I took the train from Toronto to Montreal. This was a 7 hour train ride and dropped me within an 8 minute walk from the consulate. There are hotels in the area (Hilton, Marriott, etc...) so if spending the night, this is a very economical solution rather then driving up. Montreal is full of one-way streets and driving looked to be rather painful. If you've ever been to Toronto, picture that traffic and city layout...but all one way streets. Hamilton, ON but will a lot more traffic.
When you get to the consulate you're not allowed to bring any large bags or personal effects. I had all my paperwork in a binder to protect it from the elements and make it easier to carry. You will be sent thru a metal detector like an airport. You don't need to take off your shoes, but you need to remover your jackets and anything in your pockets. Arrived by Via Train from Toronto on Sunday and checked into my hotel the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth. Talked to my husband for a couple of hours and then turned in for the night.
November 5th: Woke up and 530am, organized etc. and stopped at a bank just in case there were any further fees. Left the hotel at 71 and it as a brisk 10 minute walk northeast on Rene Levesque and turned left onto Rue St. Alexandre and joined the line. I became the 8th person in line. A very nippy morning indeed and I was thankful there was no rain. About 745am a guard finally let the first 6 people through. Then my group. A young lady asked to show the interview letter and the courier confirmation. And then I was asked to move to the right. Next I went up 3 steps and through a door to go threw a scanner similar to the airport only you didn’t have to take your shoes off.

We had our visa interview this past Friday and thought I'd write you some information about what to expect especially since there are not as many people going through the Vancouver Consulate.
For our interview at 10am, google maps suggested it was an hour drive from my place. From past experience I knew rush hour traffic would be terrible, so we thought to get there by 9:30 we should leave at 8am. In fact it took us an hour and 50 minutes to get to the consulate. It was indeed terrible traffic, so thankfully we had left extra early. We found parking easily enough (not cheap, but it was right across the road so very convenient), and walked over to the lineup at the front.
In the lineup the guards asked what we were there for and we said K1 visa. They took the paperwork and phoned upstairs (I guess to verify our appointment). Smooth process for interview in Vancouver. Friendly staff - was in and out within 90 mins, most of that time was waiting.

Here is our experience for the Vancouver Consulate.
Appt. was October 22,time was the normal 10.00 am. We arrived there around 9.40. We had stayed the night at the Days Inn which is located just on the next block 921 W. Pender 117.00/ night plus 20.00 for parking. A little steep we thought but paid for the convenience. I had just had knee surgery on the Thursday so was hobbling along on crutches.When we arrived the line was to the first set or stairs. The fellow came over and asked us what we were there for and said K1. He then said "let me see if we can find you a wheel chair" Not available, but he brought us passed everyone and got us through right away. We thought that was awesome. Only problem,, 16 steps to go up to security. Then had to do a pat down and have my crutches checked over. Once we did that we walk back through the scanner and up we went to floor 20.
