Hey guys, just a quick question. My mom's coming to visit me in April - hooray - and she is flying into Boston. I already printed, filled out and translated the questions in the 2 entry forms. I just don't know how she's gonna pass through passport control because she doesn't speak/understand any English. Any advice/own experience with your folks?
I was thinking to send her a piece of paper that she could give to the officer at passport control that says she doesn't speak english, and she's gonna stay with my husband and I. And that we are at the airport waiting for her, leave our phone numbers. What do you think?

No, K-1 visa holders cannot work before they get their EAD or Green Card - whichever comes first. You can hold off on applying for a SSN until you get married so she doesn't have to change it again - if she changes her name. Or you can wait until she gets her EAD/GC, but that makes it harder to open a bank account, put her on your health insurance and so on.

I met an Australian woman who resides in Spain. We want to meet in person. She is trying to come to the US so we can spend time together. She is trying to come over on the visa waiver program. If we decide to get married what will we need to do so that she can stay here. We want to do everything legally.
Maybe it would be a good idea to try to know each other and spend at least this first time together and then think about marriage. Just my two cents...I am on this forum daily and there are way too many people for whom it doesn't work out - and the most common reason is not spending the time to know the other person before rushing into marriage.

First of all, congrats on getting married and of course congrats on having a baby! I didn't send anything for advanced parole as I knew I wouldn't use it. So if you are sure you are not going to need it, then save yourself the extra paperwork and pick out baby clothes - or something

When you had your medical they should have given you a copy of your vaccination sheet - i think it's form DS 3025. That's what you should send with your AOS application. However, if you didn't have all your shots at the time, you will have to see a designated civil surgeon here in the States who will fill out an I-693.
You fill out your forms in your married name. Good luck!

congratulations!!

Use her new name and if her medical has been done in the past year she doesn't need i-693. i only sent my vaccination form and it was fine.

i had 3 folders, one with pictures, one with proof of relationship - emails, card, plane tickets, facebook logs, skype logs, etc., and one with all the #### they ask for at the embassy - DS forms, BC, police certificates, affidavit of support, and so on. i don't really know how to attach pics on here so email me if u have questions - i have pictures of the proof of relationship folder and the pictures folder

We received notice that our interview is January 17. She still hasn't received her EAD card, will she definitely get it before the January interview or is there a chance she will never need it because she will get her green card first? Thanks
I received my GC before the EAD

I didn't have a copy of the i-129f package either and they never asked for it
good luck!

The best thing to do is to go here and select the consulate for the Philippines, as each consulate is different

Matt, my husband - fiance at the time, checked the 'i intend' box as well. i don't remember exactly what he wrote there, but i think it was something like this: 'i will provide room, board and financial support for (name)indefinitely'

Welcome and have a smooth journey

i just printed a chat/email for every month we've been together and the interview was a breeze

I sent my documents without the checklist. I sent ds-230 part 1, a copy of my passport - personal page and 2 passport pictures. When I finally received packet 3, I saw I should have sent ds-156 and ds-156k as well. But it seemed that it wasn’t a problem, I just took those with me to the embassy. Nobody called me to tell me our petition is at the embassy or if I want to schedule an interview. So I kept calling them and the first time I called I asked if I can send packet 3 before I get it and they said yes. I don't know if the embassy in Dublin has the same requirements but I'd think they ask for the same things - I don't know what DS-2001 is for...maybe posting in the forum for Ireland would be better...Good luck!

I sent my packet 3 before I got it from the embassy - I just printed out the forms from their website

The same thing happened to me and I must say I couldn't believe it either in the beginning, but then my welcome letter came, and now I have my Green Card hehe. I don't know what happened to my EAD either, but honestly I don't even care anymore, I'm just happy that I can relax for 2 years
Congrats! Start celebrating

Yay! Just got my Green Card this afternoon so I know how you are feeling right now
Congrats!!

Congratulations!!

i only sent the ds-3025 with my AOS application and i was approved with no interview, no RFEs in less than 2 months

Hey guys, just wanted to thank you for all the help and the support! I just received my welcome letter in the mail the other day and I couldn't believe it. My I-485 was approved without an interview and it only took (almost) 2 months! Now we have 2 years of being worry free, yay

I remember the day of the interview, I was really nervous. But then I imagined myself getting off that plane and jumping in my sweetie's arms. Relax, everything's going to be just fine. Make some plans for when he gets to the U.S. Get everything organized for the interview, pictures in one folder, emails and chat logs in another, copies of all your documents in another folder and the originals in one. If you're prepared, the interview will be very easy. I was only asked a couple of questions, the interview was about 2-3 minutes long. Take a deep breath and relax, you will soon be with your fiance.

My POE was Boston and it didn't take longer than half hour for me to get through customs. 3 hours and 50 minutes is more than enough, don't worry

Hi guys, just a quick post to share my biometrics experience. It's probably the easiest thing that one has to do in the whole AOS lengthy, complicated process. However, I didn't bring our marriage certificate and obviously my passport is still in my maiden name. So it didn't match my new name, the name on the appointment letter. The guy at the entrance checking the documents wasn't too happy about that and it seemed like we weren't going to be able to do it without any (picture) ID in my new name. But the manager saw that my husband with me - and that his name was on my K1 visa so said it's ok to go in. Anyways, long story short, always bring everything you have related to your immigration process - lesson learned. Also, it didn't seem that you could do an early walk-in there like I've read about other places. That's it
POE - mom doesn't speak any english

you guys rock! I love this website! Yeah, I already told her not to bring all those things, it was tough though because my mom still thinks it's necessary to buy me kitchen towels and #### like that from over there, because she's not sure if the stuff here is as good as in Italy
)) I know she will realize how wrong that is when she gets here. Anyways, thanks again for all the helpful suggestions!
