We stayed at the new Marriott Courtyard in Montreal and I was immediately happy I had chosen this hotel since I could see the consulate across the street and half a block up the street right from our hotel room which helped to relax me. The hotel was a little pricy at $160+tax and $24 for parking, but the room was beautiful and the concierge was very helpful and check out isn't until noon so I left my stuff in my room to go back to after our appointment. We took a short walk to verify the location and where to stand and everything was just like Saylin's pictures of the exterior.
In the morning, my 13 year old daughter and I got to the consulate at 6:40 and were second in line. Most everyone else there had their fiancé or spouse with them. I prepped my daughter a little bit as to what to expect and where to sit and stand with the hopes of getting out of there most efficiently. The doors opened at 7:30 and we were asked for our passports and letter then let in the doors wher... read complete review

We got there at 6:45 and were 3rd in line. The doors opened at 7:30 sharp and the guards let one petitioner at a time (along with with their daughter/friend/fiance/spouse).
A woman was sitting on the side stoop beside the stairs and asked to see my consulate interview letter and asked for my DHL reference number.
First problem! I had never registered with DHL! For some reason we skipped that whole process.
She gave us the name of the website where we had to register, we left and went around the corner on Réne Lévesque to little cafe and logged on.
I found their phone number and at 8am finally got an operator. She walked me through registeration and I got my reference number!
We went back around the corner to the Consulate and were first in line!
We got in and the up to security. We had to take put all our metal and electronic items, coins, and my wife's purse into a bin.
So if you are going, make sure you pack light as your purs... read complete review

My Visa was approved yesterday! So just wanted to give a review of the process:
My fiance and I stayed at the Square Phillips Hotel which is just about a 5min walk to the consulate. Its a really nice hotel and the staff are excellent. The night we got to Montreal, we walked around to see where the consulate was and found it right away. There were signs on the door saying that visas were issued by appointment only and the windows were all shaded and you could see the security screening equipment at the top of some stairs right inside so we knew this was the right door. The Tim Hortons was really close too which was great!
We woke up the day of the interview at 5:30 am. I went over my documents one more time and was really nervous. I had two binders FULL of papers. I put all the papers into clear plastic compartments that I could slide the papers out of easily. I also used tabs so I could flip to where I needed to as quickly as possible. We checked our bags in a s... read complete review

- Arriving -
(11/06/13)
I flew Porter from Windsor - Toronto (Billy Bishop City), Toronto - Montreal. Great experience (for the first time flying within Canada) with Porter. Lots of freebies and overall just very comfortable. Just a piece of advice. My round trip flight was priced on the Porter website at $530 (leaving Wed, return Thurs). I booked my hotel & flight through Porter Escapes and paid $488 for my flight AND hotel (Hyatt Regency, 5 minute walk to Consulate.) Once in Montreal, I hopped on the 747 shuttle to downtown. It was $9 and another great experience. It was about a 20-25 minute journey to the center of downtown.

I'd highly recommend the Hyatt Regency as long as price isn't your main concern. Its a super easy and short walk to the Consulate, there is a Starbucks right across the street and is located inside the Desjardins building which has a large underground mall & many, many dining options. The rooms we... read complete review

I was very nervous despite everyone on here saying how easy it was. I was most worried about the I-134 because we needed a co-sponsor. And that was the last of the paperwork I knew they had to go over. But I was nervous for nothing!
If you are prepared (and you are because you are reading this), you should be in and out of the consulate in an hour.
I stood in line (first one) at 6:40. One other person was there. He had a bag and electronics and I warned him to take those back to his room or leave them somewhere (he did). By the time the doors opened at 7:30, there were only 7 of us in line (included a family of 4). Search Saylin's map of the consulate and it's exactly as drawn. The first of us 3 knew all about the elevator and where to go once you are off the elevator so I got the C1 (but was called 2nd) and for my interview, I was called in 3rd.
Just have your papers ready, it will make it go quick. The interview is where my nerves sho... read complete review
