Review Topic: K1 Visa

I had my interview on January 8th at 2:30 pm. I went there around 2 and the guards let me in right away. When I went to the consular section there was one more fiance visa and a few green card interviews. I was the last one so I had to wait for a while. First I paid the fee - $265, then a guy called me to take my documents and put them in the pink folder with our approved I-129f. The documents I had were: DS-160 confirmation, passport, 1 picture, birth certificate, court certificate, marital status certificate (+copies and translations), medical exam results, and form I-134 (he didn't ask for any supporting documents for this, which i found strange, but anyways~). All the translations I made myself He didn't ask me any questions, just gave me the DHL form to fill my address. Oh, and he took our photo album too. Next step was taking my fingerprints, which is every time a whole ritual for me with my very dry hands in the very cold weather, but after lots and lots of ... read complete review

On April 23, my fiance told me that our petition is approved. On May 12, I received a letter from the embassy for visa interview. It informed me what documents I need:
- DS-160 aplication conformation page printed ( on-line fill it)
- 1 passport picture
- valid passport (at least 8 months lasting)
- birth certificate and copy of it ( I was translate it in English and had appostile for USA on it. I worried that Embassy will take it but they kindly return it to me because i will need it in USA for my marriage)
- police sertificate ( the same as above)
- certificate of family status ( the same as above)
- medical examination (only this document I have to pass it after the apointment for interview and it costed about 80 dollars and last 2-3 hours, they took me blood test, x-ray scan and took me only one tetanus vaccination because you have to have your vacsination history from your family doctor in writing. In other way they took you mo... read complete review

The visa interview was scheduled for Feb 12th at 2pm and my fiancee and I arrived 30min earlier. There was a slight issue because they didn't let my fiancee (the petitioner) enter the embassy and have the interview together.
I got thru security check and headed to the main building where it was already very crowded. Luckily they asked if there were any people waiting for immigrant visas and if so to proceed to certain window. I paid the fee of $240 and then was told to go to room #1. I was interviewed by a Bulgarian woman who asked several questions:

How we met;
How many times we've seen each other in person;
When we met in person;
For how long she stayed in Bulgaria;
If any of us have had previous marriages;
When did we find we can file for K-1 visa (since we are a same-sex couple);
Have I ever visited US, when and for how long;
Have I ever been denied a US visa;
Where does my fiancee work;
What... read complete review

Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

The whole process went pretty smoothly except that the local personnel who do the preliminary interview are not well versed in any thing other than the standard questions. The Bulgarian pre-interviewer could not understand how Petitioner could not have filed a 2012 IRS tax return, This had been completely explained in the I-864 cover letter and accepted by the NVC without a checklist. Of course the poor guy had no concept of what constitutes "taxable" income and "non-taxable" income...but he should have admitted that he had no idea of what he was talking about instead of acting like God and demanding explanations. Finally the American CO had no problem with that part, only asked routine stuff like what do you and husband have in common, where will you celebrate your anniversary, etc. Got approved no problem, spent about 3 hours there all totaled, but a little upset that some ignorant BG national should be questioning on a point which he has absolutely no expertise.
