Severina got a reaction from Mrs O. in Time to file for ROC - I have some worries/sleepless nights
Thanks for your answer Dave. You just reminded me that my husband has indeed signature authority over my account. Have to contact the bank. I also have to look into the emergency contact. Another thing we were thinking about is having a living will and last will. In my opinion that's pretty strong. I mean if I trust my husband with my life in case I am sick that's strong prove. Who would do that for a fake spouse. You could have an accident tomorrow and be a vegetable.

Well, getting the SSN was no problem at all. First one in my maiden name and after we got married we went to the SSA and had the name changed. My husband's health insurance accepted me on the day we got married. Driver license was easy. The only problem I had was with my husband's credit union. I wanted to open an account there and at that point I still had the social security card which says
    valid for work only
    with authorization of the DHS
The clerk checked this with her supervisor and she came back and said "Sorry, we can't give you an account cause you Social Security Card is for work only". I couldn't believe it. I tried to explain but she wouldn't understand . I was so embarrassed for these people, their ignorance was really painful. So we left and I got an account with another credit union. Honestly I didn't want these people to work with my money .

Severina got a reaction from Harpa Timsah in language barrier at airport
Well, if I was you I would send my mother some notes in English explaining her situation. For instance all the flight details so that she can ask someone for the way to the gate etc.. There are always info counters at every airport and even if she doesn't speak English I'm sure that there's a way to explain her where she has to go. Maybe she gets lucky and another person from Egypt can translate for her. What is also really important is that you write a letter for her for the immigration officer in the US. The last time when I entered the US I noticed that there were some old people from India (I think) and they didn't speak any English. The officer was asking other people in the waiting line if they could translate. I myself helped a German couple who didn't speak English. So when it was my turn I talked to the IO about how difficult it must be to deal with people who don't speak any English and she said it would make their lives so much easier if the relatives who live in the US would provide their family members with a letter explaining who they are going to visit, where they live, how long they intend to stay, etc.. I thought this was a quite helpful information in case my parents ever wanted to visit me here in the US. So I wouldn't worry too much. Make it as easy for your mom as possible and keep in mind that airports are full of foreigners who speak all kinds of languages, the staff there is trained to help. Good luck!

    Hey Mike,
I find your posts most refreshing and inspiring. Well, I'm not such a young German gal (43 yrs) any more but still I have made the decision to leave my home and country to live in the US. My fiance and I had been friends for 23 years before we madly fell in love 2 years ago. It was hard to make the decision to leave I admit it especially since my parents are getting old now and I have no siblings. There are times when I'm still overwhelmed by guilt. My parents took it well if you can say that. Of course, I could tell that they were worried when I came back from my trip to Michigan 2 years ago much happier than I had been when I was leaving . At first I was sure I couldn't leave but then it was my parents who told me to go cause they want me to be happy. It touches me when they tell me that they don't want me to be lonely when they will be gone some day. I know it's an incredible sacrifice for them and for this I love them all the more. In addition to that I got only support from my friends. EVERYBODY told me to leave Germany and be happy. Might be also because everybody loves my fiance and that no one can really say that we are rushing things . So we filed for K1 at the end of June and are waiting...
I can really relate to what you say about your job. I feel that I'm stuck in a treadmill every day. By now I just HATE being an executive secretary . I'm going to America because of my fiance who I love dearly (before that I wouldn't have thought about immigrating to the US, not even in wildest dreams ) but I'm also looking at it as a chance to start a completely new life. I hope I will find work which I will like and which will satisfy me. I studied languages, English and Spanish to be precise and I'm sure that this will work in my favor. Maybe I can even be a language teacher, anything is better than what I have now. A little bit I'm still believing in the American dream and in the quality of the famous German efficiency .
So yeah I will go for it! We will see what will happen. In the end it's a big adventure

Oh no! Did you refer to a supplemental letter on your I-129F? We just wrote in a sentence or 2 how we met and then included evidence. If you explained it enough on the form, you should be okay!
Good news from me...A sent the petition back on Saturday and it got there this morning. Waiting on the NOA1 again...hopefully we didn't screw anything else up!
I couldn't believe A forgot to include the I-129F after we filled it out together in May...I told him I'm doing all the AOS/RoC/SSN stuff once I move there!
