  1. Hello everyone, it has been one month now since I completed biometrics and I haven't received a yellow letter nor an interview letter. I know this may depend on a variety of factors such as district office etc...but has anyone had a similar experience?

In my case it took a month to get the yellow letter and another month to get the interview letter. Patience is a great virtue, especially with the USCIS.. we all know the feeling... join the club... :)

  2. Got my interview letter today  I'm having the interview 11/23/2010. Two days before Thanksgiving. Newark, NJ has a same day Oath Ceremony.

When everything goes well, I will celebrating Thanksgiving as an American. Where is the turkey...

  3. hi!!!i have a specific case for a year and a half and my i-751 case is still pending!!!everybody i talked ,gave me an advice to file the n-400 form to expedite the roc case!!!what i should do when i apply for naturalization without the second green card!!!do i need to write a separate letter or a notification about the pending of the i-751!!can anybody cuide me and give me a right advice please!!thank you sooooooo much

I don't know your "specific case" but the USCIS expects you to sent in a copy of the front and back of your GC. You need to be married for at least three years to the same person that was married to you when you got your GC and live together in a normal way as is expected from a married couple. Of course you can file N400, but I guess there must be a reason for the delay in removing the conditions of your GC. You are the one that can judge whether your "special case" is special enough to go through with it or not. We can't tell you that... too little specific information. I think it all depends on your marital status at this moment.

  4. Hi, i got a fast question.

When you go to have ur Biometrics done, do u know if they will take a photograph of u or just a fingerprint?? and if Yes, do u know if that photograph will go to ur naturalization certificate??

    Thanks alot.

When they do your fingerprints they also take a photograph. This goes to the FBI and has nothing directly to do with your naturalization. It's a background check.

You need to deliver the photos for your naturalization certificate yourself with the N400 file and sign them on the back.

  5. Okay, so my situation is weird, but probably not unique. We don't have last names, only first name and father's initial (e.g., A. Firstname, where A is the initial of father's first name). To fix this, I've used my father's first name as my last name everywhere, except for my greencard, where for some historical and weird sociological reasons my father's first name shows up as my name and my first name shows up as my last name. So instead of "Lastname, Firstname", it shows up as "Firstname, Lastname". Everywhere else (license, my new Indian passport, employment records, IRS records, Social Security record, etc.) the order is correct.

I'm now going to apply for citizenship, and I don't want this confusion to propagate. I want to find the path of least resistance to correcting it. On the N-400 1A and 1B ask for current legal name and name as on the green card respectively. My options are:

    1. Use the same (correct) order in A and B and pretend as though there was never an issue in my green card. However, I suspect this might cause problems if they search for my record under the wrong name.

    2. Use the correct order in the legal name for 1A and the wrong order (albeit accurate) for 1B and hope they don't see a problem with it and complicate matters.

    3. Do #2 and file a name change form with my N400 form.

    Suggestions welcome.

    Thanks.

I suggest to update your GC. You can do this by filing form I-90. This probably will take some time but seems better than taking the risk of getting refused at the end.

  6. I've looked at all the wait times and it seems to be about 4 months. Money is not the issue but I know that it IS important to my wife to be there for her brothers wedding. I also know they would like my daughter to be in the wedding. I think we are going to take our chances. The issue is I want her memories of U.S. Citizenship to be a happy moment and not one she associates with missing her only brothers wedding.

    Rich

Than I guess you solved your own question... good luck with the process. It will work out just fine..

  7. Each to his own on this subject, set your own priories and don't be asking for advice. Wife's niece she was very close to announced she was getting hitched during our processing time. It was far more important for us to get my wife settled in this country than to postpone it for a wedding.

At weddings, many strangers, loud band, and can barely say hi to the bride or groom, up in cloud nine with a thousand things to do. We did visit them after their wedding, took them to a quiet restaurant and had a very enjoyable evening, even gave them a nice wedding present they loved. US cash. All worked out fine in the end.

If that wedding is more important to you than getting settled in this country, just go.

I agree with Nick... your BIL will do fine without you being there and you can catch up after. The process of becoming a USC will determine your future when you want to stay in this country. Do this ASAP since you never know what the future will bring. Laws can change and it might become a lot more difficult or expensive (which it already is BTW). Don't take that risk.

  8. You can check with the timelines of people who filed in the same month you did - that gives you sort of a comparison.

Don't worry - you'll receive your Interview letter soon.

I know the feeling, though ... ;) Every day of wait seems like an eternity.

Good luck for the last step of your immigration journey! :star:

That's why I ask... there is somebody at the same office in Newark, NJ that filed later and already has his interview scheduled. Very frustrating, especially because there is hardly a way to find out what's going on.

I agree on the eternity thing.... drives me crazy, LOL. Thanks for the support.

  9. You need to develop some patience. Don't look for status updates every day. If you have done your biometrics, you'll need to chill for about 2 to 4 weeks until you'll get your interview letter. Think in weeks and months, not hours and days when it comes to USCIS.

I agree... but it is very frustrating to see that some people that have filed later and have to go to the same local USCIS office are being handled before me. I can see no logic in that. It's not that I have anything special going on. I'm just a regular guy with no history or problems.

    Hard to follow sometimes.

  10. It has been more than 3 weeks since I received the yellow letter telling me to bring my drivers license.

I haven't received the interview letter yet. Is this a normal time frame? If not... what to do?

I have tried to call the USCIS but that wasn't very helpful either. They just tell you whatever is on your case status. I already knew that.

Is there a way to find out what my status really is?

  11. I received the schedule for my interview and the white letter together but didn't get any yellow letter prior to that. Is that normal? My interview is 3 weeks from now. Thanks

Yes, that's normal. The yellow letter only indicates that you need to provide some additional information on the day of the interview (in my case I have to bring my drivers license with me). When there is no need for additional information, you get the white letter immediately. So, you're good. Good luck on the interview.

Good luck for you too Vijay... I saw that you have your interview tomorrow. I wish you all the best. Thanks for the information.

  12. Got a notice that the case has been transferred to a local office for interview, that means soon we'll get the interview notice!

Very good... this means (since we're in practically the same time frame) that I can expect this notice one of these days too... I can't wait.

I just hope that they don't plan the interview before 10/16 (3 years), since Newark has a same day Oath Ceremony.

  13. We did not get anything yet but were introduced to a mystery thanks to Var's thread!

    Inconsistant Case Numbers

The NOA1 has the Application Number in the upper left-hand corner. That still shows online status as Initial Review. HOWEVER, there is another number at the very bottom left of the letter. When I put in that number, just like Var said, that case comes up and it says an RFE letter was sent on July 28! Interestingly enough, the last time our (first) case was touched was on July 27, but no explanation or change in status. The second case shows touched on the 30th. Why are there TWO case numbers? Do all of you have two different numbers on the NOA also, and do they both work when plugging them into the online status? Try it out! Now we have two different Naturalization application numbers on our case profile!

I checked my NOA's and on my papers there is only one and the same number. The one on top is exactly the same as the one at the bottom. I'm not sure why you have different numbers.

  14. Today I got a Biometrics appt. for 09/03/2010
