  1. I would suggest calling in the NVC to see if they can change the DOB they have in their records. If its an easy fix ( especially bc you have proof of her passport with the CORRECT DOB, then it would be no problem. I find calling in the NVC and talking to someone is always better. Try and speak with a manager and they will usually tell you the best way to go about it is.

  2. Ok im a little worried - went throught the POE in Montreal...everything went well. Gave them the sealed envelope and the guy filled out tons of paperwork. After that he took a fingerprint and i signed something. That was it. No papers or anything, he just sent me off to my flight. Was i supposed to recieve something saying i have a green card? I have a job offer and they want me to work right away? can I not work yet???? HELPPP!!!!

Is the visa in my passport good to start working next week???

  3. Just need your passport..sealed envolope..when you get to the POE make sure you tell them you are going the K-1 route..they will know what to do..good luck.

I have a CR-1 visa - i'm already married. The consulate agent didnt really tell me anything other than how to pick up my passport back from the DHL. I guess all I really need is the sealed envelope and my passport. Thank you!!!

  4. Hey Yall,

Got my visa a couple weeks ago and plan to move tomorrow from the Montreal airport. I got my passport back and a sealed envelope from the DHL. Is there anything else I should know when at the port of entry? Do i need to bring anything else with me other than my passport and that sealed envelope?

Any documents??? What can I expect to be questioned and usually how long is the questioning?

Also**** When I check in at the airport, should I be showing the airport clerks my Canadian page in the passport or the visa page in the passport??

Soorry for all the questions! just dont wanna screw this last part up!

    thanks for any help!

  5. OMG! Any advice? tips? yes yes I read your review! thank you it helped but gosh i want to be 100%%%%% ready and prepared im so nervous haha. did they ask any stupid questions? tried to make you feel uncomfortable? anything else you can share thank you in advance :)

Dont worry about it. Its stupid but its somethng you gotta do. they have the pledge everywhere. its all bullcrap they dont even follow it. but you're good ur inlove and want to be with your partner just be relaxed, honest and calm and all will go fine :)

From my experience - they honestly were the NICEST people ever. I had watched the movie "the proposal" with sandra bullock and was scared it was kinda gonna be like that where they ask questions to trick you, and see if your lying. But it was NOT like that. The whole procedure took probably 20 minutes (not including the waiting times in the waiting room). They barely asked me any questions! Just a few basic ones, like when and how we met, and what we do for employment. The agents interviewing you really want you to succeed. They arent trying to trick you. They already have ALL your information like your NOA2 and proof of relationships and marriage. They want to go through the process just as quickly as you do. Trust me, you have NOTHING to worry about.

I was worried about my documents, but I realized afterwards, I had NOTHING to worry about. Be organized, bring everything you need and more and get ready to celebrate your approval!!!!!

    Good luck yall!!!

  6. No, we did the spousal visa, CR-1. Do you mean the financial affidavit of support, I-864? I thought you were talking about the evidence of bonafide relationship affidavits. I didn't do EP so they have all paperwork with original signatures.

Hmm, im not sure aboutthe evidence of a bonafide relationship. I wasnt asked to show any proof or pictures of my relationship at all. All they asked for were original documents like birth and marriage certificate and the financial A.O.S. stuff. They will have all your originals so just bring copies of everything! Good luck :)

    Congratulations!!!

    KnR aka slider100

    Thank you!!!

  7. Great review. I didn't fill out the DS-260 and didn't do electronic processing, so I guess they want my document copies since they have my originals. This is the one thing that is stressing me out...that I get there and something happened where the NVC didn't forward them on. Is the affidavit of support required? I have 2 that I included with my I-130, is this what they are looking for?

    Congratulations again on your approval!

I assume you did the fiance visa right? I dont know what your checklist required but i would encourage you to bring anything and everything to be safe. Bring the affadavit for sure, with the original signature on the form with tax papers. I was required to have it. So I would assume you would have to as well.

You can call the NVC to inquire what date they mailed out your package to the consulate. They usually do when you got your case complete. Im sure its sitting there at the consulate waiting for you to be APPROVED!!!! Good luck!

  8. Congrats! I told you will be easy....

haha!!!! yeah! the actual interview was a BREEZE. it was the paperwork and not knowing if I had all my ####### together! but it worked out. :) God is good!

Awesome review!!! Loved it. We go next week and i'm so nervous about the whole paper work thing. I'm an accountant and pretty organized, but this just has me all worked up..I know i'll be fine..but this is our future!! Woot!! I can't wait to go to MTL and the interview. I will write my review next week...wish us luck ya'll.

Oh gosh! if you have ANY questions...let me know! the questions they asked were so basic. Nothing intense...it was the paperwork stuff...but if u have all your stuff together..its a breeze! will be praying for you tri-gear that is all goes well and that you guys will finally be able to be together!!!!

