  1. I fought to get Zak circ'ed in the hospital. The Dr. On call from my OB practice would only do it in his office (probably because he could charge more). Anyway, I had to get Zak on my health insurance ASAP because they told me after 2 weeks old it had to be done by a urologist under general anesthesia. We managed to get it done. They tried to get me to come in and told me they used injectable pain meds. No thank you. It was hard enough seeing him wince and cry the first time he urinated. My husband still remembers his. He was about 6 and him and his younger brother had it done and had a huge party.

  2. We have to put a gate up across their bedroom door. Hana is usually pretty good. Zak has been falling asleep by the gate. We put him to bed and he stays there all night. Not as bad as I thought it was going to be with him. He'll get the hang of it soon. Hana took about a week or two.

  3. I failed the one hour test when pregnant with the twins. Because I got put on bedrest soon after, they didn't want me to sit for the three hour so I did blood sugar testing for a month. Luckily, I was fine. Hopefully, you will be as lucky too Kelly.

Well...we survived the first night of Zak in a big boy bed. We have found out he doesn't like change. He cried about it for an hour and then went to his bed and slept the night. Hoping tonight will be a little easier.

  4. @Kelly. It was so helpful when we took Hana to the allergist. It turned out to be something totally different than what we thought. Now that we avoid those foods, her immunity seems better and she hardly ever vomits. Good luck with it!

    @EoG: Madeline is beautiful! Congrats!

  5. We had two spacesaver dining seats at first. It turned into a disaster for us because our two figured out a way to loosen the straps and then kick off anything nearby to tip the seats. Considering my two houdinis, I would pay attention to how the tray attaches. The fisher price high chair someone gave us has latches on the side. My two figured out early how to get the tray off. The Eddie Bauer one we have only has a front latch and at almost 22 months, they haven'tfigured it out yet.

  6. Lisa,

We had problems with Zak when we switched formulas. We tried a few until we found one that didn't constipate him. So...it is quite possible it could be the formula.

BTW...both my twins didn't get back up over their birthweight until they were 4 weeks old. They each lost about a pound and were both born at about 6.5 lbs. I am still a little neurotic about their weight almost two years later because of the multiple peds appts to track them. Then even had us wake Zak up every 1.5 hours to feed him. That was not fun. :( Just know it will get better! BTW... When I was going to wound care for my c-section incision, I was allowed and encouraged to use Desitin in the drainage areas. It is the only thing I found to help Hana with her recurrent, raw diaper rash.

  7. Gabby, I doubt any doctor will induce you earlier than 39 weeks, unless it is for medical reasons. I was pregnant with twins, on hospital bedrest, and couldn't even get clearance for a c-section due to mild pre-eclampsia until 37 weeks. The peri was telling me the new thinking is to at least 39 weeks with singletons and 37 weeks with twins.

We took the twins to the pumpkin patch Friday night. We had lots of fun! Zak thinks the pumpkins are orange balls!

  8. I thought I would post here as well what some of my local twin mommies turned me on to...Amazon mom www.amazon.com/mom You can order diapers online and have them shipped to your house for free for a fraction of what you pay locally. I just ordered Pampers with them and got a super gigantic box, shipped to my house, for $26. This box is $38 at my local Sam's and $40 at BRU. Yay for saving money!

As for Hana's first night in a big girl bed, she did ok. It took 45 minutes for her to finally go to bed and sleep. Then...she woke up at 5am. So...it wasn't as horrible as it could have been.

  9. Hana and Zak are going to be a vampire princess and vampire. I wanted to get them early because you need to find a light weight outfit for FL (and sometimes that is hard). And let me say, I got Hana a 3T/4T size and it is almost too small! We have a multiples Halloween party to go to the weekend before Halloween and then on Halloween we are going trick-or-treating with my friends from work and their kids which are about my duo's age. Should be fun this year (especially once my two figure out they are getting chocolate -- they LOVE chocolate).

  10. OMG...some of these stories are hilarious!

We have our hands full in our household at the moment. We have one who likes to push the other and another who likes to bite and pull hair. I lost track of how many timeouts we did this weekend. The only good thing, they behaved themselves at daycare today. I was telling my co-workers today that whomever said the hardest part of twins was the first 4 months was on crack. Twin toddlers is 10 times harder, and more fun! I have co-workers who had kids around the time we did. My two are well-behaved, generally, but are definitely much more inquisitive. They are in to EVERYTHING, have to see EVERYTHING, and give their input about EVERYTHING! Hana told Hicham the other night at dinner, "Baba. Eats. Sit down." I thought my husband did a double-take. Apparently his aunt in Morocco was always telling him to sit down and eat and to stop doing what he was doing. She is definitely going to be our precocious one!

  11. My husband had said the ssame thing as the rest of you. He stated he probably won't tell his family about Hana because he doesn't know if they will even know what it means. If we stopped putting so many fillers in our food we would be doing much better.

  12. I took Hana to the allergist today. She does test positive for two food allergies -- squash and wheat. So our household will be interesting since I am really allergic to soy. He thinks she probably has some environmental allergies as well. We are going back next week to test for those.

  13. Hellooo all the new and expecting mommies,

haven't been on this board in a minute.

@Kelly, How cute! LOL Zaid was putting his toddler foot down.

Poor Nasim sees anyone in scrubs and says " I dont want a shot Mommy".. Kids are soso smart.

@ Twila, I would def get that tested with a pediatric allergist. Nasim is deathly allergic

to milk, and bc I breast fed I didn't know... all of a sudden he kept getting bronchitis and then pnuemonia

at like 6 mos. Got referred to asthma clinic for wheezing and they said he had asthma and was getting

triggered to bronchiolitis. Sent across the hall the allergist and found out it was strong allergic reaction to milk protein. And

my consumption of milk was most likely getting into the breastmilk, and causing out of control wheezing

that led up to pnuemonia. Twice LOL.

