  1. So the question is: Should I take the risk for the $$$ or just stay put where I'm comfortable?

It depends. Do you need to make more money?

Personally, I rather be comfortable than rich. I rather continue with my current work load making the same amount than go somewhere & get $10k more, with tons more work. But a lot of people rather work more and get more money. It's in what you prefer, of course, and what you can afford.

I don't think I could EVER say no to that. It's not about the more work rather than the career path. I've always been so career oriented. My friend, who I'm the matron of honor for her wedding, says that the only things she see me work so hard in are Work and School (she went to college with me). Even my husband says I put 100% in work..and 85% in other stuff. I can't help it. It's something I'm working on. Problem has been identifed and accepted.

The reason why this is a tussle in my head is I don't really see a clear career where I am. I'm sooo comfortable that I might not ever want to leave but have to wait on that Director position. I didn't pay all this money for school to be in the same junior position for 25 years. Not what I had in mind. Not sure what God's plan is, though.

I think your quote answers your own question: Even my husband says I put 100% in work..and 85% in other stuff. I can't help it. It's something I'm working on.

Stay where you're at. Just because you don't take this opportunity doesn't mean you will stay where you are forever. There will be other opportunities.

  2. Hi again everyone, I'm back again for another question - so the girl I asked about last time figured her stuff out and got her intreview. Her Jamaican went to his interview and they actually told him to come back with her?!

Has anyone ever heard of this? I didn't know they could demand you go to the interview.

Just curious - her job won't give her any vacation time so she's not able to go. So I wanted to get your opinion - do you think if he shows back up with a letter from her employer saying she could not be granted any time off that would help them at all???

It couldn't hurt. But, if they requested she show, they want her to show. My advice is for her to call in sick a few days and make that interview.

this exact thing happened to me and you are right jg..

Finesse did you try the letter from work, or did you just follow the blue slip as requested? I wonder why some couples have to be there and others don't. Did your husband say or do something @ the first interview that made them think they needed more info or proof from you? Just curious...

i got a letter from work and hubby went back for the interview and they told him the same thing...that my presence was required. there is nothing odd about our relationship...we are the same age and had been dating for years and I had been to JA a million times....so the only thing that I can think of was that my husband was really nervous and he is an extremely shy (or should I say WAS) person so maybe they thought he didn't really know me....i really have no idea. and then when i went for the interview, they asked me like 2 stupid questions and him 2 questions and that was it. others have no problem whatsoever...

Thanks a million everyone. I'll let this girl know. She's really a friend of a friend.... I want to smack her upside the head though. Why would she risk this? I don't get it? Anyway, thanks again!

  7. Awww thanks (L) ... I've been trying to get a new picture up... I'll try again in a post

Hi All! It has been a long time since I posted on here and a long time since I got my K1 - but I know someone going through the process now and she needs some help.

So she talked to the NVC in March and they said her case was sent to Kingston on Feb. 16th. She has heard nothing since then. Is this normal? What is the process now after it leaves the NVC?

I would really appreciate any help

Hey Sbys :luv: Elias is too cute.

  8. SBys - she probably needs to try to contact the embassy. They should've received some type of correspondence from the embassy by now.

She's emailed but got no response. But she also says she didn't get a KNG # ... I have her rechecking for that.

She needs to call the DOS # they will have all the information there that the Embassy has. 202-663-1225...tell her to press 1 and then 0 and tell her to have her Kingston case number ready. Did she ever send in or drop off at the Embassy the DS230? If she hasn't that is the next step she needs to do.

Thanks so much... hopefully she will find her case number and I'll have her try this number. I just sent her the DS230 so I'll tell her to drop that off too.

Does anyone have a Verizon home phone?? I heard from someone that for 19.99 a month you can get 500 minutes. I'm not sure if that is true but worth checking it out.

I had Vonayge before and I hated them. My call always got dropped and the reception was the worst. I dropped them like hot pancakes...

