Review Topic: K1 Visa

My interview was 24 Sept & scheduled for 10:30am - I arrived at the Sydney consulate at 10am, went through security (who were absolutely lovely, by the way - I was expecting a lot of intimidation, but was pleasantly surprised) which took less than 5 minutes.

I was then taken up to the correct level where I was asked for ID & checked off a list of names before being buzzed into the room. I then had to take a ticket for my visa type and take a seat. It was pretty busy (that's my only complaint about the whole interview process - my interviewer actually apologised to me and admitted they were very behind that day).

After an hour of sitting, my number was finally called and I went to a window where my prints were electronically taken (again! How many times do they need it for this whole process!?!). The lady behind the window wasn't very friendly but she wasn't unfriendly either - so pretty neutral, I suppose! She went through all my docs, asked me for anyth... read complete review

5 star service from Sydney Embassy.

Just wanted to post that I had a tremendous friendly professional experience with the embassy here in Sydney.

I had my interview today at 8 am and I left the building APPROVED at 8.45 am !!

They accommodated a request of mine to bring forward my interview by a week. They emailed replies within minutes and just made the whole experience a pleasure to deal with.

Couldnt ask for more.

The Friday before the interview, I received an email from the Sydney consulate asking me to bring to the interview a certificate of name change. I started panicking as I have never changed my name and the request came in a few days before the interview. I was born in Quebec and the naming tradition at the time I was baptized was to give three given names, 1st given name - Mary for girls, Joseph for boys, 2nd given name - name of a relative and 3rd given name is the usual given name that we use in everyday life. Only our usual given name is listed on government documents such as passport, driver's license, etc. so they thought I had changed my name as only one of the three names on my birth certificate was mentioned on my passport.

I went to the interview as planned last Tuesday. I waited for about 20 minutes before being called by the first officer. I gave her all the paperwork and explained I had brought all the requested documents except the certificate of name change... read complete review

I won't add a lot, because I think most of it's been said before. We were quite early for my husband's appointment, but were taken in straightaway. I worried they wouldn't let my son and me accompany my husband past reception, but luckily they did. He was called to the first window very quickly and spent quite a while going through the documents with the first officer. Then we had to wait for about 45 minutes to be called up to the next window.

There the officer asked the standard questions: has my husband ever been arrested or had immigration trouble in the US, has he lived anywhere outside Oz for longer than a year, how many times has he been to the US and what was the longest visit, how did we meet, have we ever been married before, how long have I lived in Oz, etc. She asked a few questions about money and my tax returns, what my husband would be doing for work in the US and how much we've saved. Then she asked a bit about the joint sponsor (my dad) and said everyth... read complete review

Day of the interview scheduled at 10:30 I arrived at 10:00 am and went through clearance. They kept all electronics etc as expected. Took all copies of paperwork with me, great file of it!! Was called to the counter where initial processing was done and then waited for the interview itself. Whole process took 1.5 hours. The interview was fine, asked questions about how we first met how many times we have met since, some family based questions, how many times I have been to the US and if any of those times were over 90 days, She looked through the papers (which had the big red APPROVED stamp on the first page..yay!) then said that there was one document missing....ahhhhhh!!! she asked me to just scan and email it. The paper she gave me was worded a bit horribly but she assured me everything was fine once that document was sighted. So left a bit confused. The document was received by them within an hour and then they emailed my fiancé (he had to send it) and said the visa was now b... read complete review
