Well today was my big day and I have just arrived home from Sydney. I want to give a review in the hope it will help others, just as others' reviews helped me so very much.
Accommodation:
I read many people suggesting accommodation at Phillip St. Travelodge. I looked at the site and was not too impressed with the pictures so I looked around and happened upon Medina Classic Martin Place. It was cheaper this night ($165 total) and about 3-4 minutes walk to the MLC building. I arrived last night and walked into my room - I thought there had been a mistake. I expected a very basic studio room but what I got was a full 1 bedroom apartment. Complete with balcony, lounge room, full-sized kitchen, bedroom and of course bathroom. I was soooo impressed. I would highly recommend this establishment. The lady at the desk happily stored by bags post check out and she even printed me off about 12 pages from an email I needed to take to the consulate (free of charge, too). ... read complete review

Was possibly the hardest office I've had to get into in Sydney, but definitely worth it! I had to go through security, was then buzzed up to the actual floor the consulate is on. Fast elevator! Had to walk halfway around the building to get to all these places.
Got to a window, friendly American asked me for my passport, then buzzed me through. Caution, heavy door! I took a number from the machine as I walked in, sat down for maybe 5 minutes and then got called to a window. Lady had to sort out my paperwork, all was good. Then sat down for maybe 10 minutes, called to second window for interview. VERY friendly guy there, he had everything we had sent in right in front of him (big red APPROVED stamp on it!). Asked me a couple of questions, how we had met (he found our story really sweet!, asked if I had more recent photos which I did as my SO had visited since we last sent our proof in. And that was it, I was told that I had been approved and to expect my passport back in... read complete review

So just adding my review
Basically I got there about 15 minutes earlier. The security were busy and I got held up cause 1 of the cards I had, had a recordable message in it and they couldn't work out what it was that kept setting off the scanner. Anyway managed to get up to level 59, waited for 3 mins before they called my number up to go through my documents. They lady was really nice, they took finger prints and went through a few more items and then asked me to take a seat till I would have my interview with the Consulate officer.
I waited around 5 mins before I was called up, i was surprised it was just in the open behind the glass, i pictured it to be in a office at a desk and private. Anyway got asked the following questions:
Have I been to the US?
Have I had any drama with the police?
When did I go last?
When did we first start talking?
So if it was online, what website?
When did you first meet?
Does ... read complete review

First.... TAKE AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE INTO THE BUILDING IN TERMS OF ELECTRONICS, NO METAL BELTS, ETC. THIS ONLY HOLDS UP THE QUEUE. 2ND.. everyone who has said the door to get into the waiting room for the visa interview IS heavy... no lie... and don't think, oh, right I'm a strong person... My fiance is strong and he said "VJ members weren't kidding..it nearly pulled my arm from my socket trying to pull it".
My fiance said the people at the consulate are wonderful, nice and reassuring. They treat you with respect, they let you correct yourself, they understand you are nervous, they aren't on a witch hunt or interrogration (much nicer than the Melbourne Consulate people!)
The interview, more than likely because its our 3rd marriage, was tough! The Consulate officer (a lady) asked him questions about me from birth to current. She flipped through the entire packet asking questions. There were a few boxes we didn't tick like what was my fiance's maiden nam... read complete review

we got denied due to a criminal act when he was juvenile (over 10 years ago). It most likely isn't sydney immigration's fault. but, it made for a pretty bad experience.
