  1. Hi Vizzle,

I assume you're applying for a K-1 visa as you've posted in the K-1 thread, but your profile just says N/A...

The DS-160 seems to be causing some confusion, as the London embassy website states that it has replaced the DS-156 for all non-immigrant visas, yet it also indicates that this does not apply for K-1 visas (K visas are not included on the list of non-immigrant visas that the 160 relates to - http://london.usembassy.gov/cons_new/visa/niv/index.html ).

Common sense would dictate that if you sent in the exact documents (i.e. 156) as specified in your Packet 3 letter, this will be accepted by the embassy and there would be no requirement to change this. This is just my opinion though, I can't speak from experience yet i'm afraid.

Unfortunately the wait time for interviews seems to be a couple of months minimum at the moment, we're still waiting for Packet 3 and it's just so frustrating that even when I complete and return it, there will still be a long wait ahead to get an interview. Good luck, i'm sure you'll be fine with what you've sent and I hope you get your interview date soon.

  2. Yes, you can, but it is upto the immigration officer at POE as to whether you will be allowed into the US.

Take evidence with you that you have intent to return to the UK - a letter from your employer is good to start with, recent mortgage statement, return plane ticket and anything else that ties you to the UK. Also a copy of the NOA2 & Embassy packet 3 letter to show you are applying for a K1, shows you're not trying to hide anything.

  3. Hi,

I'm actually going through London, so I can't advise on Canada requirements, but the following link is for the Vancouver Embassy page on VJ - should tell you which forms are required, as well as provide links to the embassy webpage where you can find the current information:

    http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/index.php?ctry=Canada&cty=Vancouver

Hope this helps, and good luck!

  4. Hi there,

We're willing to help if we can, but we need some more information:

    1. What kind of visa are you applying for? I assume K-1 as you're posted in the K-1 thread.

    2. Which country is the beneficiary from? There are different requirements and timescales for each country

    3. Which one of you is the beneficiary, and which is the US Citizen? I assure you are the beneficiary, as you refer to 'my interview'.

    4. Please also fill in your timeline so we can get a full picture of where you are in the process and maybe give you an indication of how long things might take.

    Thanks!

  5. Yes, London will use the NVC case number (hence the first three letters - LDN). The NVC is under the Dept of State, as is the consulate - which is why you get a new case number once you move from the Dept of Homeland Security to Dept of State (via the NVC).

Brilliant - so I can use this case number to book my medical, I assume.

    Thanks for that Tracy!

  6. Hi All!

Does anyone know if the NVC case number (which I have) will be the same number that the London Embassy will use, or will the Embassy assign a different case number altogether?

I ask because i'm impatient and want to book my medical already - the embassy received our package yesterday but I of course don't have packet 3 yet. If the case number remains the same as the NVC, I can book the medical, and if not, well I guess i'll have to wait a little longer....

Thanks in advance for your help - apologies if this is in the wrong place.....sorry moderators!

  7. Obviously I don't know if it's your real name. If it is, it's just really cool and instantly memorable.

If it's not, it brilliantly sums up the immigration process (as do many other words, not all polite!).

Haha, cool, well thanks again! It is in fact my real name... Mike Strain, pleased to make your acquaintance! It's Irish, and not all that common. 14 is my 'lucky' number, hence the username :)

  8. Oh no, I hate it when that happens! Well, rest assured I appreciate the effort and the advice. We're going to go down the co-sponsor route just in case, so that we're as fully prepared as possible. I'll go and check out the London interview thread, cheers for the heads-up.

Okay, so an update: Simone just got made permanent! She starts a permanent job Monday, and is well over the required 125%.

Thanks again guys for your input, it really is appreciated and makes this whole process a lot easier.

  9. Hehe, thanks, I gave you a reputation too. :)

It is very aggravating, right near the end. I keep telling myself this is only a few more weeks out of what's been five years, but something makes the last stages seem all the harder and longer. Reading people's posts, I get the feeling we're not the only ones.

We were told that the GP will get the records next week. (1 week)

My fiance will be back in Northern Ireland and able to schedule an appointment the week after. (1 week)

After his appointment, his results need to be sent back to Knightsbridge. (1 day)

Then Knightsbridge will send them to the embassy (3-4 days?)

Then the embassy will send us a visa (6-10 days?)

Hopefully no more delays will happen. I sure wish we'd done the medical further in advance...

    Hey Rito,

I didn't mean to seem insensitive by posting my 'Rail Strike Over' info right after your post...whoops. I just wanted to apologise for that.

