Because I have read a lot of reviews on here that discuss getting delayed and/or other negative outcomes, I wanted to quickly drop a note from a more positive experience. If anything, our bigger delay was the time between my spouse being approved by USCIS and her children being approved. USCIS issued my wife's approval in late October but then didn't approve the children until February. So that was very frustrating because the first approval triggered the NVC process and we were really hopeful to have things moving fairly quickly. However, this turned out to be somewhat good anyway, because in gathering all the documents for NVC, we found a couple of issues that took time to fix. So by the time the children were approved in February, we really had our documents correct.
As for the consulate in Montreal, after a February approval from USCIS, the NVC did their paperwork approval in a couple of weeks and then they notified us in April of an early May interview time. My wife... read complete review

Checking in:
I arrived at the embassy at 7:25 for my 7:30 AM appointment. When the embassy opened, an officer put everyone in chronological appointment order. I was checked in at the lobby by another officer using my full name. Inside on the main floor, another administrator checked my passport and put a purolator sticker on the back of my passport (I had pre-registered for shipping). They also gave me a card showing a checklist of what documents to have ready. They also gave me two slips of paper with the same number on it.
Security:
An officer directed me to put my belongings in the x-ray tray (like TSA) and store my cell phone in a lockbox before walking through the metal detector. Once I collected my things, I took the elevator upstairs and waited for my number to be called.
Waiting area:
There are chairs, water fountains and bathrooms. I waited until my number was called and the TV monitor directed me which visa window to go... read complete review

Waited quite a while but that’s fine, I did both my children’s CRBA’s there and knew what to expect. The officer said “I intend to approve you but our systems are down so if something comes up in your file lookout for your email, otherwise this is how you track your visa when it gets shipped back to you”. So left worried of course and 5 hours later my tracker said my visa was issued. Shipped out on a Friday received it on the Monday.

Disclaimer: This is my experience as a young white woman who is a Canadian citizen and who has never travelled anywhere besides the US & Canada. I have no children, and this is mine and my husbands first marriage.
My appointment was April 19th at 9:30 am. I got to embassy at 9:10ish, you have to wait outside. A security guard came outside with a list and asked me when my appointment was. I told him 9:30 and he brought me inside to the lobby. He took my passport and marked my name off of a list. He then led me through to where they do the security check and gave the passport to the person there.
For the security check, I had to take off my jacket, turn my phone off, remove my keys from by bag and put everything in a bin to go through the x-ray. I had a small fanny pack/ cross body bag. I had jewelery on (rings, necklace, bracelets) and I didn’t have to take them off. They only wanted to know if I was wearing a watch.
There are small lock... read complete review

My experience at Montreal is exactly the same as all the other detailed reviews posted on this site. So I want to thank everyone who posted theirs. I left my backpack at the hotel front desk, brought only my documents and a paperback book to pass the time. Overall I spent just shy of 2 hours at the Montreal office, 45 minutes waiting, 10 minutes document check and fingerprinting, 60 minutes waiting, 5 minutes interview.
Unfortunately after my largely painless document check and interview, they told me to fill out a DS 5535 for additional travel information and family information. So I have no idea when I could actually move to the USA or if I'll even be approved at all at this stage.
Just FYI, I have not visited any "suspicious" countries, I've lived in Canada for 30 years straight, I didn't work for any sensitive info or government agencies. I was born in China, not sure if that's what triggered the additional check.
