Review Topic: K1 Visa

My K1 visa interview was on November 8th 2016. It was scheduled for 8:20am, I arrived there at 7:20. We had two documents trial before the consul called me. I was asked: where do I work, if I speak English (yes, so the interview was in English), where did my fiance and I met, in which year, where does he live now (since he was on a military duty overseas at the time), if I have ever been in the USA and when and for how long. She cancelled my tourist visa and said my visa was approved, that I would get it in 10 days or 2 weeks. I left the consulate at 9:45am and my passport was ready on November 17th.

We, like all of you, were very nervous before the interview. We were prepared for anything and everything. We were particularly concerned about our proof of relationship. In our application we sent a three page story with photos rather than tons of IMs, photos, tickets, etc. We were worried that they would ask for more proof and so came prepared (and in the end they didn´t ask for it.)

We arrived in Rio the night before and stayed at a hotel close to the embassy. The next morning we ate breakfast and walked over to the embassy. We were an hour early but it didn't matter, they took us right in. Make sure that you go to the correct gate (not the "general" gate). You won't miss it and they will direct you to the correct one if you do go to the wrong one.

We passed through security. Remember, no phones! There are people outside (clearly identified) ready to hold your phone for you if you need to bring with you. We left ours at the hotel. I was stopped a... read complete review

The process is really simple. When you arrive, ask the officials outside and they will point out the correct entrance. Don't wait in the regular line. I arrived an hour before my scheduled time and was allowed in. Everything is divided in 3 steps:
1st: The famous Alex will give you a list of documents and the right order to put them. do that, then he will call your name and tell you to go to another line. he will check your documents and give them back to you.

2nd: someone else will call you in order of arrival to actually give all documents for processing. the consul (maybe its just a general worker, im not sure) will check spelling on name, ask if you've ever been to the US, about your previous visas and such. really simple answers. After that, he will tell you to wait in another line. that will be the actual interview line.

3rd: american consul will call you by name. There were two locations assigned for interviews when i went (oct 25th). your n... read complete review

The experience at Consulate was pretty positive. When we arrived at place, we had to find the specific line for K1-visa and someone there will take you into the interview room. There was Alex who gave us a page for us to fill out with personal information (info's about applicant and petitioner - address, e-mail, phone number) and the other page, is a checklist with the documents that you have selected for the first part of interview - Yes, the 1st part, they will check your documents and if is all ok, you can do the interview. If not, they will give you some time to provide what they requested. The 2nd part, they'll call for your name and you'll talk with the consulate employee who will inquire about the relationship. If your documents are ok and the consul feels satisfied about your answers, you will be approved. They said that the passport will arrive at our addresses around 2 weeks.