  9. This is for ANYONE AND EVERYONE going to their interview at the Montreal Consulate. Please learn from my experience. This may be long but will be helpful!

My interview was today -February 18th at 8:30pm. I got to the consulate office around 7:00 am because I wanted to beat the line...which I didn't. There were about 10 people already there lined up, which isn't a big deal. Because I live in Montreal already, it was easy for me to just hop in my car and get there. But I suggest for everyone to arrive at LEAST an hour in advance.

From there, you are let in one by one. You must show the guard your appointment letter with you passport. Once let in, you go through a pat down like if you were in an airport. No cellphones, big bags, electronics allowed etc allowed. You are then to go downstairs to wait to be called up by letter (first come first serve basis). You are then escorted to the main area for your interview by elevator with a security guard - who was not very nice by the way. They try to intimidate you but dont be! You then are called by your given letter to a window to present all your original documents. They will ask you for your original birth certificate w/ copy, marriage w/ copy, police cert. w/ copy, 2 pictures, passport, medical exam, and affidavit of support.

** I freaked out because I thought I needed my husbands and father-in-laws ORIGINAL income tax forms, but a photocopy is good and accepted. Thank God. **

******IMPORTANT NOTE TO ALL THOSE WHO FILLED ONLINE THE DS-260********

    - This is a new concept to the consulate that has been implemented. The man behind the counter admitted that they still are not used to this new online VISA immigration form. BRING THE CONFIRMATION PAGE AND ALL THE PAGES ALONG WITH YOU.

I did not have the confirmation number with me as I was told by the NVC that the consulate would have received it since it was submitted online. NOT TRUE. Bring the conf number!!! They made me and others fill out the DS-230 page by hand. I suggest you do this at home, so you can have it ready when they ask. This was reallllly stressful, because I had no cellphone to make a call to my husband to ask for him to find this confirmation number. I was allowed to make a payphone call thank God. Found the number and gave it to the man. It all worked out finally.

After he collects all your documents, you are asked to go back to the waiting room until your name is called. Once your name is called, you are asked a few questions, but first must raise your right hand and pledge allegience to the USA and attest that you will answer honestly. This whole process took literally 5 minutes. A few basic questions like, where my husband lives, what he does for work, if I have kids, what my father-in-law does for work, where I live now, and where I work now. That was pretty much it - but this will depend case by case.

You then take one more fingerprint. If the agent finds everything to be accurate then, he then says "based on the information provided, I can approve your visa, WELCOME TO THE UNITED STATES!!" He then gives your a welcome letter. Then you need to find out about your DHL pick up for your visa and passport.

The agent I had was SOOOOO nice and funny and made me feel really relaxed despite my intense nervousness and stress about the DS-260 ordeal.

All in all, it was a good experience. Make sure you have EVERYTHING you need and more. Copies of all originals, pictures etc. Have them organized to speed up the process so you arent fishing through piles of papers. I did this all the night before and it helped me.

Good luck yall - and thank you VJers for everyones support and help with this journey! I AM NOW AN AMERICAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Most people file their tax returns electronically, so they don't have "original" tax forms. People who send an actual paper return to the IRS also wouldn't have the original because, well, it was sent to the IRS!.

In other words, nobody actually has the "original" tax forms. What they might have is the original supporting documents, like W2's or 1099's.

People who file electronically can get printed copies of the forms, either from their tax preparer or using the tax preparation software they use, but they should put their signature on the forms for the affidavit of support. Photocopies of the forms and supporting documents are fine.

Tax transcripts from the IRS are much simpler.

Gotcha. Its just the 2009 tax transcripts I have are black and white and are poorly photocopied. So i was just wondering if we needed the original tax forms from which we photocopied from. Im from canada so have no idea what a W2 or 1099 is haha.... all I know about is our T4s :) I assume thats the same thing.

  11. one of the major guidelines about EP is that anything submitted to NVC via the email thingie -

must be presented as original document on interview day.

The I-864 is easy to reproduce, ask that spouse of yers to make one nowish, get it to you.

    ---

copies of tax forms are OK.

original signatures ONLY required on the I-864 forms.

Oh thank you sooo much! I feel relieved right now!!! So basically, just reprint the I-864s online and have him fill them out and send them to me. And the tax forms can be photocopies right? im just worried they are going to want the original tax forms. thank you!!!!

  12. I don't really have an answer for you and hope you can figure it all out by the time of your interview, but I would like to point out to other members that this problem is happening because of a mistake a LAWYER made. That's why most of us choose to complete the forms and go through the process by ourselves... I checked the accuracy and completeness of my petition packet more thoroughly and carefully than any lawyer could have because I really cared about receiving an approval and not getting a RFE. To the OP, best wishes to you!

