  1. The "timeline" is something that is frequently requested on a blue slip issued at the end of the interview, but most VJ members with SO's in Vietnam know about it, and many like to have it ready so they can either try to submit it at the interview, or at least be able to submit it quickly if it's requested on a blue slip. Some people even frontload their petition with the timeline.

Anyway, the blue slip request reads like this:

    PETITIONER:
In a sworn, notarized statement, please provide a detailed chronology (timeline) of your relationship. Please explain clearly when and how you first met, how you were introduced and when you began corresponding with each other, when you felt your relationship became serious, date and circumstance of marriage proposal (location, time, place, situation, setting, etc...). Did spouse/fiance(e) propose in person or by phone? Where were you when s/he proposed (give exact location)? Did you accept immediately or ask for time to think about it? If s/he did not officially propose, when did you first discuss marriage? How many trips did you make to Vietnam to visit your spouse/fiance(e)? How many times have you seen him/her in total? How long did you stay each visit? Please give as many details as possible.

Thanks for all the replies. But you, sir, I vote best answer! Thanks

  2. Anyone here have any experience with emailing the consulate in Saigon? How long does it usually takes for them to answer an email? It's been over a week and I still haven't got an answer from them? I know that they say don't send the same email twice or it will take longer, but I'm about to do it again because it's like two weeks now. Any one have any ideas, please let me know. Thanks

  3. That's is true guys. I was planning to help her do the paper work, but she freaked out a little bit after hearing those services from people. I am pretty sure that the package they'll sent her will have all the directions. We pretty much haven't received the package yet, but most of the documents are already done. I asked her to contact the consulate and ask if they have received the petition yet and the VN staff kept telling her they can't do it on the phone, she has to do it in person, go to this website, and then hung up. Each of those answers is in separate calls. Overall, very rude and unprofessional. If the VN staffs are going to give her problems at the interview I'm going to write some letters. Anyways, thanks for the replies, guys!

  4. When most people are denied at the consulate in HCMC it is NOT because their paperwork wasn't in perfect order. It's because the consulate didn't believe their relationship was legitimate. If you don't have a compelling case to begin with then no document preparation service is going to overcome that for you.

That said, I've heard a few horror stories about doc prep services completely screwing up the paperwork. I've also heard that some of them are very good. I don't know which are the good ones and which ones suck. We used Mr. Nam for interview prep sessions, and the doc prep was part of his service. As far as I can tell, he and his staff prepared the forms and assembled the documents correctly. The only thing I would suggest is to carefully review everything they put together and look for mistakes, and make sure they correct them.

Great advice, Jim. I am not worrying much about the documents. The only part I worry much about is the Vietnamese part of the paperwork, which they want them a certain way. But since I am not there when my fiance goes for her interview I must help prepare it well. I am not worry with the US CO as much as the Vietnamese staff working with them (no offense, but a lot of them are very corrupted and only money will get things going smoothly). Believe me when I say that.

  5. I don't know how good this is, but supposedly there are all kinds of services near the HCMC Consulate that help beneficiaries put the packages together before the interview. From what I heard a lot of them are using this because the Consulate there is so demanding that certain information has to be EXACT! Have anyone here ever heard of these service or even used it?

  6. don't send it all at once, you wil be taxed, any amount over ten thousand,so send two payments 9,99.000-and--five thousand one hunderd.

This is 100% false. You need to declare anything over 10K on your 6059B (Customs form of declaration). Even if it's 1dollar over, you'd still need to declare it. There is no tax on it! If you don't once they find, you gonna have problems!

