My husband and I met up at airport (I flew in from Toronto, and he came up from Florida) and took a cab to the hotel. The cab was $40. We stayed at the Comfort Suites Downtown on Crescent St. I booked the room well in advance so we got a king bed suite for $99/night (which was cheap compared to the other hotels in the area). This hotel is located in party central--so if you don't like noise, don't stay there!

We were both extremely tired and I was on the verge of becoming sick, so we decided to sleep in a little the day of our interview. I know most VJ members recommend being there first thing in the morning, but we just couldn't do it that day. We had breakfast in the hotel at 7:45, and then were at the consulate by 8:15. We took a cab from the hotel (it was raining) and it was $7.85. The guard talked to us briefly at the doors, and said my husband didn't even need to go up with me. We said he was there for moral support, and the guard just told him to not talk... read complete review

We arrived at 10 a.m. for a 10:30 a.m. interview. We went through the security at the entrance, where there was no one else in line. We took ourselves up on the elevator to the 19th floor with one other very nice man who was also there for an immigrant visa. When we stepped off the elevator, we were greeted by the receptionist who gave us a number and asked us to take a seat. There were only four people seated on the immigrant visa side. Our number was called after about seven minutes of waiting. We handed over the original civil documents and my spouse gave her fingerprints. Then we sat for another 12 minutes before being called to the interview.

The interview was the longest part of the whole experience because we asked a question. Even then, it took only about 10 minutes. Our question was whether or not our legal civil union from 2003 would have any bearing on being issued a conditional vs. immigrant visa. The civil union is the only form of marriage available to same... read complete review

It was a gorgeous day in Vancouver. We arrived on time, no line up outside whatsoever. We were ushered in, taken to the 20th floor, where there was a very short wait between moving from one booth/kiosk to another, all within the same small area. My fiance sat and waited while the consular officer asked me a few questions (how we met, when did I decide to get serious, what we both did for a living and whether I will miss my job). Then it was, "congratulations!" and we went for a celebratory lunch. It took all of 45 minutes. Totally hassle-free. Everyone I dealt with was pleasant and professional.

The interview itself was very brief and rather casual. Maybe it helped that my fiancee was with me. It was more conversational than anything, and there were definitely no difficult questions.

Everyone was pleasant to deal with.

Review Topic: General Review

My experience with the Consulate was quite positive. I had read a lot of reviews here on visajourney.com so I had a good idea what to do.

I took MegaBus from Toronto the night before the interview so I arrived running on very little sleep and a lot of energy drinks. I arrived at the Consulate at about 7 AM so there was no one in line. I lined up but facing the wrong way - line up facing towards the front of the building. Once the security guard opened the door, there is an agent checked me in - she just looked at my interview appointment letter (printed from the appointment confirmation email - this contains your Loomis information). Security is like airport security so be prepared to take off your belt and have them scan your bags. I didn't have anywhere to store my cell phone and they were able to hold it for me. However, the small compartments for holding items are tiny so don't expect them to hold a bag or anything.

After security, you go dow... read complete review
