  1. I do have another question though. Do i really need to send all the originals for packet 3? It sounds really risky to me.

No, you don't send originals of everything. They'll send you an official checklist. Once you sign/swear that you have all the documents listed, they will give you an interview time. Until then, you wait. So make sure you have everything ready right now. :)

  2. Take a look at my timeline. You'll never call the consulate in Malaysia--they'll send you packet 3, you'll send some info back. Then, they'll send you packet 4 with your interview date and info about the medical. I think my timeline is optimal: I sent everything back the day I received it and even had the interview moved up.

If you do everything right, I'd estimate NOA2 - Interview in Malaysia at about 60 days. Just make sure you have your police certificate! :P

  3. Congrats again, Riki. <3 Really hope we'll stay in touch even after the visa process is over for both of us.

Less than 6 days until the interview! And in 10 days, we'll be in Bali! Nervous and excited for the interview; just excited for the trip to Bali.

  4. Well I'm not sure how big your age difference is, but I wouldn't worry yet. It sounds like your RFE was for a legitimate reason: you forgot the death certificate.

A big age difference may be seen as a red flag at some embassies, but there's certainly no such thing as an age barrier that would get your petition automatically denied.

Best of luck and try not to worry so much! :)

  5. Yes, most embassies allow you to have one co-sponsor. When it comes time for the interview, both you and your father will fill out an I-134, even if you have not found a job by then. Just make sure your father makes enough to cover all of his dependents and your fiancé.

What do you mean by "prove this money exists"? I believe the fee for the interview is currently $350. Other than that, the beneficiary's financial situation is not taken into account. You just need to assure the embassy that you/your co-sponsor can support him when he arrives in the USA.

    Best of luck. :)

  6. Selamat tengahari,

The medical went great! He had no vaccination records so he was worried about needing tons of shots. They only gave him one MMR, though. Truth be told, I think I was more nervous than he was. I was sitting the waiting room sweating like crazy and feeling ill. We're both glad it's over.

Yeah, we got our interview date too! They originally scheduled it for May 31, but my social visit pass expires that day! They were kind enough to move it to May 26 so I can attend. We have 19 long days ahead of us. :)

    How are you doing?

  7. Hey! I'm doing just dandy here. Enjoying Malaysia + living with my fiancé. The embassy received our 'packet 3' response eight days ago, so we are hoping to receive packet 4 with the interview date in the mail anytime now!

I'm still sure my fiancé will be put in AP after the interview, but I figure the sooner we get an interview, the sooner we start AP and the sooner AP finishes. :P

  8. Hi Riki! Thanks so much for the "review" of the medical exam you sent me. My fiancé is still terrified, but now he knows what to expect. :P

Thanks Bsze... I'm checking the mail for packet 4 every day just in case they sent it quickly. :D

Off I go to my Bahasa Malaysia class. It's been very fun!

  9. If your fiancé is a male from the Middle East, this question is very tough to answer! Many beneficiaries from the MENA countries have to go through additional background checks (AP/AR) after the interview. Because of this possibility, I would not make any travel arrangements until the visa is in hand.

Best of luck for your interview!

  10. Looks good. Make sure to send supporting evidence/documents with your I-134. There will be more paperwork for your fiance to do before the interview, but it doesn't require your signature.

I'm not sure what they do with the cases at NVC, but they are usually not there for too long. You can call or email to get the new case number once they have received the file. NVC can also tell you when they sent your file to the embassy. Here is a link with tips about calling NVC and DOS. You are not required to call/email NVC, but many people like to do it in order to track their file more closely. Personally, I emailed them 9 days after my NOA2 email and they gave me my new case number and told me they had sent my case to the embassy. 3 days after that, I got a letter from the NVC with the new case number again.
