So the day of the interview we showed up early, about 6:15am. We were the first people there, and parked on the street with the meters(which don't start until 9am)We could clearly see the consulate entrance from our seats in the car. I think around 6:45 I saw someone show up and start the lineup, so I got out to get in line and my wife and son stayed in the car to stay warm(it was cold!) I was chatting it up with the people in the lineup (more were steadily showing up) for probably 15-20 minutes when I noticed my wife heading towards us with a look on her face that immediately got my attention. She proceeds to tell me that some guy had walked past our car, looked at her, then started trying to break into the minivan directly behind us. She also saw another guy standing on the corner behind us(st. catherine) apparently as a lookout. So she's freaked out, starts the car up and starts honking the horn. None of us in the lineup heard a thing. We can only conlude that the traffic from rene ... read complete review

I wanted to give a quick run down of my interview experience in Montreal Canada for those who care:

6:45 – Got in line at the Consulate. I was about the 15th in line so getting there earlier would be advised, however you wont be allowed in side until about 7:45 am.

7:45 – Go through security. The only thing you’re allowed to have in your pocket is paper money. Anything else you will have to leave with security. Don’t worry – you wont be kicked on to the street if you have a pack of smokes in your pocket.

8:00 – Wait in lower level waiting room. A security guard will escort you and a group of other to the 19th floor. The fun begins.

8:15 – Line up in the Cashier line. You would assume this is when you would pay your fee, but no. You get to the cashier, hand them your appointment letter and she will provide you will a number. I was C3 as an example.

8:30 – Wait for the number to be called or appear... read complete review

Where to begin!

I arrived in Montreal Sunday night, after a bit of getting lost I finally found my hotel. I stayed at Le Square Phillips which is an absolutely beautiful hotel. A bit pricey but a great room with a kitchenette. It felt like a little apartment, was very clean and the staff were super friendly. I ate at a little Mexican place on Peel St (about 5 blocks from the Consulate.. a 10 minute walk) called Carlos and Pepes. They had really good guacamole and chicken Fajitas.

I was planning on being up at 6ish so I could be awake, grab Timmies (about a 1 minute walk from the hotel) and get to the consulate, which was only a 5 minute walk away. I woke up before my alarm (5:40 ew) so I was awake and out the door before I expected. Got to the consulate at about 6:15 and lined up on the side with the yellow posts. At around 6:30 I was joined by Tdotgirl who is really nice, and another girl came at about 6:45. Shes not on VJ but she does read it. Dalene was... read complete review

We got to the consulate at about 7:15AM on November 20, 2009. There were about 20 people lined up in front of us. At about 7:50AM, the doors opened and we slowly filed in and went through security checks. They don't mention on the form that liquids aren't allowed, but they do check for it. I had my hand sanitizers in my purse, which they let me keep, but forgot about my USB key, which they temporarily took away and gave it back after my interview. At about 8:30, a group of us sat in a room right next to an elevator, and a security guard took us up to the 19th floor. We then went to counter 14/cashier and got a number (A1, B2, C3, D4, for example). The cashier was really nice and gave us our number C8. We had to wait a while for our number to be called. At about 9:30AM, our number was called and we went to counter 10. A nice lady went through my file and made sure everything was filled properly (everything was fine) and gave me a slip to pay at the cashier. Since we didn't have enough o... read complete review

After I posted my medical review, I thought it would only be appropriate to share my experiences with you all about how it went at the US Consulate. I was able to communicate with them via e-mail several times, and they were always able to get back to me the next day. When it came to scheduling my interview, I e-mailed them to let them know that I wanted to schedule my medical the day before my interview, and make sure that it would all be done in the same week so I wouldn't have to go back and forth between Winnipeg and Vancouver. The next day after I had sent the e-mail, I received a reply, getting the date that I wanted as long as I faxed my checklist.

Anyways, to my interview! I left my hotel at about 12:30ish as my interview was at 1:00pm. I headed over to the Consulate in a taxi, and got there at about 12:40ish or so. To get into the Consulate, you have to go through one door, where there is a security guard standing there. Because I was a little bit early and beca... read complete review
