I was reading about the Supreme Court decision on Motor Voter today when this question occurred to me.

What is the exact procedure by which someone who is at a DMV office to get a license is offered voter registration? Do you have to fill out a separate form by hand or do they just submit the form electronically based on verbal assent from you by just transferring the data from the license application?

I really hope its not the latter because verbal discussion can easily be misunderstood, especially when different accents are involved. I may have to contact all the counties I have lived in just to verify that no DMV employee did that for me

You can be interviewed before hand, and even approved beforehand, but you cannot take the Oath until after your anniversary date.

There's a few stories of people being interviewed before the date, in fact one in particular I recall because they were told they COULD have done same day Oath had they passed their anniversary date but they hadn't so they had to go back again for the Oath ceremony.

You can be interviewed before then but you won't get an official approval until after that date.

You are right... But my hunch is that they will probably not interview people prior to the anniversary. I haven't seen any cases on VJ where that has happened but I don't follow the boards too closely so I can't say for sure. Good luck to us all

I believe they have no problem interviewing people before their 3/5 year anniversary, but if they do they don't approve it until the anniversary date. You definitely can't take your oath before then.

Thanks! Let's see how it goes. As long as they schedule my interview after I return from my trip in mid-June, I am good . And since my LPR anniversary isn't until July 26, I am pretty sure they won't schedule me more than a month ahead of that.

Question for anyone clued in on this. Are they very careful about scheduling interviews only after you have passed your 3 or 5 yr LPR anniversary date or do they sometimes schedule interviews before the anniversary? I have travel plans before my anniversary date so it would be inconvenient if they called me too early.

Haven't received my NOA1 hard copy yet but I checked online case status based on the G-1145 email. And it says my case was received on May 1. I assume that this is also the Priority Date? In that case, do I have to move to May filers or do I still ride with you cool folks?

That happened to me. I was freaking out, but it's correct. Apparently, if im not mistaken, 85034 is the zone, but 85036 is to indicate that it's to stay at post office and put in a post box. So don't worry, your package will be delivered correctly.soon you will get your NOA and see indication that your check has been cashed.

Question for Phoenix filers who used USPS.

I sent my app with USPS Priority Mail. The online tracking says package was delivered at Location Phoenix, AZ 85034. The problem here is that the PO Box address is at ZIP 85036 and I am sure I didn't make an error on the mailing label. Did this happen to any other Phoenix filers? Or has USPS misdelivered mine ?

Thank God! We got an approval notice on our case today! The approval date on the NOA is 04/19/2013. This is 11 months and 3 days after our NOA1! We did not receive any text messages, or emails with the news...

We did not get an RFE, or an interview! If there's still some of you waiting, I pray that you get approved soon!

I'm filing for citizenship in three weeks see you all there!

I have yet to receive my card in the mail. Please update my information. Thank you all for your encouraging words, and for sharing information with those who come behind <3

In other news, I'm getting excited about biometrics. Normally, I hate wasting the day BUT this year I've decided we're going to actually do things in town rather than just "get in, get out". So, this year we're going to go to World Market! There is a World Market in Houston where we used to live but the closest one here in Iowa is Des Moines so I was online yesterday making a "shopping list"

I'm getting tim tams, caramel crowns, maltesers and a few other things. Wish they sold cordial. Still need to order that from an Aussie food site online

What about vegemite? :rofl:

Interview passed!! We were waiting for an hour before being called, and my stomach was in knots! The interviewer was so kind and friendly! The questions asked were:

What is one right of freedom from the 1st amendment.

Name one branch or part of the government.

Who is in charge of the executive branch.

In what month do we vote for President?

If both the President and the Vice President can no longer serve, who becomes President?

Who signs bills to become laws?

All questions answered correctly so stopped there.

Reading test was Which state has the most people?

Writing test was something like California has the most people.

So relieved to be done with this part and can't wait for the oath ceremony to make it official. Good luck to everyone still waiting! We will be cheering you on and hoping to see lots of approvals this month and in the future!

Quick question: What evidence of bonafide marriage and continued co-inhabitation with your spouse did they ask you to bring to the interview? And did they ask for any of it?

I entered the US with a Tourist Visa and overstayed until 2010 when i finnally received a Green Card through Marriage.

during my illegal time, i renewed my driver's license twice, and the last time in 2005, i accidentally registered to vote.

