Sorry for the late review, but catching up on our timeline. Our appointment was for Tuesday morning, august 28th. We I drove up from Rhode Island and my Fiancee flew in from Toronto to meet me. We splurged on a room at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth, with a short walk to the consulate in the AM. Our experience was much as described in previous postings (thank you) except......We arrived at about 6:25, wanting to get a good place in line. We are only ones. 6:45 - only ones (we are wondering if something is wrong. 6:50- one other guy shows up and has walked a long way. He is the only one for a while. We chat and eventually ask what is in his backpack. He freeks out when we tell him the rules. He has walked a long way and has no place to put his phone, etc.. Next to show up is an oriental family (also burdened with electronics). They are freaked as well, make quick friends with the Dominican Republic guy and head off to hide their stuff. Everything else goes "somewhat" accordin... read complete review

Great advice by others on VJ allowed us to be out before 9:00am! So I'll reiterate that advice.
1. Ignore your appointment time. Ours was 10:00am but we were there around 7:00am
2. Arrive at the embassy by 7:00. Lineups start around then. We were third in line
3. Ensure you abide by the allowable items guideline to help expediate entry
4. Have you passport and courier registration letter ready
5. Doors open at 7:30 where you will present #4 above and be scanned
6. After successful entry you will go downstairs to sit by the elevator. Sit close, it opens at 8:00
7. Entering the elevator prepare to exit the rear door to the left
8. When the doors open make a sharp left and proceed to the wickets rear of the elevator and present your appointment letter. In return you will receive a call tag
9. Go have a seat and wait for your number to be called
10. 1st call will have you present specific documents and take your ... read complete review

We stayed at the Candlewood Suites at 191 Renè-Lèvesque Blvd E, Montreal. This hotel is nice. Speaks French and English. The rooms are huge and have full size kitchens with stove, oven, dishwasher, TV and DVD player. They are pretty decent priced around $100 a night plus tax. It is only about 10 minute walk to the Consulate.

We arrived around 6:45AM and waited outside until 7:30 when the guards opened the doors. We were waiting with another VJ couple so that was nice to talk to them and joke around. It set my fiance (Canadian) and myself (USC) at ease. Sort of made any nervousness go away!
We were let in. We only brought our hotel room key, IDs and small folder with all of our stuff in it. The people behind us were turned away because they had large purses and briefcases. Do NOT bring any purses. Even if YOU think it's small. We went through security and down the stairs to the holding area. They do have passport photo booth wh... read complete review

Hi,
Just a quick review of my CR-1 journey over the last 2 weeks. I had my appointment on November 5th in Montreal. Nothing special to report, my experience seemed to be similar to that of all the others at MTL. Got in line at the consulate, went upstairs, showed my documents at the first window, had my "interview" 5 mins later at the second window, and was told I was approved after some pro-forma questions.
One thing that did strike me though was how unnecessary the whole interview process was. The questions I was asked were perfunctory, and the checking of documents seemed unnecessary given how much documentation I have sent USCIS/NVC over the last few months. I have actually gone through the entire Permanent Residence process in Canada too (5 years ago) and the Canadian process was much more efficient. No need for an in-person interview, they just asked for documents by mail, requested additional information if needed, and then asked for your passport by mail a... read complete review

Arrived by Via Train from Toronto on Sunday and checked into my hotel the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth. Talked to my husband for a couple of hours and then turned in for the night.
November 5th: Woke up and 530am, organized etc. and stopped at a bank just in case there were any further fees. Left the hotel at 71 and it as a brisk 10 minute walk northeast on Rene Levesque and turned left onto Rue St. Alexandre and joined the line. I became the 8th person in line. A very nippy morning indeed and I was thankful there was no rain. About 745am a guard finally let the first 6 people through. Then my group. A young lady asked to show the interview letter and the courier confirmation. And then I was asked to move to the right. Next I went up 3 steps and through a door to go threw a scanner similar to the airport only you didn’t have to take your shoes off.
**Of note: NO CELL PHONES, NO USB KEYS, NO CAMERAS, NO FLASHLIGHTS, NO LIGHTERS, NO BIG BAGS, BRIEF CASE OR ... read complete review
