  1. We can't believe it! We just received notice that Lisa's conditions are going to be removed! We can't believe how quickly it went!

We have been really lucky in this process. Besides a one month delay for her conditional green card because I forgot to sign one of my tax returns, everything has gone so fast. Even Lisa's interview in Guangzhou was less than 10 minutes, and she hasn't had a single interview since!

I KNOW I have this site to thank for much of how "lucky" we have been. I really don't believe we would have had any better results had we used a lawyer, and probably WORSE results because from how I've heard, they just don't pay as much attention to detail as all the great people on here. My packets have always looked as thick as textbooks, and I definitely wouldn't have thought of everything to include without this site.

Thanks everybody! I (Clay) can finally breathe a little easier knowing if some kind of freak accident happened, Lisa wouldn't be deported. But now I better be an extra attentive husband so she doesn't realize she's way too good for me, lol.

    Clay and Lisa

Congratulations! So happy for you both.

  2. I've updated my Adobe reader and everything else opens, but I can't get the example forms for the I-485 and the I-131 to open. I get an error message no matter which computer I try this from. Has anyone else had this problem? Could anyone that can open them take a screen shot for me?

    Thanks so much.

Nevermind, finally got them to open on my husband's laptop (which is about seven years older than my computer, annoyingly)!

  3. Part 3 A of the I-485 requests the Nonimmigrant Visa Number, followed by the Consulate Where Visa Was Issued (London). The sample I-485 form shows this as an 8-digit number, but I'm not finding any number on my husband's visa or I-94 that corresponds with this. There's the Control Number, his A- number, his passport number, and a bunch of numbers and letters along the bottom of the visa. Can anyone tell me where I find his nonimmigrant visa number?

    Thanks!

  4. lol! We got the green card in-hand last June. I was stressed out about filing for ROC early 2012, but somehow I got pregnant and am due this summer.

Now I'm not too stressed because our finances and lives have gotten so co-mingled it's almost depressing. Our budgets and household info is on bank statements and spreadsheets I've made.. not going to be hard to prove we have a legitimate relationship at all.

Woo hoo, congratulations! Summer birthdays are the best.

  5. We didn't bother with any of that. We just showed up and grabbed a blank application form. Because we didn't have a pen and they were all being used we didn't even begin to fill it out. When we got to the counter the guy said it didn't matter and pretty much processed it all off of the info in his UK passport and asked him a few identifying questions.

You were right, we didn't need a thing. Showed up early, first in line, out the door seven minutes later. I need to break out of paperwork-detail-stress mode now, since we have years of this to come.

  6. Take his birth certificate too. Just in case.

And don't wait too long. If you go 14 or fewer days prior to expiry of the I94, they won't issue a SS number until he has his greencard.

We're going first thing tomorrow morning to our local Social Security office, we have our forms filled out and all our necessary papers/birth certificates/IDs, but one question: on this VJ page with step-by-step instructions for getting a SSN (http://www.visajourney.com/content/ssn), it says "Print the following webpage out (K-1 Visa Holder Only); pay attention to section C: RM 00203.500." But when I click on the link for RM 00203.500, I get an error message every time ("Error 404 - HTTP Web Server: Lotus Notes Exception - Entry not found in index"). Any idea what form RM 00203.500 is/says and are we okay to go without it?

  7. Okay, we slacked a bit longer, but now I'm on it. A question: I was reading that we can file for his SSN now, before his I-94 expires, and thought maybe we could go in person next week, when I go and apply for my new card with my married name. I followed the link on the VJ guides about doing so. But #5 on document SS-5.pdf states:

"If you check “Legal Alien Not Allowed to Work” or “Other,” you must provide a document from a

U.S. Federal, State, or local government agency that explains why you need a Social Security number

and that you meet all the requirements for the government benefit. NOTE: Most agencies do not require

that you have a Social Security number. Contact us to see if your reason qualifies for a Social Security

    number."

Do we need a letter? I thought this might be helpful for when I file my 2010 taxes, since we got married at the end of 2010. Should we just wait and send all our forms off together, and not go to the SS office in person? I'm more than a bit confused.

  8. We've been married for a month today... we allowed ourselves a few weeks off and then the holidays happened, so now it's time to get this show on the road. I'm hoping it won't be as painful, since we have most of the info already. Just writing that $1070 check sounds like the hardest part at the moment!

  9. You'll fill out a customs declaration on the plane. It's white with a blue border on top. Some airlines have gone electronic on ESTA now and no I-94Ws (geen form) are passed out on the plane. Continental changed over last summer. My husband's daughter said they didn't pass out any cards, but maybe they have I-94s (white card) if you ask. The check-in desk also had a pile last time we flew. And if that fails, the immigration people would have I-94s at POE. Be sure to get an I-94.

Thanks everyone! I knew you guys would have the answer.

  10. Visa is in hand, and we've booked our flights back to the US (I leave this week, he follows a few days later). We got a message from British Airways asking for us to fill in additional passenger info, and there's also a section that says:

"A US Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA) is required for all non-US passport holders travelling on the Visa Waiver Programme. If you have not already done so, please complete ESTA details for all passengers."

    https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/esta.html?_flowExecutionKey=_cF6069873-2880-B527-B2AD-E5316DC1ED97_kC903DABA-467E-FF12-7659-42F67D8C9462

My question is, since he's entering with a K1 visa, not on the Visa Waiver Program, does he need to fill this out before his flight? What about the landing card they hand out in-flight?

  11. I just got my interview date, it's on December 15.

Such a long wait, we posted Packet 3 on 25th August. We'll be cutting it very close, the lease on our flat runs out on Dec. 20 and we really want to get to the US by Christmas. Seems like a logistical nightmare.

What is the fastest the visa can be delivered after the interview? Don't even want to think about the possibility of something going wrong and being delayed even longer.

We had our interview last Wednesday, and the visa was delivered today. I think most people recently have been averaging about a week from interview to delivery.

    That's fantastic news, congratulations!!

Thank you! Here's hoping you get some good news soon as well.

  12. I'm sure you'll hear something in the next day or so. Save the energy that you have left over now for any action that you think might possibly arise. I know how drained you must be feeling right now :(

Just got wonderful news: called DOS again, and the woman said, "I have good news for you: his visa was printed today and should be delivered in the next few days!" WHOOOOPEEE! We are so relieved and happy I could weep.

  13. Any news on your visa? And thank you!

Nothing yet... we're still within the normal processing times of it being approved and sent, so there's nothing we can do at the moment but wait. Yesterday was very panic attacky, but we've tried to calm down and hope for the best and be ready to prepare for the worst. It's just the not knowing that's the worst... it was so amazing to finally have a few days of joy after these past 7 months of living in limbo, so it's heartbreaking to be back to that again. Hopefully we'll hear something soon. Thanks for asking.
