  1. Wife just called....APPROVED!!!! (its the 22nd in india)

Oh my heart is racing and my face hurts from grinning! Im so happy!

They didnt ask my wife much. I think they threw her a trick question. They asked her when I moved to the U.S... answer is that i was born and raised in the U.S. Wife said the american lady became happy after she gave the answer. Then just asked what I did for a living and wanted to see few wedding pictures. Thats all.

    :dance::dance: :dance: :dance:

  2. I would strongly advise you to march over to the SS office right away and apply for one. The box on the DS-230 is not the most reliable. Also it takes ages for the info to process.

So you really should do it yourself. I did that on the Monday after I arrived and had my SS Card 4 days later. Granted it was only a name change since I already had one from a previous J1 visa, but it WILL definitely be faster if you apply in person.

2 Days later I got my driving license. I'm glad we got everything so fast by being proactive.

My wife has never had a SSN, can she still apply at the SS office right away without issues?

  3. Hello people

I could easily get the passport clearance certificate from Ahmedabad office without the checklist or interview letter

If you have a document cover sheet showing your AOS bill or DS-230 bill as paid along with the barcode, your name and the NVC Address it will be just fine.

So the thing is you just have to show your document cover sheet and they will let you in.

Atleast when i went they needed only the coversheet.

After going through the documents they will send the PCC at your home address in less than 4 working days.

I'd suggest everyone to atleast give a try and save your month waiting for an RFE and then going to get the PCC.

    Goodluck

Yep this worked for my wife as well. From the looks of it some people have good luck with it and others dont.

I'd suggest everyone at least TRY this way. Its worth trying.

  4. It looks like you are the first Dec interview guy here. How was your recent India trip, Jesal?

    Loto

Thanks everyone! And congrats to all those who made it for December. Im sure this thread will grow more in the coming days.

I am still in india. Plan on coming back to the U.S next week. Was debating on staying longer if the wife had an early Dec interview but that didnt happen. Kinda sad about that.

BUT, beggars cant be choosers, right? ;)

At least this gives us some time to prepare for the interview.

  5. Nevermind. I called back and talked to a nice lady who explained more.

Guess before when they emailed me the checklist letter it was just for the corrections on the DS230 form even though in the same email it was asking for proof of relationship with sponsor.

There was only ONE checklist response barcode letter in the email. So i sent in both things they asked for under that barcode. That screwed up the case at NVC i guess. They wont separate the two and want me to mail in my birth certificate again but this time with MY 864 barcode coverletter.

Goodbye early november interview date.

  6. I called the AVR today and it states im missing documents from my 864. :crying:

I called to talk to an operator and they said they are missing documents to show my relationship to my cosponsor (mom). But I sent in my birth certificate along with the DS230 that needed to be corrected 3 weeks ago. Both was part of the RFE btw.

How did they receive the DS230 corrections but not see the birth certificate of mine?!!? It was in the same envelope!

So uh yea, they said to call back after a week once the supervisor reviews it. This is gonna take awhile isnt it. :(

  7. Im actually really happy to hear they werent allowing DCF during March-July.

I had so many people complain to me that im doing it the long way and i should have just stayed for 3 months in India. Then i started to feel bad and had regret. Now knowing that it was impossible for me to do it in March makes me feel MUCH better.

Guess the advice I received in india wasnt exactly wrong. Some told me Delhi stopped allowing DCF and others told me they still doing it. Guess they were both right, just wrong timing.

  8. Hi folks, in India now the residency requirement for USC to file a petition is only 3 Months now. After filling petition USC can go back to USA and start his/her work.So there is no need to prove them that USC has the reason to move back to USA. After moving back to USA, USC can start the work of Affifavit of support. And there is no additional documnts ,proofs require in DCF. Its the same process like u do in general CR-1 process by USCIS. The main thing in DCF is ,there is no word like NVC .Whole process handled by local consulate. Oh and if u doing in gujarat, india then to get PCC from ahmedabad there is no HEADCHE in DCF,because u have already interview letter in hand.

So i dont think so there is any complexity in DCF.Its nice smooth and quick process.

Where were you when i started this process! I totally would have done the DCF route if i had known.

Problem is there isnt enough information out there for us indians on this topic. Everyone kept giving me different advice at the time so i was too scared to stay in India for 3 months just to get denied at the end.

Speaking of which, i recall that happening to someone here. Let me search for that thread...
