The interview went very smoothly. I went alone to the consulate and arrived 1/2 early. They asked me to come back 15 mins later. When I arrived there was no one in line. Someone took my passport and the DS160 cover and handed those back to me. My bag was searched before going in the building - I left my cell phone behind, and only brought a small purse. Once through the door my bag/wallet/was searched again and all of my belongings went through the xray machine. Someone escorted me up in the elevator (use the washroom before getting on the elevator, there isn't one upstairs). Once upstairs I was told which window to go to. There were a few people in the waiting room. A nice guy looked through my folder and took the items he needed -- i-134, ds160 cover, the letters of intent, birth certificate and photocopy of it, criminal record check. He aske me a couple of questions - had I been arrested and charged, and had I been known by any other names. I then waited in the waiting room about 10... read complete review

I was quite nervous but it turned out to be a relatively smooth organized process. There were a ton of people lined up outside and the initial security screening was setup outside, if you're too early there's a Starbucks and Timmies a few blocks away on the same street to wait! Someone walked through the line and sorted people into lines depending on their application types. They took my DS-160 cover page and appointment confirmation and made sure I didn't have any electronics or banned items, I didn't. Then it was onto a second outdoor lineup for inside security (seemed like they only let a couple people through at a time). After the indoor security screening (similar to airport security) they gave me a ticket telling me what window to go to and we went up the elevator. There's no bathroom once you go up in the elevator but there is one next to the elevator at the security screening inside if you need it. Once upstairs I went to the window and flipped the switch and a pleasant lady ca... read complete review

Everything went great!

I arrived at about 7:30 for an 8:30 appointment, and there was already quite a long lineup. Checked in at the side door - the security guard was quite helpful when I was having trouble with my purse, documents binder and empty coffee cup. (8:30 eastern felt like 5:30am given that I'd arrived from Vancouver the day before)

Checked my keys and cellphone at the security desk and headed upstairs. I didn't feel like forcing my way through the crowd, so I was near the front of the second elevator to go up. There were a lot of people but almost all of them were there for non-immigrant visas, so the girl at "reception" gave me #4 for immigrant visas, and told me to sit in the waiting area farthest from the interview windows.

The laminated card with your number on it has a list of things you will need to provide at the first window: Interview Letter, Passport, Pictures, and Medical report, so I had those all ready. If you did E... read complete review

This was the most pleasant step of the whole process. I read the info here and was pretty much prepared. I came in at 9:00 am for a 10:00 am interview. No line at the entrance but more people were sitting inside on both immigrant and non immigrant visa sides. Everything was pretty much as per description here, except that yes they do have the receptionist now right in front of the elevator who checks your appointment letter, gives you the number and tells you where to sit. You then wait for your number to be called. It was probably 10 mins at the window to submit documents and 10 mins of interview. Both the woman and the man from each window were very nice and my visa was approved. I was asked how we met? how have we been seeing each other for past year? what does my spouse do?

My only frustration was the long wait till my number was called to each window. I came upstairs at 9:15 and left the consulate at almost 12:00. Most of the time I was just sitting and waiting. But... read complete review