  7. Hallo,

My I-129F petion was approved on 2/7/11. I just happen to call nvc today to see if my case # for the hcmc consulate has been assigned. They say that the petitioner (my name) name is not correct on file. I told them my name again and they say there is a different name on their file for the petitioner name and therefore, they cannot tell me what the HCM case # is. They also cannot change the petitioner name because the case has already been forwarded to the HCMC consulate. I am worried because I don't know how to change the name to the correct name, which is my name. What can I do :help:

U should have notified USCIS that anything that needed to be changed on the petition asap. Call them or NVC

  8. hello all..i'm a newbie at this. i'm currently filing for i-129f fiance visa. i recently got my noa2 on feb 4th. now waiting for the letter. i'm a little confuse with the process and have a few questions

    1. when will you know that the USCIS tranferred your case to NVC?

2.i'm trying to get ready for the next step. i was wondering for the photos, is there a certain ways that the vietnam consulate wants them? can i do a photo book? an 8 x10 photo book? thanks in advance

It only takes me a few days for NVC to get it. But call them in one week after it was sent to check it up. It really all depends on who is doing it and how fast he is doing it. You can call the NVC or DOS. As with the photos, the more the better, but they don't want them in a photo book. Only loose photos but organize them in chronological order. For example, before and after the engagement. All this information is in www.state.gov

  9. 3 months from NOA2 to interview at HCMC? I am calling shenanigans here...

Once the NOA2 is issued the case needs to get through NVC. This can take days or over a month depending on the case. From there The case is sent to HCMC and a few week later the Pkt 3 is sent to the benficiary. Once the Pkt response is sent to the consulate it will take close to 4 months or more to get the interview.

After a month or so, call DoS and check on the status of the case. They will tell you if pkt 3 has been sent out.. after you respond to pkt 3 call them again after some time to see if the interview has been scheduled. You should already be reading through the VN regional and getting insight into what to expect at the HCMC interview. Get the needed documentation in order early... she needs to be VERY FAMILIAR with every aspect of you, your family, your job, where you live and your relationship.

Thanks guys for replying. Anyways, I just called NVC and they said that my case was physically and electronically forwarded to the consulate in Saigon. From here on however long it takes would be up to the consulate. Wish me luck. :)

  10. I got the electronic approval for the petition on 2nd and today i got the hard copy. I was hoping it would say that they forwarded the petition to NVC and then in turn after their processing it would go to the consulate...

My NOA2 says it has forwarded the petition to consulate!!! Then i called the NVC just now and they said it is too early and they may have forwarded the petition directly to consulate but still they will get a copy of it. I got the NOA2 approval by contacting my senator and finally VSC agreed to expedite the processing on an expedited basis as it was outside their normal processing.

Could this be the reason my petition is by passing NVC or is this how VSC usually send their NOA2 out without mentioning the NVC?

Can you guys rememeber what it says exactly on your NOA2?

    Thank you.

I have the same notice you have. Did you get a clear answer yet?

  11. Congratulations! :)

Cool story, too. What else did your relative tell you? Any other predictions?

Ha ha. He is not that creepy type with the crystal ball or the skulls. He was just a really articulate and wise old man. I was really impressed with how he remember all our birth dates and ages exactly as they were. He was a nice guy that we had a good conversation with. He didn't sit there and made predictions all day and go crazy like some psychics are :). That was the only "prediction" he made.

  12. "So I guess the fortune teller's right..."

I don't believe in superstitions or psychics, but this is a true story. Months ago when I was traveling to Vietnam for an engagement party I met a relative for the first time in my life. Visiting him for the first time in my life he already knew who I was, the year I was born, the year my parents and siblings were born, and their ages! Very impressive for a veteran that is in his 70s, and with a serious head injuries during the VN War that is still affecting him to this day. The man's beard and hair was as white as Santa Clause, but his mind is as sharp as any person in his/her prime. The old man said a lot of impressive things while chatting with my parents and I. He then grasped my hand, smiled, and said "there is good news coming beginning at this new year." "This year" meaning the leap year calendar. February 3rd is the new year. The old man said this a little over four months ago. I had no clue what that could be, but its doesn't matter. Today, I woke up from a nap and got a text from USCIS that stated my I-129F Petition has been approved. Coincidence or pure luck? It doesn't matter. Good news are welcomed. :)
