wait. After spending about 10 min. in an awkward basement room with 4 other people also applying for their visas, ... read complete review

I was able to reschedule the interview via email so my fiance could attend when he was in Vancity with me.
The interview itself was easy peasy - everyone was friendly. They asked the standard questions, no surprises.

The first person that Lynne spoke to at the American Consulate was not helpful. She was intimidating, condescending which made the first part of the interview very frustrating for her. She had to leave the consulate to get $131.00 in cash, That was my fault, I had a money order for that amount but that was not acceptable. Once that was done, she went back sat and waited around for another hour, then she was called into the room, this time she had the Consulate General himself who made her more at ease, he ask her about her experience so far, to which she replied" terrible" she explained her ordeal with the first person, he then made her feel comfortable and the rest of the interview went well. Thru all this I waited for her at a little coffee shop at the corner from the consulate. This is the way she related the story to me. Once I saw her walking towards the coffee shop, she had a glow about her telling me that the ordeal was over and ... read complete review

Everything went quite smoothly. My interview was on a Thursday and surprisingly, not too many people around. At the security check, make sure you don't have a cell phone with you. [I left mine in the car] And they check you, you go up the elevator, and they security check you again.
Everyone was amazingly nice. So simple. Asked me when we met, how we met and when we were engaged. And that was it! She said " ok your interview is over" and that was the end of it! YAY!
So please don't worry people. it's very simple!! If you're in love and in a real relationship, there is nothing at all to worry about !