By the way... Comcast has worldwide minutes that include JA for $14.95/month you get 300 minutes - but they are only to landlines.

I don't think I even know anyone in JA with a landline phone...

    Ha! So true...

Yes, sorry - she filed K1

  12. Hi Everyone! It has been a long time since I've been on.

Hi to everyone that has joined since I've been on last... Congrats to all those with progress... and congrats on your new job Michele!

Things are going well on my end. Elias is growing so fast - he is so much fun. We're feeling like a real family now :luv:

I finally got off my lazy butt and posted some new pictures of Elias and some of our wedding pics from our November wedding in Negril... they are all up on the Yahoo site. Sorry it took me so long and sorry I haven't been on lately. Elias really keeps me busy and when I can get on, my computer is horribly slow.

Anyway... I miss you all. Hope everyone is doing well (L)

  13. Well they sent Dwains dad home last night and I don't understand why they did because he wasn't doing any better. We think they sent him home to die. This morning my hubbys dad did pass away. :crying:(F)

    I'm so sorry Jax (L)

I know its late and all but Julie...wow what an absolutely wonderful baby boy  If we can all only be so lucky.

Thanks so much Jamie :luv: Its great to see you on the board again, we've missed you! You've had a lot going on lately - how is school going??

Have a Happy Thursday and remember...Greys Anatomy starts the new season TONIGHT!!!! That is one of my shows!!!!!

I've never watched it before but I heard it was the best - think I can start up in the 3rd season or shoudl I go back and catch up on the first two?

Jamie I miss you soooooo much!!! Your positive energy is something that I personally miss..... :energetic:

    Definitely :yes::yes:

  14. Speaking from experience...you have to be willing to let them lead and be in control as much as possible, even when you know the "right" answer

OMG - this is SO true and I struggle with it, I really like to be right :P

    OCTOBER 27TH........... :yes::yes:

Just got an e-mail response asking if an interview date has been set.

And last week they told me early November.

Hopefully I can use my miles to go down as I am already leaving on the 10th of November for 12 days.

    :dance::dance: YAY!!! Congratulations!!

  15. Hi,Sybs I see you there,

How is the baby ( he is sooo cute) ?

How is mommy life treating you?

We're wonderful :luv: And I'm loving being a mommy. I just realized the other day that my life is TOTALLY different and I love it. Wouldn't change a thing :D ....well, maybe that I have to go back to work but nothing else

you have been blessed with a beautiful family.

    I really have :luv:

I know how hard addiction is (mine is certain foods). I have lost 15 pounds on this plan that I am on and on some days I would give up my healthy lunch for a cadbury bar and some smarties...but I know I want to be healthy. I wish I could give Mike a hug and tell him I am proud of him.

Congrats on losing 15 pounds, that's a huge accomplishment! What is the plan you're on? ...and I'll tell Michael for you and give him a lil' hug ;) I've got to get him something for when he hits 1 year... anyone have any ideas??

--Can't leave the sliding glass door WIDE open when the air conditioning is on.

--Can't leave every flippin light and TV on in the house...especially here in Maryland when our electric bill just went up

We don't exactly have these problems, but kind of a mix. Michael wanted to leave the air conditioning on when it was 50 or 60 degrees outside. He said he wanted to keep it a "steady" temp and get Elias ready for winter slowly :lol: He's so darned cute sometimes

    Isn't Elias just the cutest?!?!?

    Absolutely the cutest !!!!!!!!

Awww... you guys are so sweet

Kelly -- We haven't had any of "your' issues.....but.....Roy has gotten pulled over TWICE by our wonderful, local Police.....talk about Racial Profiling......when he is bored he rides around the neighborhood on his bike...guess the cops don't like that too much. At the rate he is going.....he will be pulled over by ALL the cops in our town by the time the month is over.

He was "pulled over" on his bike???! Nice.

Ditto. Tell Michael to keep up the good work :luv: That is great.

