My fiance D. and I drove up to Montreal, from Connecticut, the night before the interview. We had booked a hotel on hotwire.com and ended up getting, for 100$ + tax, a room at the Holiday Inn Midtown at 420 Sherbrooke West (right next door to Medisys, in case any of you need to pick up your medical results in the morning, or something). The location was perfect; it was literally a 5 minute walk from the Consulate.
After researching this website through and through for months, I knew that I wanted to get there early in the morning. My appointment was at 8am. We left the hotel around 6:40, crossed the street quickly to buy coffee and a banana, and off we were. At the Consulate, around 6:45am, there was already about 8 people standing in line (on the wrong side, it took everything in me not to stand first on the left side, hah!), some of which were the sponsors. We started talking to the couple in front of us, who were also there for a K1 - ends up he, the American, was a V... read complete review

Today my fiancé and I went to the Vancouver US consulate for our K-1 visa interview, after waiting and sending paperwork for roughly 8 months (we applied near the end of October) and being together long-distance for years.
As you'd expect, we were pretty nervous. The interview was for 10:00am, and from what we had read, the consulate was very restrictive on what you could bring inside. I didn't really want to risk my fiancé being kicked out for having an electronic car key, so we took a cab and carried light besides our pile of paperwork and evidence. It turns out they have lockers of sorts near the entrance when they search your belongings the first time, so you could probably store such things there as long as they're small. The most intimidating part was the process of getting in the building and up to the floor with the interviews, as there is a lot of security. Fortunately the interview floor gives you a chance to sit and unwind as you have to wait with other peop... read complete review

Interview was on June 11, 2012. We stayed at Hyatt Regency because everything else was fully booked thanks to the Grand Prix and all the festivity in town. Would NOT recommend for visa purpose because it was way pricey, but it was only 2 blocks from the consulate. We took a walk to the consulate as soon as we arrived the night before, less than 5-min walk.
We got to the consulate at 5:55am. Way too early. Strolled around the block for a bit and probably started waiting at 6:10am. Not sure of the exact time cus the only thing we forgot to bring on the trip was a watch! We left our cell phones and Moments later another person showed up and left, saying the line probably won't get that long. A family of 4 showed up at around 6:30am. The father was on the phone and the mother had a recyclable bag. We referred them to the chart on the door so they dropped the phone and bag back in their car. Very soon 2 other ladies showed up, a mother accompanying her daughter goi... read complete review
