Firstly I will say that the reviews of the Sydney consulate on this website were very helpful.
I went to the interview with my fiancee, as she is currently living in Australia with me. Word of warning: don't drive there if you can help it. We paid $60 for 2 hours of parking.
We entered the shopping area below the consulate and since we did some research we knew we had to go to an upper level and then go to level 10. We brought nothing with us except our paperwork and a bottle of water. You go in to the consulate and check your name off a list. There is a conveyor belt to check your stuff and you go through a security checkpoint. At the other end of the checkpoint you sit in a little area and wait for a security guard to take you to the elevator up to the proper level.
When we got to the level there's another security gate and you need to check off your name again. When you are buzzed through the big doors you need to get a ticket - we were told to get a ticket a... read complete review

I had my final visa interview in Sydney and it went well - only took about an hour all up and I've been approved. Here's how it played out for those who are preparing for theirs:
My appointment time was 8.30am but I showed up at 8am since I was in the city already. I went up to Level 10 (reception) where you need to go through security.
Security is similar to at an airport - you put your bag/s through a scanner and go through a metal detector yourself. You can't take any electronic devices, USB sticks or even CDs with you... in my case the clinic that did my medical included a CD with my chest x-rays and as a result I wasn't allowed to take the envelope up to the interview. More on that later.
I took all the docs requested in the interview letter as well as copies of the forms I'd submitted previously, just in case I needed to refer to any of those. I should have taken a book or magazine because in the interview room there are only women's... read complete review

Only a few questions asked:
1. How did you meet?
2. What will you do for work?
3. If your Plan A for work fails, do you have a Plan B?
4. Where is your fiance going to school?
5. Do you have a date set for the wedding?
Thanks for the organised package! Approved!
(Helps to have your fiancee with you at the interview as well)

I had good experience with us consulate in sydney for my k1 visa .they ask me so many questions about my relationship with my fiance, also about my fiance,s work and how offen we communicate.i thought CO was happy with my answers but end of the interview he gave me 221(g) asking for additional documents .i sent them my origional birth certificate which they requested the time my interview .so i checked with austraian post they said my documents has been delieverd to the us consulate.
Does anyone have idea how long it takes in sydney embassy to make a decision for this visa?they kept my passport and my status is AP now since 15 july
Its so annoying ..

My interview was scheduled for 10am, and I arrived about 9.45am, I entered the MLC center lobby and went up to level 10 via the lift.
The U.S. consulate reception is around a corner from the lifts on level 10, upon entering it wasn't busy but there were many security guards they're all friendly!
I handed over my bag and coat, they placed my chest x-ray cd in my bag (it was not needed at the interview at all) I was instructed to wait for a lady to let me into the lift, she told me to get off at level 59.
When I got to level 59 the lady asked for my passport to check my name off a list and buzzed me in, had to pull open that big heavy door!
I was surprised to see that the interviewing area is much like a bank teller with thick heavy glass and intercoms, you stand up speaking to the consulate officer while they type on their computers.
I took a number from the ticket machine and sat down, my number was called about 10 minu... read complete review
