  1. Thank you Enigma11561 and Little_My for your responses. :)

Little_My, I find your experience especially interesting since you left after the AOS interview. Often it's said here that the AP becomes obsolete after the GC is issued and so a I-1551 stamp is needed in case a trip is planned before the GC is acquired. So it's great to hear that yo had no issues using AP even though the GC was already issued by the time you came back (but not in your possession).

  2. I know many here file for Advance Parole while filing the I-485.

I am curious about the experiences of those who actually used the advance parole document.

So I was was wondering, how was the re-entry process? Did you have to go to a secondary area? What documents did you present besides the advance parole document? (AOS NOA, marriage certificate, etc)

Did you have a period of unlawful stay in between the I-94 expiration and AOS filing (assuming less than 180 days)? If so, did that come up?

I'd appreciate anyone sharing their advance parole related experience. Thanks! :energy:

  3. I'm always cracked up by the concept of being so in love with someone that you can't wait to get them to the US, but not having the money ready when they get here to keep them legally in status. And the concept that having a foreign born loved one detained but not deported is "minimal".

Aside from a near-death situation, I can't think of one good reason for the US citizen not to have money in the bank for AOS before their fiance gets here.

Ten visits to Tokyo in under 3 years including a visit to attend the K1 interview and then another visit to pick her up, not to mention paying all fees associated with the wedding ceremony, did it for me.

Of course in reality that only may have delayed our application by a week at most. Don't know why we waited 1.5 months after we got our marriage certificate to file for AOS. We probably would have had everything completed by now considering her POE was in June. :(

  4. If it is so bad why does everyone want to come here?

My wife has told me on numerous occasions that if it weren't for me, she'd be on the first flight back to Tokyo.

This topic reminds me of another thread from a few months ago. The question there was how did you decide whether to move to the US or the country of the beneficiary. And to be blunt, the discussion was mostly centered around UK,Canada, etc. I can imagine for some countries this question would be akin to asking would you keep a winning lottery ticket or throw it away.

For many here, the decision to move to the US was a difficult one and it has nothing to do with the fact that it's "so bad here." Naturalizing doesn't really add much benefit (I'll vote twice ;) ) and closes a lot of doors in the future. For example, we may retire and move to Japan in the future. :energy:

  5. it was really just a joke answer.. but then its not a joke if i have to explain it.. :)

I'm not sure why everyone poo poos dury duty.

My company literally pays for unlimited jury duty.

So last time I got a jury notice I did everything I could to get picked on the jury. I answered my questions in such a way that both side's lawyers would pick me.

So court started, and we were in session for about 40 minutes, then a break, and then another 30 minutes. Of course that was too much already so we called it quits before noon.

Not a bad way to work an 8 hour day.

  6. This part bother me: "she knew eventually i was gonna leave her...so she basically came here to get pregnant so she could always keep me with her since we had a child together..." You basically admit that you were with her for fraudulent reasons... Maybe it's the English barrier but honestly without help I really don't know what you can do. Unfortunately it would require money.

I couldn't take the original poster seriously after reading that gem.

Being a father entails more than being a sperm donor.

I can understand the usage of "our child" but being a father is more than being a sperm donor and I don't see any "my child" about this situation.

You are such an egotistical scumbag.

" she wanted to always have me with her so she came here to get pregnant"? Really? Who do you think you are? Grow the hell up,you're 23. Cases like this are the reason its getting harder and harder to get visas here in middle east and africa

    You can say that again.

  7. Hello everyone!

I'm glad to join this thread..yey!

Anyhows, after 8months of marriage, we have finally completed our requirements and will be sending our application (i-485, i-130, i-864, i-131, i-765) this week...but before that, i just have some questions..

    1. Would there be a problem if we are just filing for my adjustment of status, after 8 months?

it is actually because, we were waiting for his naturalization copy all this time only to find out that as long as he have a US passport, it is not necessary to submit the naturalization certificate

    There should be no problems.

    2. We got married in february, my i-94 expired in march..can i still apply for a travel document even if i overstayed (but married) for 7months already?

I would advise against it, since an overstay of more than 180 days would trigger a 3 year ban upon reentry.

    3. If I would apply for a travel document (i-131), what should i apply for - a reentry permit or an advance parole?

It would have been advance parole.

    4. Is USCIS particular with pictures? i asked for a passport-sized picture, i didn't realize that their passport size is 2x2..mine is 1.5x2 or 2x1.5..hmp..

Can't say for sure. They might accept it.

    5. Is it necessary for him to submit a birth certificate? he was born in the Philippines but now holds a US passport.

    No

    6. I have two first names - MARY GRACE, i would want to retain that name..and make my maiden last name - my middle name..and my last name - married name..is it possible? because i heard that you can only have one-word first name, then middle name of your choice and of course your married name..what can i do i love my name :)

Multiple first names are uncommon. You have the option to your hyphens which to be honest looks storage to me, but it may work here. FirstFirstname SecondFirstname MaidenName-MarriedName. This is not common so you will have to check with the marriage license rules where you will apply.

    7. How many G-1145 do i have to submit? clip one with every different form or just attach one for all the forms?

    One

    8. Is there a certain format in arranging this package/packet?

Put them in any order you like and reference them in order on the table of contents page.

THANKS GUYS!!! Love u all and good luck to us!

  8. I understand that this question on I 134 probably don't apply to K1s (this is more for student visas and others) where a school sets a specific amount needed to be shown. But I'm not sure if we should leave it blank, or mark N/A to this. I found under examples on this site, that you can just answer this question by saying "N/A" and then explain below something along the lines : "K-1 visa process for permanent residence (Sponsor will provide all expenses as necessary when he arrives. We will reside at sponsor's residence at the address mentioned above until we get married soon after his arrival and will continue to live there after we get married. It is my intention to support the needs of the household and both our financial needs until my future husband receives his EAD and starts working"

This is what my fiance is suggesting we should type under the explanation section.

Has anyone done something like this, if so have you checked INTEND and then the explanation or have most of you just put N/A for this question along with some sort of explanation?

    I'd really appreciate your help.

    Thanks,

    Ashley :help:

The title should probably be question #11.

I did exactly what was stated in the example form without checking either of the boxes.

    "N/A ( K1 visa process for permanent residence )"
