We arrived at the Rio de Janeiro Consulate at 5:30am and we were the first people that arrived. Sitting in the dark, but we are nerds, so we showed up super early.
At 7am, one guy came out to give us a paper and told us to enter, then he explained that we need to fill out some papers and put all the documents in the proper order.
We were called at 8am to delivery the papers and pay the fee. At 9am, we were called by the consulate worker for the official interview, a very friendly American woman.
Our interview was short and sweet. 11 months of waiting for what amounted to less than five minutes.
She asked the following questions:
How did you both meet?
Have you been in the US before?
Was your visa ever denied, and if so, why?
When you will marry?
She ended it by saying: seu visto foi aprovado!
Congratulations....visa approved!
Yeahhhh!!!!!

So my Brazilian fiance showed up to Dr. Duarte's office a bit late Monday morning because he said it was a bit tricky to find. He rushed to get the rest of the blood work done etc to get back in time to pick up the signed medical exam. On his way back to the office the secretary called to let him know that she had forgotten to have Dr. Duarte sign the form so he would need to go to another city to track him down to get the signature. After hours of traffic he got the signature and was ready for the interview the next day.
He got to the consulate around 6 am and must have had his interview about 10 am. He said the woman doing the interview was very very kind. She asked:
-Where did the two of you meet? (We had met on a mission)
-Have you ever been to the US? (no but she's come here)
-Does she already have her wedding dress? (yes)
-What does it look like? ( he went on to describe my wedding dress drama)
She then sai... read complete review

This consulate is the most incompetent organization on the planet. Unfortunately, they have been affected/influenced by the other incompetent governing bodies of Brazil that also do not function properly.
Not only did they lose my joint-sponsor's tax transcripts but they gave conflicting requests and provided misleading information. In addition, they only notified us of our case's issues in the interview when they could have notified us a month in advance before the interview. Lastly, they provided a document in the interview listing the missing documents of our case, but when I sent them the requested documents they responded with another request via email requesting something different than what was requested during the interview.
You can't call them. If you do call and try and ask for someone that can help you, they actually hang up on you. Let me repeat, they actually hang up on you.
That the heck is wrong with this consulate?
