  1. So, I'm filing for my wife's citizenship and I was almost done with the N400 when I sort of hit a snag, because they asked for something I don't have and did not expect them to ask for. Maybe my fault because I didn't do any research ahead of time? But anyway, I had everything else I needed to complete the form.

They're asking for proof of my wife's relationship to her children. They are all in their 30s and have no intention of immigrating here. But anyway I suppose they want birth certs and translations for all of them. Ugh, what a pain and now a delay. I hope it doesn't take a month so that I have to start the form over again.

Does anyone think it could cause a delay if I don't provide these before submitting the electronic form? It says she can just take them to the interview, but I'm concerned it might cause a delay.

  2. I haven't been on here for a long time. But was here a lot during my wife's green card process. Received lots of help here.

Anyway, I expected a citizenship application to be a piece of cake, since everyone I know who has recently went through the process, told me that's the case. Well, that went south immediately.

When filling out the n-400 application online, my wife's surname will not fit on the online form. It's too long. So I thought, oh well, it will be fine. Then I get to the question that asks us to put her name in EXACTLY as it's printed on the Green Card. Well, guess what? Impossible. Why would they print a name on the Green Card that will NOT fit on the citizenship application? Do I have to use a paper form? Ugh.

  3. Hi all

I went for my interview at the consulate a couple days ago. I wasn't declined or approved. In fact she sent me away saying I need to find a joint sponsor as my husbands $48,000 per year didn't meet the guidelines. She said For a family of 4 ( we have two kids) it'll be just over $90,000. Is this right?? My joint sponsor earns $62,000 so I'm hoping they will combine with my husbands pay. $90,000 just seems like too much. And the officer kept my passport and original docs even though she didn't approve me...

Holy cow is that ever wrong, it's not even close to that! I can't remember what it was, but I do remember that it was ridiculously low.

  4. Hello all!

I received an RFE today asking for my divorce decree and more evidence of good faith marriage. Oh and also asking for "identity document" such as driver's license? I've never heard of them asking for that hmm....

Well I'm kind of stuck now because divorce in California takes at least 6 months and they're asking for all this to be submitted by August 11th :(

That does seem really strange, because how did you get your 2 year green card without the divorce decree? I had to submit mine when we did our CR-1 filing.

Drivers license also seems like a really strange request. Why would they need that?

divorce in California takes at least 6 months

Ok, now I am really confused. Is your green card not based on marriage?

Never mind, I just read your timeline. Now it makes sense. In that case, not sure how you can go any further without the divorce decree, since it's based on that.

  5. I've been a victim of police brutality myself. It's nothing to sneeze at. Here's the issue, when you tackle something like this, there's a finesse you need to use. Being blunt and in your face might work for those of us who know what time it is, but for the rest of the population, you alienate them.

This is a very serious issue today. You are in a lot more danger from some roided up band of cops, playing army guy and busting your door down in the middle of the night, because they went to the wrong house, than you are from any street criminals.

Your dog should be afraid also. Apparently, cops number one hobby after tazing granny and roughing up grandpa, is shooting the family pet.

  6. IQ is probably one of the worst measures of how 'smart' a person is.

Neither is having a list of degrees. Education is great, but it doesn't necessarily make you more intelligent. It makes you have more knowledge than most people in certain subjects.

Anyway, I don't think anyone can say that Stephen Hawking is not an intelligent person, and he is without doubt in the top 1%, at least in math skills. But I don't want him as president so that our top national priority is worrying what we will say to aliens when they finally arrive.

  7. That was already tried before, to no avail. Google 'The People vs. Larry Flynt'. It was a milestone case in which the First Amendment came under attack, from [sic] statists in an unprecedented manner. In the end the Constitution won.

The first amendment is still under attack, every single day. Hopefully, it will always be to no avail, but it sure will not stop certain people/groups from trying.

Look at how some universities are setting up 'Free Speech Zones', special zones where you can practice free speech. Ok, the argument can be made, it's a private organization, they are within rights to do this on their own property. Ok, but it's still pretty creepy.

  8. So called 'liberal' professors like this, hate the first amendment and want to see it done away with. The only speech they want allowed is speech they agree with. BTW, they are NOT liberals, they are progressives - AKA statists. Ban speech we don't agree with - what could possibly go wrong?

When they came for me, there was no one left to speak up for me, and even if there was someone, they weren't allowed to speak!

  9. What seems to make me really angry is that for people with money or celebrities or other public officials the US immigration people turn their head and look the other way and let them in. For example Paul McCartney or Russell Brand or amy weinhouse they all have criminal convictions for controlled substances but yet are let into the US.

Laws are for the little people, not for celebrities, and especially not for politicians holding high offices, like congress. We have no one but ourselves to blame, we elected these corruptocrats and watched them create a billion laws that they selectively enforce and which never apply to them. Maybe we should start voting in normal citizens, like us, instead of career politicians?

Sounds like you have made up your mind that moving is not an option. So I guess the only thing left is more lawyers and hopefully some type of legal solution. Best of luck

I would move to Siberia or China to be with my wife. But everyone is different.

  10. Well, we are still living in the dark ages here in the USA with our draconian drug laws. Unfortunately, so is most of the other so called civilized countries on earth.

I know what I would do in your situation. I mean you could try contacting the couple of lawyers suggested here and try again for a waiver. But I'm just saying, if it was me, I would be immediately trying to immigrate to the UK. Maybe it's not the preferred solution, but family is more important than anything else. It's a tough choice, but I am 100% sure if my wife was not able to come here, I would try moving to her country, without a 2nd thought. And UK probably would be one of the easier countries to make a transition to. At least everyone there speaks English, so there's that.

  11. Mr. Fancypants has shared some topics that have taken on a life of their own over the years, and provided welcome diversion for those waiting to be reunited with their loved ones. And despite living on the left edge of lunacy, he really is a nice person.

I wasn't trying to judge him personally, as I don't know him.

It's just that, as someone who is involved in a lot of political debate, I know how ugly it can get. Especially when someone sets out to divide from the onset (you know, my team is better than yours!), instead of having an objective and non-biased debate.

A lot of those who I disagree with politically are nice people, and some of them are my friends, so I have no problem believing you on that.

The sad truth about immigration law, is that outside of a very small majority in congress, both teams will stuff any bill, full of pork, cronyism, and a plethora of non-transparent and unrelated non-sense. IOW, they will make immigration worse, before they make it better. They can't be trusted.

  12. Several posts containing insulting language have been removed, along with posts quoting that material. Administrative action has been taken. Please post constructively on the topic of this thread, or don't post.

Good idea. The original poster, however, was obviously trying to start a team red / team blue partisan politics, screaming match.

No good can come of that.

This site should be for helping each other with immigration issues, regardless of our political ideologies, we are all here for the same reason.
