  1. can the medical be done any where other than Montreal or TOronto? I live in New Brunswick (hubby in Maine) and I dont want to have to make 2 trips to Toronto... What about doing it in the US?

Why not just make a week's vacation out of it and do the medical and interview in the same trip? That's what the hubby and I are planning, since trying to get him from Edmonton to Montreal (or Toronto) twice is going to be way too insanely expensive.

  2. OP: You can start calling NVC in about a week, they might have your case number then. I'd call the AVR until it updates with your case number, then get in contact with an operator to give them your email addresses (yes, both yours and your hubby's). Giving them your emails opts you into electronic communication from NVC.

The NVC case number is the equivalent of your USCIS case number. The BIN (beneficiary id number) is only used with countries eligible for electronic processing. You will need the IIN (invoice id number) in order to log into the payment portal.

Email the NVC with the DS3032 after their first email to you, which will include a copy of the Choice of Agent form. You don't have to send that exact form, but use the template here on VJ.

You can delay on paying the fees. It's not going to harm the case any. Or, you can choose to pay the fees right away, and then delay on sending in the paperwork. (I personally did the latter.) Either way, it'll be fine.

  3. Well, not knowing where you are in the process ( :time: ) I'll try to answer best I can.

    1. Mail it during the NVC process after paying the IV invoice and printing out the barcode cover sheet.

    2. Yes. The applicant will sign the first part, but NOT the second.

    3. Not necessarily. Some do in order to get everything done and over with, but it's not required you do so.

  4. Why do they still recommend that you follow the I-130 with the I-129F then? Is there any circumstances where this is actually helpful?

Not sure who 'they' is referring to; but no, no circumstance where it is helpful due to the usual administrative closing of the K3 pathway. Whoever/wherever you got your information from is.. not completely wrong, as the K3 /can/ be filed for, it just no longer is a faster option of getting you reunited with your wife.

So the I129F is a complete waste of time in parallell with the I-130? I feel like this process is purposefully wasting my time at this point, and I'm still at the beginning of it all...

Agreeing with Penguin here, it's a waste of time. It shouldn't set you back too far in the process though. If you can make it through the waiting of the USCIS stage, you'll be fine. :)

  5. OP, the visa you applied for is the K3. It used to be faster than the *R-1, but that's no longer the case. Now, usually what happens is the I130 is pulled from the queue and tied with the I-129f. Both get sent together to the NVC which closes the K3 path and leaves the *R-1 path open.

Now, I'm not sure where you got this K3 gets to work faster idea from. K3, like K1 has to adjust status once you arrive in the States. That's more money and leaves you kicking around for about 4 months while your paperwork processes. The CR-1 will give you a 2-year green card when you enter the country, which means you can work once you get your social security number in approximately a month.

  6. Fair enough,

I'll get my statements and she'll get the police report. Now on my cover letter for the I-130 I wrote about wanting to move to the USA with my wife from Britain. Are they going to know it's a CR-1 visa? It won't be processed as a K-1 or whatever will it? I didn't know we fell into a couple categories.

Before you get the police report now, check to see how long it will be valid for. You don't want to get one which will expire in 6 months, as it must be valid at the time of the interview. But check with the consulate, I don't know the specific requirements for the UK.

As for your other question, yes, they'll know it's a CR-1 visa. You're filing for your wife, which means you're ineligible for the fiancee visa, the K1.

  7. Is it like P90X? A home DVD workout thingy? I tried the P90x about a year ago because my husband was doing it. I didnt really interest me and I ended up quitting after I developed tennis elbow from lifting weights that were too heavy for me. Yes yes, I know.. I am a weak sauce :(

Nope. It's a self-directed web-based type of thing. It's set up like this: You have 6 exercises (which they'll show you how to do) each day. Each exercise is done for 6 rounds of 20 seconds with a 10 sec rest between each set. Keep track of how many reps you do - there will be a minimum number of reps for you to win a fight. Win a set number of fights and you progress to the next level. Go to the website, it will explain it much better than I do.

  8. I'm gathering documents for AOS, I have IRS transcript for both my father and I, do we still need to send w2 forms? Also my dad is a naturalized citizen, do we need to send copy of his certificate or wil the passport do? No, you don't need to send the W2/1040 forms if you have the tax transcripts. The passport will do for your father.

Do I need to send his birth certificate? No, you need to send yours which lists him as the father in order to prove your relationship to each other.

Are the letters from the bank necessary or current checkig, savings account details also necessary? We have current pay stubs for both of us and will also be submitting the deed of trust from our home.. Only if you are using the checking/savings accounts as proof of assets in order to get to the required amount. If your father's income is sufficient by itself, then they're not needed.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.
