  1. Might just be the possible shutdown at the moment. I just scheduled my interview at the beginning of the week and I keep trying to check if any earlier dates become available and it wasn't until the announcement that I could no longer find anything open at all.

  2. Just got my Packet 4 a couple of days ago and booked my interview for July 12! Woohoo! There were about 9 days open in April to book but that was just WAY too soon for us...too much to get done before we move. I was hoping for late May/early June, but July works. At least I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

One of the other people in the DCF forum couldn't see the 9 days I was talking about, anyone know why some people have certain dates available to them??

  3. Figured I would start a post!

I just got my packet 4 and I am officially scheduled for July 12! There were a lot of openings in April but that is just too soon for us. Then there was nothing between that and July so here I am! Excited :-D

  4. I have another question regarding this. Do you HAVE to send the documents to Montreal via DHL? Or does Canada Post suffice? The reason I ask is because my husband lives in a small town. It would take him about two hours to get to the closest DHL office. We would really appreciate a quick answer regarding this!

I just sent in the checklist, not the actual documents listed on that checklist as some of them I didn't even have yet, like my Medical (which states clearly not to obtain until I receive Package 4) and my appointment since I don't have that yet either. Then I sent in Part 1 signed, Part 2 unsigned, my photos and a photocopy of my passport.

As far as DHL, I'm pretty sure you have to use it. This is the only thing I found, but it's directly off of the CSC Visa info site:

I made a mistake choosing my DHL courier pickup location. I want to pick up my personal documents from a different DHL courier pickup location than the one that I originally chose. How do I change that?

You can change your DHL courier pickup location by logging into the system using the passport number, date of birth, and nationality of the applicant applying for the visa. It is very important that you use the same information used to create the account under which the appointment was booked.

Once logged in, you will be directed to an applicant summary page. Please choose Reschedule Appointment and step through the pages until you reach the Choose DHL Branch page. Make the change and click submit. Once you've done that you may log back out.

Changes to the DHL courier location pickup must be made before the cancel/reschedule deadline on your appointment confirmation page. Changes to the DHL courier location after that date and time will not result in the desired routing.

  5. How flippin' frustrating! I just tried calling Montreal but they no longer offer Live Operator assistance regarding immigrant visas. They will not answer any questions about receipt of paperwork or faxes. They direct you to use email but when I did that, they refuse to answer the same questions there too!

So, I guess I'm just at their mercy to just hope that everything is going ok :help:

  6. You are lucky they didn't make you fly to Montreal to file. In my case I had to fly 850 miles. You should call Montreal and at least find out if your case was received. Yes it sounds like you are still at the NOA1 (received, accepted)level because the embassy that you gave your paper work to does not process any I-130 applications but they were allowed to accept the application. If you visit the embassy's website in Montreal it gives a long timeline of 6 to 12 months so they must be very busy. Note that the fee is now $420. Go here for their detailed process, http://www.consular.canada.usembassy.gov/immigration_usa_relative.asp

    Good luck.

That's crazy you had to fly!!! Wow.

It's just so frustrating since I keep reading such different timelines everywhere. When we filed for my hubby to immigrate to Canada, I wasn't nearly as confused, LOL. I'm just a little worried since Canada Post totally messed up our immigration paperwork when he came this way...we paid to have tracking and they forgot to enter it!!! We had no clue where our package was until we finally got a paper back from them stating our stuff was in process. That was a crazy few months wondering if some loser got a hold of our whole lives and the possibility of identity theft or just even starting all over again!!! YIKES.

I can be patient if I have a realistic time to go by, but when they say they will notify you within 4-6 weeks of receiving your paperwork, and it's now going on 9, I get a bit worried. I tried emailing them but they refused to answer, so I guess I will have to try calling.

  7. They usually get approved that day or very soon. If they stamped it approved and signed off on your documents in front of you then it's basically approved and they are checking things out. NOA1 is notice of acceptance. NOA2 is approved. Neither take place when you file direct at your embassy that is authorized to handle these. Are you sure that you gave them your correct contact information? Visit the embassy's website online and find out their phone number and what hours/days they answer inquiries and call them. If there are many others that filed along with you then it's going to take some time. Ask them when you call about how long it's been taking them. Make sure you call the embassy that is authorized to handle immigration that is closest to you and ask if they have your case. Good luck and keep us updated :D

After we gave the lady all of our original documents in Toronto(BC, marriage license, etc), we got a piece of paper that says (I've streamlined this), "YOUR IMMIGRANT PETITION (I-130) HAS BEEN ACCEPTED - WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? and it goes on to say, I am the beneficiary....your I-130 will be sent to Montreal for further processing. DHS must check it's data base then DHS will advise Montreal within 2-3 weeks after filing if there is any objection. If no objection, the I-130 petition will be approved in Montreal to then apply for a Visa. Montreal will create a IV case file 2-3 weeks after receiving your I-130. The package you will receive will have a step-by-step process to follow. Return the DS 230 part 1 asap. Then onto photos and medical evidence. Then interview."