Ok, well I guess what im trying to ask is IF I need to bring the Affadavit of support forms written out in ink WITH my husbands original tax forms from the IRS - AND my father-in-laws AOS forms with HIS tax forms?

If I cant get originals will copies do??

  13. Hey everyone,

Need some help. I have my interview in montreal on Feb. 18th. As you all know, for Montreal case numbers, the way to submit all supporting documents to the NVC was through electronic processing. Well......our lawyer made the mistake to send in the Affadavit of support forms by mail. Later, when i called the NVC the lady told me that it would not be accepted and we were to resend it by email - which we did. We got our case completed.

Now, that we have our interview set up and I am getting all of my papers in order, I know I need to bring in the AOS papers with the ORIGINAL signatures - which we dont have since they were mailed in to the NVC.

Question: Does the NVC mail that package to the Consulate in montreal even if we were supposed to do it electronically? I have copies but, i dont want to be refused a visa becauase they dont have the original signatures?

    any help would be great...

one last question - for my husbands W2 and tax papers - do those need to be originals too? I would assume not sicne he needs to file those in to the IRS at some point....anyone know the answer???!!

    THANKS VJers!

  14. She is only visiting, she'll be leaving after I get moved and unpacked. I am keeping the car in the US so I'll make sure to get the compliance letter from the dealership. Thank you!

I am doing the same thing - just make sure that your car is completely paid off from the dealership. They wont give you a compliance letter if your car hasnt been paid off since they are the lean holders to your car. Im doing the same things, and i owe 4000$ on my car to the dealership. Had to take out a personal loan to pay off the dealer..such a pain in the ####! but yes, a compliance letter is all you need!

  15. Montreal Girl you should really post in the Canada section of the forums. MTL embassy uses DHL now as their courier it is the only way to get your passport back. You HAVE TO Register on this site BEFORE your interview and since its coming up soon I'd def hurry.

    Go to this site

    www.usvisa-info.com

select your country which is Canada. Click Sign in at the top and than you have to select the DHL branch closest to your home location. If you do not do this you will delay getting your visa back.

omg...im trying to follow your steps and it says i have no interview scheduled!!! WHATS GOING ON WHAT DO I DO!??

  16. Hey yall,

3 quick questions. Going for my interview on Feb 18.

    1) Do I need to bring my father-in-laws ORIGINAL tax papers (since he is co sponsoring me with my husband) or do copies suffice?

    2) Typically, how long after the day of the interview is approved do you get your passport back with the visa? I wanna leave 2 weeks after the interview day to move to Chicago.

    3) Read something about DHL courrier to deliver your passport back? WHat is this???????

any help would be great! thanks lovelies :)

  17. Im confused, every document has to be sent by email?? JF_CIC did ds260 online and mailed in his documents, that is what i did? ahh lol i hate this new procedure but will be happy if somehow speeds it up the process. I guess I will call again next friday, but daily to check the AVR lol.

    Hey Zachm611

I noticed that you are using the Montreal consulate - so yes if you have a Montreal Case number you MUST send in your documents in by electronic processing at nvcelectronic@state.gov

Call them on monday because they WILL refuse the mail you sent to them- I made the same mistake and had to send in by email.

  18. The DS-260 is really new - it changed in October of 2010... and only certain countries are eligiable to do the DS-260. Montreal is one of the lucky few cities that is eligiable for it and therefore MUST send every document in by email. Honestly - I would end up calling the NVC almost EVERYDAY asking them questions. The website is contrradictory and nobody seemed to know what was going on...so i encourage everyone before taking any actions - call the NVC to double check if you are doing the correct thing - they send RFEs for the dumbest little mistakes..

  19. Hey yall

I have my interview on Feb 18 and I assume once they approve it that day it will take another week to get back my passport so that i can physically move to the US.

Question: I am financing a car and have 1.7 years left to pay on it. I called border patrol and they said i need to get a letter from the loan department that they give me permission to move my car to the US, and that I need to fill out two forms.... he also said i would have to pay a 2.5 % on the depreciated value of my car. Seems like a hassel...and ontop of that, my canadian bank won't take my preauthorized payments for the car from a US bank....so i don't know what to do....

has anyone drove across the border with their vehicule? are there any ways to get around all of that stuff and paperwork?

  20. My lawyer did the same thing and waited around to hear from the NVC about a bunch of stuff which delayed our process by a month. Trust me, you dont have to wait for anything. As a matter of fact, im pretty sure that the petitioner or beneficiary can log on to pay the AOS AND IV bills. ONce thats paid, you can immediately fill out the visa DS-260 online, and send in your AOS documents and visa supporting documents via email. The nvc doesnt contact you the next steps and dont give you reminders to send in the next documents.

Your safest bet is to call call CALL the nvc and ask every question imagineable.....good luck yall!