Now, im getting ready to apply to my citizenship, and i read a story on Change.org about a woman that did the same, and she is now in deportation status.

I registered to vote, however, i never voted. Im woundering if i should reconsider this and not apply to become a citizen and just stay here with a Green Card.

If anyone know anything to this topic, let me know.

How did they not find out about this when you applied for AOS in 2010? Do the experts on the board know if the background checks for AOS are less extensive than the background checks for N400? In theory, you are not even eligible for LPR if you register to vote. In fact you are immediately deportable. Can you explain how this "accident" happened? Did you not fill out the form by hand and attest that you are a citizen? Or did some DMV staffer electronically affix your signature without you filling out the form by hand?

This distinction may be the only thing that can save you. After a long battle...

San Francisco is definitely ahead of the game when it comes to processing N-400 applications. A friend went for her interview last month and had her oath taking a week after her interview. Now THAT is efficient!! Crossing my fingers mine goes just as smoothly! Good luck with your N-400. Just a side note..do an early bio it definitely helps move things along a little faster! (It did for my husband and I anyway lol)

Well I can understand your worry. I brought this up to an immigration attorney who is very well known. He told me you cant worry about every little thing you filled out. If you did not vote or register to vote, or lie to a border officer or something like that you should be OK. I asked about I-9 form as well he told me if something like that happen to an LPR who did nothing to defraud but just ticked wrong box specially with the old form that had boxes close together. He said there is no intent. What would be the benefit. Just his words not mine.

Is this really how they interpret the false claim to US citizenship law - focus on major things like voting, registering to vote, lying for entry to US, applying for a job that only citizens are eligible for, etc?

How much experience does this lawyer have?

People on VJ atleast seem pretty paranoid about this and DO worry about every little thing they filled out. I tend to be a bit of a worry-wart on these things too so it would be good to know how strict the interpretation is.

I noticed a slowdown as soon as DACA applications were being accepted on Aug 15. Just see what happens to completions on I-751s from Aug onward http://dashboard.uscis.gov/index.cfm?formtype=15&office=2&charttype=1

There is a real drop in processing volume. From USCIS perspective ROCs are low priority since the applicants already have LPR status. That's fair enough. But they could make our lives easier by issuing a temporary GC that shows the one year extended expiry date. The NOA1 letter is not universally recognized and I had problems with airlines, employer, etc.

Also, statements in the press by USCIS prior to August do not at all tally with what they did. The statements said that with the fees paid by DACA applicants they will go out and hire new officers to process those applicants, so approvals will not begin until this new hiring is complete. But they began processing the applications as soon as they were submitted. The reality is that there was an election coming up and there was probably subtle pressure on USCIS from the White House to process these applications so that voters were convinced that this was a serious program that actually yielded legal status. There can be no explicit interference in USCIS activities for political reasons but there has and always will be implicit political pressures on the agency.

At the end of the day, we are in a better position than all of those young people who had no status at all.

Just got back from the post office to drop off the N-400 package. It should be there by Monday. Can someone add me to the list? Mailed on 1/4/13 to Phoenix; local office San Jose, CA. Thanks! I know this is supposed to be the easiest part of the process, but it really stressed me out. I think because there were so many questions to answer and some not so clear since the filing is based on 3 years of marriage/residence and not 5. The forms aren't really tailored to that difference. Also, we had a big hassle getting the tax transcripts. I requested them online and waited 2 1/2 weeks without result, requested by phone but didn't want to wait any longer. Finally yesterday was able to get a live person on the phone (after 2 hours) and requested them by fax. It cost $18 at the copy store, but at least the package is in the mail today. Good luck everyone! Hope to see lots of familiar faces here! January seems to be our month. We filed AOS, ROC, and N-400 all in January.

Question for you and any other 3 yr rule, marriage based filers. Did you send just tax return transcripts or did you send in additional evidence of bonafide marriage for the last 3 years? I realize that the doc checklist is pretty clear in its wording but I also see that people are asked for more evidence of bonafide marriage at the interview on many occasions. So, I was wondering if I can head off those early by including more marriage evidence in the initial packet. Or maybe it doesn't really matter if you send more than they ask for in the initial packet... lol my writing reflects my confusion :bonk:
