  1. Thank you everyone for the posts. I wish it were that easy just file for divorce. I know that that is the right thing to do right now and I want to to protect myself but its very difficult because I do love her I didn't go through all of this trouble and spend all of this money for it to end like this. I spoke to her tonight and asked her if this is what she was doing and she said I was unbelievable and she just wanted me out of her life and to continue a new life on here in the U.S. no matter what it was. She said I was only making assumptions just like I always do and that she hadn't admitted to anything so again I am the bad guy. Im very upset right now and just wish this would all go away. I didn't ask for any of this and just want my life back to normal.

  2. Hello everyone. I have a quick question here and I really don't know that rules on how this goes. Wife just received her green card about 3 weeks to a month ago. We got into a big argument over a guy that she had met and she went and stayed with him for 4 days. Long story short it still isn't ok. She is now staying with a friend of mine and doesn't want to work this out with me even though I told her I would do anything to work it with her. I know I haven't been as supportive as I could have been in the past and I should have been there for her more and I understand that now and I want to work on it but she doesn't want to. She also doesn't want to go back to England. She wants to stay here in the U.S. My question is how is that possible. I know she is speaking with a immigration lawyer but I was told that if our marriage didn't work she had to return to her country. She tells me that it will take 2-3 months for her to do what she needs to do to be able to stay but she cant sign divorce papers during that time and doesn't want me to file for it. Can anyone please tell me what she is planning to do and how this lawyer could make it to where she could stay. Im very confused and would really appreciate the help. Please if anyone knows whats going on here please enlighten me. Thank you very much.

  3. Hey everyone,

Received my wife's green card in the mail today. So that was quite fast. My question is for a SSN now. Fist how do you apply for it? Do you fill out forms and send them in or do you go to the Social Security office and do it all there. If so do they require you go with an appointment? What all should you bring if you have to go to the office. And lastly, how long does it take to get the number? Thank you very much for looking, any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you,

    C.

  4. Hello everyone, passed the interview on thursday so the Green Card is in the mail should be here in about 10 days is what she said. Funny thing is they still havent cashed the check for $1070. I know they will eventually get theres im sure. But has this happened to anyone else? I thought they cashed the check when they were taking finger prints and what not. Please let me know if you know anything.

  5. Hello everyone. Interview date is tomorrow at 9:45 here in San Diego California. Just a couple real quick questions. On the I797C form it states in part of the checklist to bring original and copy of your each supporting document that you submitted with your application. Otherwise they keep the originals for record. My question is don't they already have copies of all of these that where sent with the package? Does that mean they want another copy on top of the one they already have? Kinda confusing. Also there isn't a lot of things I could put my wife on without a SSN like the apartment, bank account, etc. She just has a credit card at the moment until this process is through so what else could I bring? Maybe mail with her name on it to this address? Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

  6. How long does it take for them to cash the check once you send your package away? Is it normally after the biometrics appointment? Its been about a month now since I have sent the package out, biometrics letter was recieved last week and its next tuesday. Also do you need to bring anything with you to the biometrics appointment besides the letter and your passport obviously?

    Thank you,

    Chadd B.

  7. Hello everyone, so my wife and I went to a civil surgent to see about getting her final shots and getitng the I-693 form completed and they said that a few of the shots on the old list where no longer needed. One being the HPV shot. I was wondering if anyone knew of this "updated list" because I dont want to go through this pay them the money for the new form and then send it away and it actually be requried. Also they absolutly make it a point that you need to pay physical price about 100 dollars. I explained the you dont need one if its in the last 12 months and they said, "its not a real physical just a couple of questions". I take from that its just a way to get more money which is just dandy right? I mean the rest of this process is just so cheap it only makes since to give more money for something not needed. Anyways, please help if you can. Thanks again everyone.

  8. The more I read about this whole process, the more screwed up it is. My fiancee/husband (when he is) can't get on my bank account until he has a SS# and a utility bill; can't get a utility bill without a permanent address; can't get a permanent address without a utility bill; can't get a driver's license without a one-year visa (Hmm K-1?), utility bill, and a SS#; can't work for 4-6 months....

It almost begs people to do it illegally! I applaud this forum and all of us for doing it the right way.

Did anyone really ever think this through? I am sure that when we are done in a year, it will seem like a laugh, but now it is laughable!

I agree, this is completely out of control. I find it so crazy that after you pay these outragous charges they still mess you around like this. Un real.

  9. 50/50 chance of an interview. Most seem to not have interviews though.

You can get the SSN a couple of weeks after entry but we opted to get mine after our marriage so that we didn't have to mess around with getting the name on it changed after the marriage.

We get married on Friday, when you get married is it easier to obtain? What do you do then just take your marriage license or something like that there? And can I not apply for it now with my name as her last name or something?

  10. Hello everyone,

So my fiance entered the U.S. at the end of March and we get married this Friday here in California. Been really busy dealing with her family coming from England and mine coming from Ohio to be at the wedding and handt had enough time to work on the whole AOS process alot. I just want to make sure we dont get into any trouble and not get things submitted in time and that sort of thing. Could anyone please tell me how soon after your married you have to submit the AOS package? I know her visa expires 90 days after she enters the U.S. but does that mean you have to have the package sent out before that becuase we would have to wait on the hard copy of marriage license and that sort of thing. Furthermore, I think there were a few shots she couldnt get in the U.K. so she has to get them here to complete the I-695 form right? With that being said I am in the military and I cant get her set up for medical until we are married which takes time as well. Is there a website someplace with a list of doctors that do these shots for the AOS process or anything like that? I know this is alot but believe me your help is very much appreciated. Thank you so much for your time.

    Chadd B.
