Hi all hope all is well! My hubby moved on a CR-1 visa in May and he's in Canada visiting right now and he'll be coming back next week. We were wondering is he allowed to move more of his personal things with him, or was that a one time thing when he did his POE? If he can, what would he tell the customs people? and if he can't and he has to bring a little bit, does anyone know the limit (dollar wise) of how much he can bring? Thankyou!

Hey everyone, hope all is well. I have a few questions about financial aid. Now my hubby recently moved to the U.S. in July 2011 on a CR1 visa. And he got his greencard & social security card (yay =) ) He is currently visiting family in Canada for a couple months for the holidays and will be back in January. (missing him) Anyways I decided to go back to school for 2012 and I'm looking into filing for financial aid, now im a U.S. citizen, im the sponsor and my hubby is the benf. My parents were co-sponsors because I didn't have a job during the immigration process. Am I allowed to apply for financial aid?
We are currently living with my parents, but I do my own taxes and I am independent. I have done my own taxes for 4/5 years. I just turned 24 in October. And I heard if you are 24 you are considered independent for the FASFA form. I don't want to llie on any forms. Even if I am married and considered independent do I have to add my parents in the # of household question?
Hopefully someone else has been through this and knows some answers to my questions. Thanks!

http://ssa.gov/ssnumber/ss5.htm I would take an already filled out one with ya to help speed up ur office visit!! They can be busy places, so it can be advisable to go early!!
Thanks you guys! I am just looking over the application...its pretty short. got a couple questions though.
#2. social security number previously assigned to the person listen in item 1
- do we just ignore that one or put N/A.
#5. Citizenship? would his be "legal alien allowed to work" or other?
#9. parents social security number....his parents live in Canada so does he check unknown for both?
My husband and I have been married 2years and two days now lol but when he did his POE it was under 2yrs so he got issued a temporary green card that expires in 2yrs and we have to apply for the 10yr. SO its still okay for him to visit Canada with a temporary gc..they will let him back in the U.S. after his vacation ?

Hi all...it's been a few months since I have been on visa journey. Hope all is well! My hubby moved and has been settling in California. Yesterday was our 2 year anniversary and we spent a couple days in San Franisco...nice weather there! He got his green card after about a month and 2weeks. But not his social security card yet. So we will go to the office tommorow and request one. I'm guessing all we need to take is his green card and passport?
Also my hubby wants to visit his family back in Canada before the holidays for a few weeks, is he allowed to go visit and come back? Or does he have to stay in the U.S. for a certain period of time before he can make any trips. Thankyou all!

Hello! Does anyone have any information on moving with Gold coins, Gold Buillon, Silver & Copper? My hubby is a collector and we have tried calling the u.s. customs toronto pre clearnace area but no one will pick up. I do know if he goes over 10,000 he will have to declare it on a form 105. But can he take his Gold, and coin collection....how would he value it? What he paid for it or the face value. For example he bought a gold coin for $1,200 but the face value is $50.
Thanks!

Congrats! So happy for you...my hubby is doing his POE this coming Saturday!!! soo nervous.

Not yet! doing is POE in a week! Still Soo nervous. I pray everything will go okay. I miss him so much.
-
Thank everyoone! it's just the nerves acting up again. I can't wait to be with my baby soon! ahhh this is a dream come true.

Doesn't matter...the day before july 4th might be a tad busy or not. Just arrive early and he should give himself plenty of time to go through the POE process. We've been through the border on July 4th and it's been dead.
Did you do your POE of entry with your spouse? or they were alone. I really want to fly over there to be with him at the airport. I know it won't make a difference. I don't know I guess I'm just nervous. Do you think it makes a difference being there or not?
-
My hubby is going to do his POE at the end of this month...we really want to spend 4th of July together. Is doing his POE at Pearson on a Saturday or Sunday a problem...do you think it's busy? Whats the best day of the week to do this and is it better early in the morning or middle of the day or night? Or dosen't really matter.
ThankYou God Bles.

So I'm in Sacramento CA and I came from Toronto, Canada.
I passed through immigration and was processed in Toronto.
So when I'm filing my AOS forms do I put my port of entry as Sacramento or as Toronto?
Thanks guys
Congrats Shorah! My hubby is going too POE by the end of this month! We are nervous..any tips? How did it go, how were the officers, did they ask any questions?
-
Congratulations! Have a smooth POE. Just went through mine at Pearson and it took a big 15 minutes (at 9 AM)... now my 4 hours layover sounds way overkill!
Congrats on your POE! My hubby will be doing his shortly......how did it go? was everyone nice? We are nervous!
-
Don't worry everyone! I'm sure they are just waiting to send / or print out a whole bunch of visas all together! Plus it's the 1st of the month they are prob busy. I bet they will you guys will get your visas soon!
-
Honestly, no. He is either going to have trouble entering or not, you being there won't do anything.
Good luck, keep us all posted
Why don't they make the embassy & CBP on the same page, if one approves it then let it be at the airport. I guess being there would just make me feel better lol. I hope my call meant something. I did call them! I can't stress about this anymore.

