I think that one of the great mistakes that people make is lack of time. I've seen time and time again that people rush into marriage (international and other wise) and don't take the time to know their potential mate.
I believe that some people can fall in love quickly but that isn't the case of most. The other mistake is unrealistic expectation -- "she's going to be a great house wife", "he's going to be an outstanding provider". We have to be realistic about our expectations as well.
Marriage is more than a wedding, it takes work and so many don't understand that until its too late.

You I94 gives you 90 days in which to fill the visa requirment ( get married ) or leave the USA. If you have married, you have fulfilled the requirments. There is no time frame on which to file the AOS, I know someone coming up 2 years now because the petitioner doesnt make enough money for the Support Forms, so she cannot file for him. Basicaly, you have no status at all during this time. Youre not illigal, because you entered legaly, but your not a PR, because you dont have your greencard. Your just in limbo.
I worried during this time, mostly about ICE. I live in Texas and the illigals crossing the border is a big problem here. I would hear ICE stories all the time. It wasnt until I found out that they are 1) only interested in people who are here illigaly and 2) That those people have criminal records and are considered dangerous. I was niether of these and that set my mind at ease.
I hope this helps you .

I sincerely don't thing you should feel bad about receiving your NOA2 quickly its truly something to celebrate! However the under tone of the post is far from good taste...while it may not have been your intention it gives the feeling of pure mean spiritedness...just my opinion.

What bearing does this have on the OP? The OP stated her friend is in Jamaica dating some guy. You can deduce that if her friend is in Jamaica one of them has to be in the USA, and therefore that would be the guy who has the child support issues. The USC doesn't NEED a passport so the child support/passport issue is a moot point.
They have to have met in person in the last 2 years in order to qualify for a K1 visa (or any visa really because you need to be married for a spousal visa and they don't accept proxy weddings).
If, as you stated, the guy cannot get a passport then the girl needs to visit him. Bear in mind that he needs to sign that he can support her at 125% of the poverty level. You mentioned child support so he has at least 1 child making his household size (including your friend) at least 3. He needs to make at least $22,887. If he has more than 1 child that amount increases by $4,675 per additional person/child.
As a side note - while it's great he's sending HER money, his children and his support of them should be his first priority. If he can so easily ignore his children, his blood, then he will probably think no better of doing the same to her. Of course if he's paying it off and it just got too hard when he lost his job etc etc then there's extenuating circumstances BUT they reduce the amount required based on his income.. which implies he HAD the income, he just doesn't care about his child/ren. Of course I know nothing of your friend or her guy but she needs to be careful. There are more stories than you realise of immigrants being abused, or restricted money wise, or whatever else.. your friend should make sure she REALLY knows this guy before making this move.
