Hi Everyone,

Been a very long time since I posted. My husband is from Tunisia. He is very concerned that under the new president that getting his citizenship could be impeded? We are finally financial able to. Anyone else's spouses concerned?

Thanks for every one's responses who were genuine. We went to his mosque and spoke with an Imam and told him it was fine to go. We went and payed our respects to my Great Aunt and the rest of my family. My husband was rather happy he could go.

Hi I really couldn't find a similar post answering this question. I am Christian my husband is Muslim. My family background we are not uber religious. My great uncle on my Dad's side just past away this week. The viewing (wake) is tonight and tomorrow's the funeral (not able to attend tomorrow due I have to work). But plan on going to the viewing tonight hoping my husband will come with me. We got into somewhat of an argument whether or not he actually could do to religious reasons. It's at a funeral home not a church no service will be held tonight. Just going to pay respects to the family. He is really unsure as am I. He really wasn't raised in a family setting where everyone was close and got together for family functions. He sometimes really drags heels going to family get-together's. Sometimes I end up going alone and of course everyone asks where he is. I hate the looks I get from family and all the questions. But I want him there to be by my side supporting me. I am there for him 100% on every thing. I don't want him to do anything that is really forbidden for him to do religiously. Any thoughtful and informative answers are welcomed. Thanks!

Husbands social security card was issued in another state (not sure if that would affect any thing??). We are trying to get him a new drivers license since we moved to a new state. He needs to have a valid drivers license for work purposes for the state we are now living in. (his old driver license is not expired). He showed the DMV his Social Security Card and his green card. The lady he spoke with the DMV says his name is in wrong order (either on his SS card or on the green card). On his GC it says Surname: Johnson and Given name: Mike. Surname ='s last name correct? and Given name ='s First name correct? Then on his SS card it says MIke on top of his last name which is on the bottom

so it looks like this

social security blah blah blah

MIke

Johnson

This looks just the same as mine does...???

But the other problem is when he went to the social security office . They did a name search it came up "Name did not verify"?? What does that mean. He tried telling me it's like they have name wrong in the computer, or he doesn't exist in there??? (as far as I know they don't delete SS numbers? Has any one ever run in to this for a Social Security search?

He has the actual SS Card so how can that be??? (it does say "Valid for Work only with DHS Authorization") but that shouldn't effect anything???

We are in the process of removing conditions also.

Copy of school diplomas, certificates, certified copy of your birth certificate, maybe get an international drivers license, certified copy of divorce papers if appiicable, any references you can get from former employers / coworkers/ friends for work, copy of vaccinations record etc...

Tried that didn't find anything. Anyways turned out the didn't ask for anything. In the clear.

Thanks for the replies. I do have upto three days of bereavement leave. I will just wait to hear from my HR deparment come Monday if they require any documentation.

Long time since I am posted. My husband who is from Tunisia we just found out Wednesday that his brother passed away. We were unable to attend the funeral due to financial issues. But I have taken the last few days off of work we have something called bareevement leave I was told I had up to 3 days by my manager but I am not sure if I need to bring something into work to show proof of the death. As this would be very difficult as it did not take place here in the US and would be in arabic if there was anything. I've stayed home to greeve with my husband and be here for support there is no way I could leave him home alone. (If I did what kind of heartless person would I be?) Is there anybody out there is there some place on the web i can go to, to find a Tunisian obituary or some sort of notice to show my work? If anybody knows anything any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi - my husband is trying to get a job we've filled out the applications, given a resume, but the company want more and more info. My husbands been mostly self-employed when he worked in his home country and his other place of employment went out of business, as well as another employer (one actually commited suicide which lead to the bussines going out of business) ? They want people to contact to confirm his employment history perferably a person in a management postion. I'm not sure how he can do this being self-employed and/or went out of business? Has any one has similar instances? Any helpful advice is greatly welcomed.

I received a letter, response from CSC in regard to service request that I opened here at Atlanta office.

It says

"Your case is currently being adjudicated. You should receive a notice of action within 45 days.

A notice of action may be in a form of Approval Notice, Denial Notice, Transfer Notice, Request for Evidence, Notice of Intent to Deny or Notice of Intent to Revoke"

In the mean time, I spoke to rep from senior US Senator Saxy Chambliss to look into my case. I am hopeful for a faster response.

Get your Senator or House Representative involved asap or you will be waiting for a very long while.

Quick question about Advanced Parole. I am asking here since I have been with this forum all this time.

As part of our AOS filing, we also filed for Advanced Parole. It was approved along with work permit. It has EAD/Advanced Parole.

For our wedding anniversary, we want to visit Canada side Niagara falls. I heard it's more beautiful from Canada site.

Just want to make sure if it is okay go go out of USA and be able to come back to the USA as long as it's within EAD/Advanced Parole expiration date.

When we first applied we told that we want to goto Bahamas, but since it was received few months after the wedding, we end up going to Key west for honeymoon last year.

Advanced Parole was never used.

Do you think there would be any problem?

There should be no issues since you had your advance parole that's its purpose. Though you may want to reapply for your EAD/ AP they recomend doing so atleast 3 months before it expires.

I finally received a response from one of the 5 people (Service request, Ombudsman, congressman, 2 senators) I've contacted for help with our AOS. It reads: "USCIS records indicate the I-485 case MSCXXXXXXX is currently under review with an officer. Your constituent should receive a notice of action within 45 days." To say that I am underwhelmed is quite an understatement. Is this the standard response? I checked today, and our case still hasnt been touched since 02/03/2012.

You should now see something with in the next couple of weeks when we recieved this we got our green card with in a couple of weeks. If you want some one more to investigate it try this some one had told me try them actually I did then with in a hour I got the text message stating card was in production (coincidence or this guy is just really awesome...??)

We are in the same boat..filed October 28th 2011 and still no word. I called in for a service request about two weeks ago and just sent my info to our congressman a few days ago. I just don't understand how there is no rhyme or reason on how they do the processing. How are some people getting so much faster than others?

We found the process quite mind boggling was well. Since you contacted your congressman that seems to have been helping speed up the process for very over due cases.