    I'll tell him... thanks (L)

    Okay...AOS/EAD officially mailed...we are on to STEP 2... :dance::dance::thumbs::thumbs: I am afraid to say......the waiting begins...once again

Okay....now to the topic at hand......drinking!!!

    NEW TOPIC.......

So most ALL of you told me that our relationship in Jamaica was going to be a totally different relationship in America....Before he got here.....I thought...yeah whatever....we are soo close and I know him sooooo well so our relationship will be NO DIFFERENT.... BULLSHIZNIT...........Boy was I WRONG.....the whole dynamics is different........not that our relationship is worst but just VERY different.........when the real world hits you, the whole vibe is different...plus.... in Jamaica...he was in control for the most part and now I am in control...this is very different and very hard on a man.....How did you get over this? How long did it take for the adjustment? What advice would you give to some of us that are just now going through this and for those that will soon learn what I am talking about........

Congrats on sending off AOS/EAD. Putting it together is the hardest part, its smooth sailing from here

And for the new topic - Michael has been here almost a year and I'm just noticing that he's starting to take control of more things. When he got here it was all me, but as he gets more comfortable with American life he takes on more responsibility... it helps him feel more like a man. In time, they start gaining back the self-esteem that was lost in those first months when they had to sit home and do nothing. You just have to be patient, it really does take a long time.

So now my dad does it on purpose daily to piss these ppl off.

  16. I'm kind of new to the site and so relieved to see this thread.

Welcome to the board Ann :luv:

A couple of our WEDDING Pics are loaded on the yahoo site !!!

Dag, to even THINK about the next step....I'm dreading it. ARGH ...

    :D

They're beautiful Kelly! I LOVE the one of you guys on the bench.

Ok, I have a new topic for you guys. Actually it is more of a question. How often does your man drink? Did he drink often in Jamaica? Does he drink more or less now than he did while living there? Is it an "issue"?

Michael is a recovered alcoholic now. He hasn't had a drink since the day he got here... so he's been sober for 11 months now  He had a bit of a problem with rum, actually it was so bad that it was starting to damage his liver.

He was a completely different man when he drank so yeah, it was a HUGE issue for us. He actually quit a while before he got here, but when we started geting close to an approval on our K1 and him moving he here he kind freaked out and had a relapse. But all is back on track now and he's doing great. He goes to AA meetings every Tuesday.

  17. Hi Everyone,

Thank you for your well wishes and support. We tied the knot today (at our local park and my friend married us)...pictures to come soon. It was quiet, romantic and just the 3 of us (me, my son and Craig).

Next July we're going to have the "big one" in Negril.

    :D:D:D:D(L)

    Congrats Kelly (F)

Where in Negril are you having your July wedding?

"What is he going to be drivingg?"

:lol: Michael would be angry I even told you guys about it....but  ...he started out with "The Brownie" --yes, it was a 1989 Celebrity. Nice and rusty and BROWN! It was so pretty . And it randomly died at stop signs  He's glad to be rid of it now!

After Henry told me I waste too much time on VJ/online and called you guys weirdos  , I slammed our bedroom door 3X right off the hinge!!:blush: It's an old house, I swear. :innocent:

ROTFLOL :lol: My hubby dosen't think highly of VJ either :hehe::lol:

 Mine either - He always tries to read what I write and then tells me I shouldn't tell anyone "those" things

Okay I keep on getting bad news after bad news.

I'm so sorry Jax, you and your family will be in my prayers (L)

  18. Thanks Sonshyne (L)

    Sbys... your baby is beautiful!

Bellysgirl - I agree with all the .02 and $1 JA :lol: And I wanted to add about the forms, don't forget that there are a lot of people out there who hire lawyers to fill these papers out. I would have been lost myself without everyone on the Yardies thread and the VJ guides.

You'll get your interview date soon enough and then you'll forget all about all this waiting you did.

  19. Welcome Sonshyne :luv:
