No advice, just had to say that it was totally stupid that they wouldn't accept it hand delivered
That makes no sense to me, silly consulate!
Good luck and hope this gets through very speedy!

Thank you SO much! I will try to find and read the thread on Domicile.
1) Did your hubby have a US driver's license to show at the interview? Do you think it helped?
2) Do you think I need to BRING my husband to the interview…would that help? We were not planning on paying for him to fly to Montreal from Vancouver with me…hmmm
He might just have to sign a lease early, just seems like a waste of a few months rent while we wait for my visa to be approved…sort of ridiculous. I mean we are definitely moving.
No problem, it's under the Regional Form: Canada.
1) No, he doesn't have a US DL anymore since he lives in Canada.
2) I don't think he physically has to be there...not really sure if it helped with me or not. I know that's more of an issue when you are applying for a fiance-type visa.
I'm just lucky that we live on a border state and he never gave up his job in the states, even as a permanent resident of Canada. Sounds like you have everything covered, you should be fine. Has he still filed taxes all this time? They will definitely want a 2010 Federal tax return.

I'm wondering the same thing about domicile for my USC hubby who still lives in Canada with me! We don't want to split up and have him move before me. What do we need to show
if we have no kids to register in school, no house in Canada to sell, and we are both self-employed so no job offers to get in the US?
Luv - You will need your 2 passport photos at the interview, yes
Sorry, I answered your question about domicile in your other post, but it may be likely they will ask him to move back before you. And regarding my photos, they actually didn't ask me for my 2 photos, since I gave 3 at my medical. I was worried that they forgot at the interview!

My USC hubby lives in Canada as a permanent resident with me (he is originally from Illinois) but still crosses the border everyday to work in the States. We live on a border state so he moved to Western NY to be close to me when our original Canadian immigration paperwork was going through 4 years ago.
I highly recommend you get as much as you can because even with all of our evidence (his job, bank accounts, letter from parents...all in the USA), they still gave us a bit of a hard time. We were approved, but there were a few moments when hubby and I were very concerned at the interview...the interviewing officer kept having to go back to the supervisor. If you look through the Canada forum, there is a sticky on Domicile, there have been quite a few denials. Read the entire thread over to see what else the 2 of you can do to start re-establishing so you are not delaying the process further. Best of luck to both of you.

got my passports
so what is in the mystery package anyway?
Don't think we'll ever know! I'm curious too but not curious enough to mess up my POE! LOL

To update with me: I was never in true AP, it was just actually processing.
abha37911: Were you or your spouse from another country originally? Certain countries always go into AP after approval in the interview stage, if you look at the Forum for Waivers/Administrative Processes, the list is there.

I had my email from DHL and it still wasn't showing anything on the CSC site when I got mine. Glad to hear it's on it's way!!!

Thank you for all the comments on this, it has been very helpful. I know my hubby had printed me out stuff to look at but I was too worried about getting my visa first to worry about anything else. My GP here in Ontario is not bad, WHEN I can see him. But he has way too many patients and I can barely talk to him for 15 min and I still don't feel like we've gone over everything. I'm in good health but I always worried about it when I got older or if I really did end up with some serious issues.
I will look over his plans again. In theory he knows them well, but since he never goes to the doctor, I don't think he remembers how to go about it again, LOL

So now that this is all really happening, I can't help but worry about losing my OHIP now. My husband has good coverage through his employer but this is something I have never had to think about before, as I'm sure most of you can empathize with. How did you deal with it???
-
Luvn, when was your interview??
So happy your passport is on its way!
My fiance had her interview last Monday (July 11) and we received an email back this past Friday morning that visa had been approved and should have been printed on Friday....they asked us to be patient.
This was the actual email-
"The visa should be printed today, it has been approved but hasn’t left our office as it must be cleared in our system
as done with every case. I’ll keep you posted.
Thank you for your continued patience."
SOooooo needless to say, both my fiance and I are logging into visa site every single day, probably every hour haha....expecting to see a waybill number so we can track it!
Hate the wait!!! She is in Toronto and I am down in Florida now (just moved from NY) so the distance SUCKS.
My interview was Tuesday 12. The only email I received was from DHL, nothing from the Embassy. Good luck and hope that you have a waybill number very soon!
Do they ship these next day air? Or they are sent ground delivery adding another few days to someplace like Winnipeg?
I have no idea but when I got my email late Tuesday night, it said it left Dorval. This morning, I got a phone call from DHL that it had arrived and the waybill tracking showed that it was in my location. I'm about 8 hour drive from Montreal so it's possible to have been either in my case.