I have a receipt that she stapled on this piece of paper with a receipt # for the filing fee ($355) but that's it. The only thing I take from this is that we have all of our documents in order but we still aren't really approved in any shape or form, because Montreal is the one making the decision, not Toronto...all they do is just take scans of the original documents so we didn't have to mail them.

So....is this still the NOA1? I am so confused!!!

  8. The Embassy is in Ottawa.... not Montreal or Toronto as they are consulates....

DCF is a different process... really no such thing as a NOA1, but the acceptance of your petition on Nov 19 was effectively the same. I doubt your I-130 was "approved" as it needs to go through a USCIS office. The consulate cannot do it themselves anymore..

Thanks...no idea why I thought Embassy and Consulate were the same thing.

I know my I-130 wasn't approved (ha, I wish! :) )...I just meant that the embassy gave us the ok that all of our paperwork was in order and it was received by them, but not by Montreal yet...that's where I get confused as to what exactly the NOA1 is and what the difference between NOA1 and NOA2 is.

  9. Husband (USC) and I sent our I-130 to Toronto embassy on Sept. 12. We had our first appointment with them on November 19, where they "approved" our I-130, to be sent off to the Montreal embassy where we are now waiting for the official approval. So, does that mean that our first appt in Toronto was our NOA1??? Or would the package from Montreal be the NOA1?

Also, the paper they handed us that explained (barely) the next steps said we should be receiving the package from Montreal in 4-6 weeks. It is now going on 9 weeks. I know a lot of holidays fell in between. I'm trying not to think about it too much because I know it can take a while, but what is a realistic timeline at this point to be looking at? I can be patient if I kinda know what to expect, LOL

    Thanks!

  10. Quatchi,

Have you heard anything yet? My husband (USC) and I are in a similar situation. We sent the I-130 to the Toronto embassy in September...had our inital "approval" interview at the consulate on November 19. They were sending the info to Montreal and said to expect our first package with more info along with NOA1 to be completed within 4-6 weeks. We haven't heard anything yet at all either. Granted, we are hoping the holidays in there are the culprit to the processing but you never know.

I sent an email asking if it possibly got lost in transit but they won't answer any inquiries of the sort.

  11. Hi all...I have only posted once here so far but I thought you might like to add me to the time line. My husband is a USC (Permanent Resident of Canada) and I'm a Canadian citizen filing for my green card.

Sent I-130 package to Toronto Consulate: Sept. 21, 2010

    Appt for I-130 to verify doc's: Nov. 19, 2010

That's it so far, waiting on the package from Montreal now, they said it should take about 4-6 weeks.

Good luck to all applying right now!!! :D

  12. I have NO idea; however I would guess it is a similar thing to a "non-accompanying family members declaration" that I found online for those immigrating to Canada. That seems to be a notarized statement saying that you intend to go to America without your daughter, and confirming that you understand that your daughter must meet immigration requirements in her own right if she wishes to join you later.

Although now I found something on the website for the Jerusalem Consulate that uses "non-transmission" to refer to a USC not transmitting their citizenship to their child. Not sure how that would apply in your case as your daughter does not have a USC parent. Will never understand why certain Embassies have their own special terms for certain things!

Thanks, JoannaV. I will certainly look into it. I guess more info for them is better than less so I'll probably get it notarized just in case!

  13. Hi there, new here!

My husband, USC, originally immigrated to Canada but now we have decided to move back to Illinois. I have a daughter from a previous marriage that is not coming with us. We just sent our I-130 package in to the Toronto Consulate but they need a "Affidavit of Non Transmission" for her. I have done a search but do not know what this is. We emailed back asking them if it is a pre-printed form or we just make a simple statement, ALSO, whether it has to be notorized. Any ideas? Once they have this, along with her long BC form, they will make an appointment for us.

    Thanks!
