I completed my consulate interview Monday December 1, 2014,although I was feeling somewhat nervous the agent that did my interview made me feel so relaxed. While I waited for my number to be called I observed how professional the staff was for such a busy environment.

We arrived about 10 minutes early to our 7:40am interview, went through the simple security screening (be sure not to bring *any* purse/bag/backpack/cellphone/electronics since people were turned away for doing so), and went upstairs into the large waiting area.

They called Lanéa up to one of the windows and she spoke with the male officer for about 10 minutes, mostly just about papers we were asked to bring and one question about me (What did I do for a living). The officer said they were going to work on our case for a little bit and then they'd call us back up shortly.

About 20 minutes later, they called Lanéa to a different window that had a door you could close and she had a female officer this time who asked her just a few simple questions like how we met, if I had siblings, etc. Then the officer said, "Alright, well your visa is approved and here is your welcome letter. We'll take your passport and mail it out to you in about a week. Congratulatio... read complete review

My interview was on a very cold day in Montreal at 7:40 am. I live in Ottawa and from here it's about 2.5 hours drive. I had initially planned to get there a day before and stay the night but the anticipation and anxiety prolly would have killed me. So I decided to go there on my interview day. My dad and I left around 4:30 am and got to Montreal around 6:45. According to my gps I was 5 minutes away from the embassy but it was so confusing because of construction road blocks and one way streets! It was insane. We circled the place for 20 minutes! Finally found it and got there around 7:10. There were 3 people there (a group of friends) and the door was locked of course. Within 10 minutes of me getting there more people started coming. Even though we weren't technically in a line people were still nice enough to maintain a line until this awful man and his family showed up. He came with his wife and daughter who was prolly my age and they all started pushing people and made it behind me... read complete review

The process at the Montreal Consulate was pretty straight forward. You line up on the street outside (at the side door - not at the front of the building) and wait to go in. Once inside it is a typical federal building. Metal detector etc... Do not bring any extra stuff with you. Even a purse or briefcase as you will not be allowed to bring it in. You can bring in a file folder for your papers. Wait time wasn't too long and the interview was very basic and straightforward. I was given an approval letter on the spot. Everyone was nice enough, although not overly excited about their jobs I don't think. Kind of a boring process for everyone involved I think.

Please help, I need to understand a few things.

I am new to this site so might be posting on the wrong part of the forum, if so please direct.
I have an interview in MTL in less than three weeks, the interview is at 7:40 am.

My questions are:
1 - what time does the consulate open? I plan to be there at 7am but does that mean we have to stand outside and brave the Montreal winter morning (in december) for an hour? I am ok but fear my wife might not.
2 - Is there ample parking at the embassy or do we have to park at public parking?
3 - Any reasonable priced hotel we should stay at ?

Any inputs would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance.