Awesome news!
I was really worried about this, so I decided to start calling DOS early. DOS told me to e-mail the consulate as they had "Not approved" our visa yet. That scared me shitty so I e-mailed them, got a blanket responder e-mail saying "we will not tell you anything about the status of your visa." So then I got scared that they were going to yell, but I got a nice little e-mail this morning.
If I could take anything away from this is, be patient and don't do anything too early, LOL If I had just waited one week and not called DoS, I wouldn't have freaked out. I know it's a long process and we are just as eager as everyone to tie up loose ends and get going, but calling that one day and talking to DoS, really messed up my weekend!
-
You can try calling DOS and asking them if Montreal got the package and opened it or are reviewing it, but thats about it!
Montreal can take a few weeks to months to get to your mail and go through it and review things and issue the visa.
I guess I forgot my checklist in package 3, so I sent it off and waited a bit and never heard anything. I called DoS and they were able to tell me when it got there. Hope it all goes smoothly
-
Not sure myself, but I hope everything goes speedy for you guys.

Just got the email that my passport is on it's way from Dorval!

I'm happy to report that my passport is on it's way! On another post I made, some VJ'ers suggested that it wasn't *true* AP, just possibly meant it was still being processed and it looks like that's exactly what happened. So, our domicile issue was fine, I still suggest that anyone going through this bring as much proof as you can of domicle.
-
After all that...I just got my DHL email to say that my passport is on it's way!!! Woohoo! Thanks to all of you that eased my mind, hearing those dreaded words really worried me.
-
I think I've heard some good news. I called DoS again this morning (thanks to you guys and what you think may have happened!
) and the gentlemen I spoke to this morning did NOT mention the words Administrative Processing...he didn't really say what it was really. He said, "when did you last call?" I explained I called on Friday that I had called and was told I was in Administrative Processing and that I wanted to get a head start on any issues now if that was the case. He then said, "well, there really aren't any issues, Montreal just has a lot of cases at the momemnt so they haven't gotten around to printing it out yet, so just wait to hear from them".
I really hope all of you were right on this one! That would be awesome. I'll still worry until I hear more (as it's my nature, LOL) but at least it's promising.
-
I had my Approval at the interview early Tuesday morning, but when I called DoS on Friday to get an update on my Visa, I was told I'm in Administrative Processing! DH (usc) was born in Illinois and I was born in Ontario, so it's not a terrorist country thing. Other VJ'ers that I have asked said sometimes DoS says it's AP but they don't really mean it that way, they just mean "it's processing". I hope that is the case because our situation is pretty much straightforward. So hard when you've already waited sooooo long and there is still a lot of waiting to be had.
Good luck to the remaining interviews!
-
I'm on business day 5 but according to DoS, I'm in administrative processing. I don't know why I'm in AP, I'm hoping that (according to what other VJ'ers have said) it was a term DoS used incorrectly, meaning it's still in the processing stages. I have tried calling DoS a few time today, but they have been very busy. Still keeping faith that I'm not really in true "AP".

Question for you? Did you show them evidence of where you will be living in the United States. I.e. an apartment rental lease or a purchase agreement for a house in the united states or if you guys were going to be living with a relative did they provide an affidavit also is his income level above the 125% poverty level?
Sunny
Yes to both. His income is above the poverty limit ($30+) and we had a signed and dated letter from both his Mom & Dad stating we were welcome to stay as long as we like.
-
Thanks. I hope to do the same. That's why I posted in here as well as my separate post, since this one is pinned. Once I have a better idea (still hoping for a mistake) I will elaborate in case anyone else ends up in the same boat. This board has been great, I would never have known about DCF, let alone, the rest of the stuff I should be prepared for.
We already did immigration once when my DH came up this way and it was nothing compared to this. His was a breeze!
-
I' sorry, where is your new post saying that??
I really am sorry for you, I was trying to clarify something. I was trying to say that once you got the visa in your passport and the envelope to take to the boarder you were good to go which usually was 2 - 3 days after the interview.
From the way I read your post, it sounded like you got that, but you were waiting for the "greencard" which comes only after moving to the US.
I misunderstood your post.
I am truely sorry you are having this difficulty.
Good luck hopefully it will be resolved soon.
Oops I just reread my reply and it sounded sarcastic which was NOT my intention at all...it was more said in a defeated way. Weird how it comes out sounded totally different in your head. Just was really out of sorts when I posted. I had started a new topic within the board and that was what I was referring to. It's hard not to worry until I find out why I'm in AP, but many people responded saying they were told by DoS they were in AP when that wasn't the case at all. I'm hoping I'm in that group, although a straight out simple approval would have been better, LOL
-
That sounds a little more promising. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you guys are right!
-
I couldn't find her post, but I found another but I guess they were told about the name hit AT the interview. Our names are really not common, at all. Not even my past last names (maiden, prev marriage) I seriously want to puke right now. I just wasn't expecting this.
TD Bank/RBC, switching from Canada to USA
in Canada
Posted
I have seen posts about how you can switch your info from these banks over to the US, in order to start building credit faster. I'm a bit confused...do you mean I just need to have a savings/chequing account to do this or do you mean that I should have a credit card with either of these banks? (I'm not a member of either of these banks but I'm not moving until August 26 so I would still have time to open one).
