Went to bank of america and we were actually able to open a joint bank account surprisingly easy with the credentials I had, no state id/license needed !!!!!! It's pretty crazy how each bank is different. Next stop the DMV to pass the written test for the learners permit. Thanks to all for your help and suggestions

Maybe is time to shop for another bank or to have a talk to the bank branch manager. In many cases bank clerks insist on a drivers license because they just don't know; they need to be directed to check with the manager of the branch. You wouldn't even have to close this account, just found another bank. We have several accounts in various banks.

Bank of America here in TX had no problems to add my wife to my account and she only needed to show her passport.

Alternatively, car insurance paperwork?

But if you are using your passport to prove your name and identity it's not about the stamp - just the passport itself so it's a different agency as it's the government of your home country.

From the guidelines it looks like an American bank credit or ATM card is 1 point so that would work.

in the list of usable documents it states a "foreign passport with valid I-551 stamp" as one document, my foreign passport alone would prove my age and name but not the fact that I'm a resident, it's more or the less the stamp that counts. The bank wont add me to my husbands bank account without a valid new york state ID/drivers license or a utility bill in my name .... It's really unbelievable that the bank wont accept the permanent resident card, it's my government issued ID ...

Also, just in case, FYI: several states in the US have agreements with Europeans countries to 'exchange' drivers licenses. SOme years ago, when I was living in Colorado and had a CO license I was able to get a German license when I moved over there for some time, because there was an agreement. WHile in most cases you had to surrender your US license, because I was still going back and forth, I was able to keep it.

Different states had/have agreements with different countries, might be worth a bit of research.

There is no agreement with the state of New York and France, we learned this awhile ago when my husband moved to France

Just a thought, how about your passport and a US bank statement with your name? In TX they valid documents for the MVD (or DPS as it is called here).

The i-551 stamp in my passport wont work since i can only use one document per issuing agency, so it's either my passport with stamp or my permanent resident card and I can't be added to my husbands bank account because they want a new york state ID/drivers license or a utility bill which I don't have since I'm living with mother-in-law. I was wondering if anyone else has already been through this and can give me advice on getting my new york state drivers license.

In order to get my license I need 6 points worth of documents proving my name, age or address. I have my permanent resident card and social security card which equal 5 points and I'm having a real hard time getting one last usable document on the department of motor vehicules list since, almost all of the documents listed either dont apply to me like utility bills or they paradoxically require a drivers license to obtain!!!!

If anyone has any tips please fill me in! Thank you very much.

I got a call from the embassy yesterday... They postponed my interview from sept 3 to sept 12 because there are too busy. Too many people have to be interviewed and she even told me to come earlier than my appointment time otherwise I would have to wait all afternoon long.

Seems like they scheduled a lot of people today ! They just scheduled an interview for me for the the 3rd of September

Oh well lots of people have been getting checklists after the case complete. It's pretty new, fairly annoying, and generally useless.

Don't worry because we also got a checklist after case complete to correct things that we already did in the first checklist.. its confusing because you don't whether to put the same answers from the supposedly "corrected AOS", we know how you feel

It's really strange I think. It's like there's always something going wrong for no reason at the NVC stage, for us at least lol.

We're going to bring the "corrected AOS" for the interview and see what they'll do with it. The France embassy doesn't seem too strict so I guess we're lucky for that

If you had a case complete I'm not sure why you're worried? You called the nvc and got the answer you wanted.

We are worried because even if we have a case complete, we got checklist for things to modify that are already right. So we were wondering if some people ever had this type of issue.

For exemple, they ask to write the name of city of birth when it's already written ^^ That's pretty weird.

And on your husband's I-864 you put just the two of you?

The best I can think of is to either ask for a supervisor review, or resend the documents, triple checking everything is accurate against what they have sent you.

We just had case complete despite this. If we ask for a supervisor review or we resend the documents, we're going to start all over the famous "20 business days".

