I'm no immigration expert but I think he will need to check into the visa laws of Australia to determine what sort of visa, if any he will need. He will have no trouble returning to the US with his passport and green card but he needs to check into Visa laws for visiting Australia. Yep, the notice that you receive first is teh letter authorizing travel and work for one year after greencard expires. Once you have that in hand, you are good to go to plan your holiday!
One last question. On the receipt that they'll send me once they receive the packet is a notice that my stay is extended one year and that I can travel in the meantime - is that correct? We are hoping to take a trip to visit my family in Canada in July, but I want to make sure I have the paper saying I can travel before we buy the tickets.

I received my NOA yesterday! I'm pretty happy because my best friend is getting married this summer and I want to be able to go to her wedding, without any worries. The date on the NOA was May 18, 2010.

I'm new to this forum. Just found it while cruising the internet. I was an AOS Conditional Resident as I was already in the US as a student. I was granted CR on August 7, 2010. Just want to get my information posted and see how other cases are progressing. Sent I-751 package on May 15, 2010, check was cashed on May 20. I have not received NOA1 yet. Hopefully soon!

Happy Canada Day to you as well. I am also Canadian. Tonight, my husband and I are hosting a small party for Canada Day complete with a Canada Flag cake! Should be fun.
