Background: Married my Canadian wife while she was visiting me here in the US and she stayed. Now seeking AOS.
It was a little unclear to me from the "guide" here in vj, but I need to put in an i-765 with my other forms in order for my AOS spouse to be able to work ASAP right?
Do I basically create a separate file for this one, complete with it's own photocopies of her passport, passport photos, and its own check for the fees, if that makes sense? The instructions for i-765 seem to want all these things.

I just want to make sure this is correct. My Canadian wife is here in the US and married to me and we are seeking adjustment of status. I make checks for the following amounts, right?
I-130 $420
I-485 $1070 (total of fee + biometrics)
I-765 $380
That's it?
Do I write a separate check for each?

I went to a photographer whom has helped me with passport-type photos in the past for our i-130 and i-485 packets, and he took pics of us smiling. Now I'm looking at a sheet of paper I had that says "neutral expression" is required. So that means I wasted time and money and need to take these again, right?

I know it's been asked a lot, but I really need to make sure because of conflicting answers, sometimes even on different forum threads.
I am the US Citizen (petitioner), she the Canadian spouse living with me in the US (beneficiary). There are no children. Can I just get lots of affirmations that I, the US citizen husband should be listed on this question?
The Ilona Bray Nolo books says "leave blank".
This supposed immgration lawyer says leave blank because it's for other types of relatives, e.g., a brother or a sister, who might be married to someone other than the petitioner. http://www.justanswer.com/immigration-law/2975p-confused-question-17-i-130-my-wife-us-citizen.html
And one post here said I should put "N/A" on every line after my name. Can someone confirm this?

Well there have been a lot of delays in submitting our paperwork. Ultimately, I'm to blame for that. She last entered the country December 13 2010 from Canada, and rather than let her go back again, I proposed to her at Christmas, then we were married in the US 11 months ago. She's stayed in the US since. I'm just now planning to send in our i-130 and i-485 packets now, before the 31st of the month. I guess maybe we should wait until her paperwork is properly approved and not take any chances!

Forgive me if this is a tiresome subject but I didn't find my answer searching.
I'm using a combination if Ilona Bray's NOLO book and this forum (and deferring to the sage advice of you friendly people when there is discrepancy!) In the book she warns against using an I-131 because someone might not let you back in regardless, but then goes on to say that pretty much everyone who files gets approved for one.
So my first question is in regard to my wife, who overstayed on her tourist visa after we got married, and is getting pretty homesick. Is it a fine idea or a bad idea to submit the advance parole document i-131 so she can maybe visit Canada before her status is adjusted?
If it's not risky to do so, what's the best strategy? Looks like 90 to 100 days on average for approval. So should we submit with the i-485 stack of documents, with a proposed travel time of say 110 days later?
Do you have to stick to exact "Date of Intended Departure" and "Expected Length of Trip"?

Oh, thank you, and thanks to all who help other members here. It's a relief to know I won't have to rush to file taxes ahead of time and can get this done in a more careful timeframe.

Hi all,
It occurs to me that this is my last day of 2011! We haven't filed our paperwork yet, and as a self-employed person I have to show that I've filed taxes. I am hoping I won't be required to show that I've filed taxes for 2011 yet, since I won't be doing that until April 15th, and quite possibly filing an extension, in fact. Am I safe sending in the immigration forms without showing that I filed 2011 taxes yet, seeing as how they aren't due until at least April?
I hope that question makes sense, and I'm very hopeful that someone can answer today. I may just seek a December 31st postmark if necessary!

Thanks! I have the 1040's. We are having a little okay big disagreement over 2008, which is in the process of being sorted, but all taxes are filed and paid!

Anyone know where I might find an answer?

I'm self-employed. I've filed and paid 2010 taxes (form 1040) and all previous years. However, there may be penalties owed for this year and previous years. What do I have to show immigration, and might these amounts owed negatively impact the process? Anyone here have experience in this area?

19. "Your relative's address abroad". She lives with me in the US now, and is no longer living abroad. Okay to say "None" here?

I'm US citizen by birth, filling out the I-130 to petition for my wife, living with me here in the US. I'm using this forum plus the book "Fiance & Marriage Visas" by NOLO.
First question is regarding #7 "other names used": She is Jennifer, and has gone by "Jenn" and "Jenna". Her maiden name was (changed for privacy) "Smith Wesson" (two last names). Is it sufficient to just jot all that down as "Jenn Jenna Smith Wesson"? And I am Gregory on the form but sometimes go by Greg. Is it sufficient to just put "Greg"?
There is a discrepancy between the sample form here on VJ and the book, on question C.17, "List husband/wife and all children". The book says not to enter my name as husband here, since I'm already covered in the form. Your sample form has the petitioning spouses' name here. Which should I do?
PS thanks to everyone who contributes to this amazing resource.

My girlfriend, a Canadian, is getting hassled both coming and going when visiting me in San Francisco. She has no plans to immigrate here for the forseeable future. But we have learned that the reason for the hassling is *because* they are trying to make the determination she isn't trying to immigrate here illegally.
I'm encouraging her to apply for a NEXUS card, after hearing that it often helps you speed through customs. But she is very timid and reluctant to do so. These interrogations are really rattling her.
Does anyone know if merely applying can have negative consequences. My doomsday scenario here would be her getting denied for some completely innocuous reason, then that rejection creating a black mark on her file that causes her to be turned away next time she tries to visit.
(To forum moderators: I imagine this question gets asked a lot. I'm seeking experienced answers to this specific query, and I also know that things change rapidly so I'm looking for latest answers. Thanks.)

I got my AOS wife her physical, and got a copy of the sealed doc as suggested by you savvy, saintly helpers. The form has her passport number but next to it the part where the doctor's office is supposed to write in "passport" as identification type is blank. The office assistant assured me it's fine that way. Thoughts?