How many do you have in your household? Just you and your spouse? Did the joint sponsor complete an I-864A or I-864?

My co-sponsor has 4 persons to declare in his household : himself, his wife, one dependent and me (the applicant) so we wrote everything right 3 + 1 = 4. It's really strange. It's an i-864 since me and my husband both live abroad together.

On the first checklist there wasn't any mention of the errors which are stated on this new checklist.... Eventhough we copied everything exactly the same except for the corrections. Now the corrections are right at least but they found problems elsewhere.

We called the NVC this morning and the girl didn't help at all because to be able to see what's wrong, they would have to reopen the whole case which would have delayed us.... When my husband tried to ask why the checklists were different, she got annoyed and didn't know what to answer. She finished by saying "just bring the paper to the interview".

Moi qui suis très bio, je suis mal barrée Je viens de regarder, il y a un Whole foods et un Trader's Joe à 25 min de là où je vais habiter. J'ai par contre lu sur le net que le fait d'acheter chez Whole Foods ne veux pas dire "sans OGM"... Youpi !!!!

J'ai appelé CTIA et c'est intéressant si on envoie 100kgs minimum! Sinon c'est le même prix pour le poids en dessous de 100 kgs donc vu que j'envoie 40 kgs soit deux valises, je reste avec bagages du monde.

En plus il m'a dit qu'il ne faisait plus l'envoi direct au domicile, il faut aller le chercher à l'aéroport.

Ah oui en effet pour 40 kg, ça vaut pas le coup. Moi j'emmène plus que ça vu que mon mari mari est avec moi ici. On a double d'affaires. On a remplir les 0.6² au max ! Salut! Je suis bien arrivee. Creuvee et completement jetlagged, surtout mon fils. Le voyage a ete long, cette escale a dublin de 4h est ce qui a rendu le tout plus difficile car le petit s est bien comporte dans l avion. A l avenir meme si c est plus cher ce sera que des vols directs. De toute facon a partir de maintenant, je ne voyagerai plus l ete. Le POE s est assez bien passe, j ai bien sur ete emmene en secondaire, avec mon historique je m en doutais donc j ai pas ete surprise. Mais bon je n ai pas ete questionne, ils ont juste ouverts l enveloppe et rendu mon passeport. En fait c etait surtout le mec du depart qui etait gueule de c.. Enfin vous pouvez lire ma review. Le plus dur a ete l attente d environ 30 minutes en secondaire avec presque une journee de voyage dans les pates et le petit super creuve et qui a du subir encore plus d attente, heureusement yavais la poussette. Mumu, j'ai trouvé moins cher que Bagages du monde moi. Pour environ 500€, la société CTIA transport vient chercher mes cartons (0.6 m² - 100kg max) chez moi à 200 km de Paris pour que je les récupère 5 jours plus tard à l'aéroport à NY. Ca fait plus de 10 cartons de taille standard soit l'équivalent de 4 grosses valises.

After correcting the amount as NVC advised you to, you may want to still include a short letter explaining about your co-sponsor's own income & the total amount on his transcript.

That's what we did with my husband's I-864. I had US income last 2011 when I was on a J1 visa and since we got married December that year, we filed married jointly. We wrote the total on the transcript on the I-864 then attached both of our W-2's (his first, then mine, since his is what's important) to show individual income and also a letter explaining it all so it's easier for NVC to understand what's with all the paperwork.

I know it's hard because we are so close to the end of this journey. Just hang in there! We are getting a checklist too for our co-sponsor but I just accepted it and am just continually praying and hoping for the best.

Oh ok. Well what I don't really understand is that I've read people getting a checklist for having done what the NVC just told us to do (write the total of the transcript)... So then they resent the i-864 with the amount written on the W2 just like we did originally and it got accepted.

We put the amount that appears in the IRS tax return transcripts, that she and her husband filed together. A NVC representative told me to put the W2´s amount instead of the other ones.