I hope you guys get things sorted soon...I know the waiting is horrible, and then to see the light at the end of the tunnel and have another delay crop up must be more than frustrating...but stay positive - you've said it yourself, but it's worth repeating: You have waited this long, so a few more weeks, whilst frustrating, is definitely doable. You'll get there, and it will all be worth it. I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed for a speedy resolution.

  10. The Tube should be fine. Well, as fine as it ever gets, lol.

This is a National Rail unions strike rather than London Underground workers, so it will only affect national and local rail services. The Tube is covered by a different union so at least from that perspective he should be good.

I have my contingency plan in the form of a Megabus ticket that I really hope I don't have to use...the Megabus smells.

Agreed, the tubes should run fine, even if there are engineering works on certain lines there are plenty of ways to reach the same destination. If he's flying into Heathrow or London City, he can take the tube all the way. Gatwick / Luton / Stansted there are always the National Express coaches...don't quite smell as bad as the Megabus!

  11. Call NVC 001 202 663 1225 get the NVC case number (it will begin with LND). They can also tell you when they have sent your file to the embassy.

After the petition has left NVC - call DOS 001 202 663 1225 (press 1 then 0 to get a live operator). You will need your NVC case number, petitioners and beneficiary's dates of birth. They will tell you when the embassy has receive your case and when packet 3 has been sent out. It typically takes about a week to receive packet 3 from the date NVC says it has been sent (they use 2nd class mail!)

This is possibly the most perfect, succinct answer to any question ever asked, ever.

Thank you, Doghandler! You're going on my Xmas card list.

  12. Ah there's nothing like the announcement of a rail strike over your medical date when you have to get from Leeds to London...sigh.

And I was supposed to be going away with British airways this weekend too!! Lol

Oh damn...we do love a good strike or three in the UK. BA, Civil Service, Railways...i'm surprised any of us are working at all!

  13. Hi all - we got our NOA2 Text & Email on Wednesday, so please add Mike & Simone to the 'Between NOA2 & P3' List!

Good luck to everyone still waiting for interview dates or attending interviews soon, and congratulations to everyone with something to celebrate, whether that be the NOA2 or the Visa itself :)

Oh, and this may be a silly question...but how do I check that the NVC / Embassy have received / sent our docs? Thanks all!

  14. Ugh, I had this whole nice reply typed out and then wiped it by hitting the wrong button.

    Here's the highlights.

    - Agree: She may be permanent by the time you interview (in about 2 months) so this may be a moot point.

    - Agree: Line up a cosponsor to hold in reserve if she is still temp. You don't have to turn in the papers for the cosponsor at the interview, but if they say they need more financial information, you can present it immediately at that time.

    - Additional comment: Check out the 2010 London interview thread in the UK regional subforum. We tried to capture on the first page all the "quirks" for London and the slight differences in the forms and such.

Oh no, I hate it when that happens! Well, rest assured I appreciate the effort and the advice. We're going to go down the co-sponsor route just in case, so that we're as fully prepared as possible. I'll go and check out the London interview thread, cheers for the heads-up.

  15. Temp job? Get a co-sponsor.

If she can get a letter from the employer stating it's a "permanent" job - and she meets the required poverty level, then you will not need a co-sponsor.

It's really up to the embassy if they will accept the co-sponsor, or the temp to perm job.

(they look for long term support)

Ok, good to hear it from someone else too, because my instinct tells me it would be wise to get a co-sponsor, so thanks for your thoughts. It's supposed to become a perm job after a few months, so maybe she can talk to them and get an idea of when that might be. Even if she does become permanent right away, for example, do you think it's still wise to get a co-sponsor? You mention we won't need to, but I'm simply thinking of the short length of service as a permanent employee.

  16. Hi all,

We just got our NOA2 yesterday, so that's one stage done - in the words of Jay-Z, 'on to the next one'!

As far as the I-134 goes, my fiancee Simone is the USC, graduated from college May 09 (Cal, Go Bears!), and after visiting me during the summer she returned home & started a part time job at the GAP for a couple of months. In December, she took a Full-Time Temp-to-Perm position with Wells Fargo earning around $600 a week before taxes.

Now, her earnings mean she meets the required poverty levels etc, however because she is still techinically a Temporary Worker and has only been working full-time since December, I wondered whether this might be a negative. She also doesn't have any form of Tax Return information from previous years.

So, opinions please - will we be ok with just Simone's I-134, or should we get a co-sponsor to be safe? I have searched pages and pages on the forums but nothing seems to fit our situation properly....so many thanks for everyone's patience, especially if information is being repeated from previous posts.
