The interview was a breeze and over before both of us knew it. We both had been preparing 7 months for it and were quite anxious but the actual day was exciting and relieving. We arrived between 6:45-6:50 am. The line was already long but it continued to grow after us. The line seems huge at first. This is because all the people there for tourist visas are lumped together with the K1 applicants. Between 7-7:10am they began separating the visas. They check your 2 photo IDs to make sure they are correct and ears are showing (if they are not they will send you to retake them) and give you a number for your interview. The K-1 folks were ushered to the 2nd floor ahead of everyone else. There you are seated and instructed on how to fill out a few forms and make sure all your paperwork is in order. When you are done you wait some more to be called into a room with a window for further checking of documents. They take the documents so the consular can look them over and consider them before qu... read complete review

I don't need to repeat what others have written. My Fiancee had the same nice treatment/experience as others who have been through the Rio interview. I was unable to join her due to work schedule. The one question they asked her, why did you overstay your visit in New York, and she answered "to be with me sweatheart" (me) And she said the interviewer laughed. No problems, lasted about ten minutes. She was rushing to get on the plane back to her home. So I did not get any more info. Good luck to everyone. And it is important to update your profile even after you get approved, so others can see what to expect. I see many people stop posting at interview day. Take a moment to help others by posting !!

Super easy interview!
I arrived at the consulate at 6h30 am, I was scheduled to 7h15. Around 7h00 am, a employee started to check the names of the people who were standing on the line and, and this person checked our details appointment and our visa photos. I was so ugly on mine, I did a poney tale so it was possible to see my ears! The girls said my visa photos were perfect, so beauty doesnt really matter!! Be sure to show your ears, or you will have to take another picture, as it happened to many people on the line that had their photos rejected. Ah, do not wear earring when you take the picture, it is not allowed!
After checking that, I entered at the consulate, and was directed to the second floor. There, the same girl who checked my photos, gave me a form where I was supposed to fill out with the information about my staying in Rio. I dont live in Rio de Janeiro, so they needed the information of the hotel I stayed abd things like that. With that form, she al... read complete review

My advice for you all is: stay calm! I know we get nervous and everything but this final lap is really smooth! We got at the US embassy around 5:30, first ones in line and most people started arriving at 6:00, at 7:15 a lady came outside and checked our names and pictures (make sure you show both ears and no piercings including big earrings). After a while the guard told us to go inside and we were told to go upstairs, there the same laid who checked the pictures outside handled us a paper to fill with your personal information and your fiance's information and a list with the order the documents should be placed and handled back to her (one hint: wait to sign the forms there because some you may sign in front of the consul), so after checking the paperwork order we waited like 15 min till they called us in a room where another lady checked all the forms and the info on it, then we were told to wait for the consul to call us and this is what took the longest...it doesn't matter if you ... read complete review

First of all I wanted to tell u about the hotel. I stayed at Aeroporto Othon Hotel, its 2 blocks away from the consulate. I recommend it very much, liked the hospitality, the services, the food and all. There are taxis everywhere around. The only bad part is the neighborhood which is not the best, but as long as u pay attention on where u going and hold ur stuff tight on u, everything will be ok.
I got at the consulate by 6:40am and there were some people waiting in the line already. The immigrant visas line up in the back of the consulate on Rua Santa Luzia and the tourists line up on the side at Rua Mexico. Make sure to be in the right line. Also make sure to NOT bring large bags, cell phone or electronic devices, cuz they are not allowed in. If somehow you forget, there are some people offering to lock your stuff somewhere, but I personally wouldn’t recommend. By 7am a lady came out and had the names of the immigrant visa applicants. She asked to see the photos and then che... read complete review