Do you guys think it will help if I am there with my hubby, when he decides to move? I was thinking about flying back to help & be with him during the customs time?
-
When I put in my reference number at dhl.ca it comes up as "no record found for this reference number"
That happened to me on a weekends.....maybe even this weekend because it is Memorial weekend they have a day off or something, not sure, but it appread back on in a couple days!
-
I'm sorry that I didn't see this postings before, but I was just warning members of what might happen. I really pray that it doesn't happen to any one else.
I believe that it is indeed up to the CPB as to whether one can pass into the US or not. He does have a ob to do, but I think that if one is approved and everything was revealed at the interview, as mine was also. Then there shouldn't be any reasons for the CBP to deny one from entering the US.
Do you think there is a difference between the K-1 & CR-1 visa at the border crossing because one is an non-immigrant visa & the other is an immigrant visa?
-
Yup, that's exactly what I meant. The pre-clearance in Edmonton already knew everything about my past (trips, criminal issue, etc) because it was my home airport. Never once did they request that I had to file any type of waiver to enter as a visitor OR when I processed thru with my CR-1. So I suppose, *IF* the CBP officer that processes your hubby in, isn't aware of his background, it could potentially turn into a delay while they figure everything out. In my opinion, maybe he'll be delayed for a bit extra at POE. Ultimately tho, of course it's up to officers at his POE.
Good to see you too canadiandggal!
So because my hubbys home airport is YYZ and he's travled back & forth there, everytime he's ever travled they have all his past criminal info on the computer and they have seen it and still let him travel ? I'm just trying to understand this....OR his stuff was from 13yrs ago and its not showing up on the computer?

THe customs for IS the blue form, he'll know what to do if he has done it before
Good luck
HAHA OMG I understand now! I know which your talking about, I feel so silly lol. Yeah it is blue. Took me a good half hr to figure it out!
-
I think sweetcheeks means they had her on record, not an actual file. So if you've been traveling out of the same airport, they'll have a record of your entrances and exits
He'll have to fill out the customs form, the blue form, like he's done every time he's gone to the US, the'll surrender his envelope, they'll open it, go through it to make sure all the documents are there, and ask him a few questions. I was asked very simple ones about my marriage and relationship, reminded that I had to remove conditions, and was sent on my way. YYZ is a very professional and courteous POE - they are, however, also quite busy
Good luck
Sounds good thankyou! What is the blue form? He only fills out the customs form everytime he has visited. What kind of information is needed on that one?
-
Glad to see you are still around
I also agree with this, I had no problems until the interview and when I poed they never mentioned my "past". The only question they asked was if the address was correct
The lady I got circled and went through everything with me to, they cannot circle the "record part" as the interviewer needs to go over it. It did not make the POE look at my stuff anymore than anyone else.
Oh you think circle means they went through it & reviewed it already?
Thankyou everyone for your answers!

I did not POE through Pearson (my POE was Edmonton) and they (the CBP officers) wouldn't let me activate my visa until I was actually crossing. I had to fill in a customs declaration form, was sent to secondary and it took probably 45 mins for them to finish up all the paperwork. Not one time did they bring up my past criminal issue BUT every time I had crossed into the US I went thru Edmonton so they already had my file there.
Also, I never, EVER had to file any type of waiver to visit the US (not even as a non-immigrant) so my criminal past was never any type of issue for me. The only time it was an issue was during the final stage of my CR-1 process because the interviewing officer had misinterpreted the "petty theft" exclusion rules.
Good luck with everything, I'm sure your hubby will be fine. Truly, it's ultimately up to the POE officer but try not to stress too much.
What do you mean you went through Edmonton so they had your file there....like you have been to that airport and traveled in and out before? My hubby has been through Pearson a bunch of times...like more than 5 or 6. So they would have his file? So your DS-230 had yes under the "have you ever been arrested, charged, or convicted" and the people had to have seen it on your DS-230 in the airport and they didn't mention anything about it. I remember you saying you went to the airport to speak to the customs guy didn't you? I called them the other day and spoke to them.
The only thing that bugs me is during the interview time in Montreal the 1st person we saw apart from the lady who interviewd us, it was a man he was cool, but whipped out my hubbys DS-230 and said okay lets go through this together and marked with a pen like a little line on everything he went through....the address, my address, where he wrks, our #'s and then he asked a question about the being arrested stuff in the past then circled the # of that arrested question then jumped to another question.....but the interview lady did ask about it. But it's feels weird the fact that he circled it I feel like the CBP are gonna notice it even more now rather than the number not being circled. But when I talked to the man he was more concered about if we told the consulate, and the fact that we did and they gave he said we wouldn't have a problem, and they just want to know if he was convicted or not, and when I told him 3 of the charges were withdrawn he was fine with it.
so i dunno anymore.

Oo thanks so much! that is longer than we thought lol. I wonder what to write on the customs form or maybe the customs agent will know that he just immigrated and its personal things.