All that to say, it took some detective work but I immediately stopped b.feeding and

put him on soy formula. All that constant wheezing ceased. But have to constantly read labels. I use

olive oil instead of butter, marg./& breads, cakes all that with milk are a no go. He has Epi pen Jr, and

benadryl stocked at daycare, home, even aunts houses lol.

Go with your gut, if u think its a trigger response get it checked out. I cant imagine

if Nasim would have actually had a cup of cows milk.

On a side note, the iphone has this cool app my friend showed me that has capability to type in food

allergic to, and allows you to choose a restaurant, pulls up the menu, and tells you what

you can order or not order based on the food you type in to avoid. It even allows you to take pic of

sku bar code in grocery store and pulls up the food item, and lets you know if its a safe food.

Im switching to at&t from verizon based on that one app :)

Do you know the name of that app? I could use it!

  14. These sound like intolerances - like lactose intolerance. My cousin has food allergies and was born with the, and for most of his young life could only eat about 6 different things. He can now consume about 12 different foods, but it is unbelievable what true food allergies are like.

My sister, the one with banana allergy as a kid, now has a SEVERE latex allergy as an adult. She has to carry an epi-pen with her. My reaction to soy is moderate. But as my allergist says, this is for now. I need to keep avoiding as much soy as possible to avoid entering the severe category because all of this has only manifested itself in the past 10 years. I have since found out the reason bandaids leave marks on me is due to the fact they use soy in the adhesives. I can't eat margarine, salad dressings, vegetable oil (or things cooked in it), etc. The list kind of expands every year as I figure out new things that bother me. For me, the tingling lips are the first clue and usually I spit it out at that point. I just want Hana to stop the vomiting, not have the runny nose/cough, the shiners under her eyes, and feel good. (She just vomited yesterday morning when Baba unthinkingly gave her tropical fruit juice. Uhmmmm...HELLO! I told him tonight the list of things that have the same proteins as bananas that we will try to avoid until we know if that is definitely it on Wednesday.)

  15. Kelly: Good to hear that all is good. I bet your little girl is going to be just fine and healthy as can be.

Twila: I'd write down everything Hana eats to see what causes the rash. She's sstill pretty young so she's probably not yet on a full blown grow up plan. that should make it easier to control what she's eating. Does the babysitter have any idea what might have caused the rash and did you check with the pediatrician that it's not a yeast rash?

The peds have seen the rash a couple of times and told me it wasn't a yeast infection, just a typical diaper rash. We have been fighting this off and on since July. It will get better and almost be gone and then reappear with a horrible vengeance. It is funny because my mom and I were thinking about food allergies because my mom says Hana acts like my little sister did when she was the same age. It took my mom to take her to another doctor to find out she wasn't a hypochondriac and that my sister had allergies to bananas, chocolate, peanut butter, and a few other things. Independent of my mom and I talking, my daycare provider says to me one day that about two hours after feeding her some fruit, she noticed her diaper rash got really red and inflamed again and she is wondering if she has food allergies. Add to this my complaint to our ped that Hana will projectile vomit for seemingly no apparent reason at least once a month, sometimes multiple times in one day, but it is hard to predict a pattern. It hasn't been so much as to send her to a gastroenterologist, but we have thought about it. This has been going on since we started her on solid foods. My babies wouldn't eat baby cereal at ALL. So...we fed them a lot of the baby pureed fruits. I just have this gut feeling she is allergic to bananas and quite possibly strawberries. There is a family history of food allergies. Besides my sister's allergies, I am very allergic to soy. So...it wouldn't be a stretch to see Hana have some. I made an appt for her with my allergist (who also is a pediatric allergist) to see what he thinks and quite possibly get her tested.

  16. Anyone have an experience with pediatric allergies? My mom dealt with my sister as a toddler being diagnosed with food and environmental allergies. She really thinks Hana may have some food allergies too. I am beginning to wonder as well. Then, Friday the babysitter says to me out of the blue that she thinks Hana may have a food allergy because the diaper rash we have been fighting all of a sudden got a LOT worse with her late afternoon diaper change after lunch. Then...enter the scenario this week. Hana has a runny nose Monday afternoon / evening. She is fine on Tuesday...no runny nose or anything. This afternoon I pick her up and she has a runny nose again and all she did is cough all late afternoon / evening (from stuff going down her throat). I have an appt next week with my allergy/asthma doctor so I am going to ask him if he thinks it would be good to test her. Just wondering if there were any BTDT moms.

  17. Kelly -- keeping you in my thoughts. I know about crazy things happening. My second genetic screening at 18 weeks came back as 1 in 54 chance of Downs for one or both babies. Luckily I was going to a conservative perinatalogist at the time and he was cool with me not doing an amnio. (I was 33 at the time, so not considered AMA.) He had taken quite a few u/s pics by then and felt that the babies looked great and he agreed with me that we didn't have to do it. However, throughout the rest of the pregnancy, it was hard not to think every little thing they noticed might be because of that. I really had to tell myself to be positive. I know you can do it too!

The duo are speaking more and more everyday. They want to "talk" to everyone who calls me. Hana is making sentences and Zak is creating interesting words (Hicham brought them back chocolate from Italy and Zak loves asking for chocolakalakalakalaka.)

  18. I won't even chime in on the c-section stuff because I had no choice. I was told it was 50/50 with twins whether I could deliver vaginally. Well...Zak was breech and Hana was transverse. They had been that way for more than 10 weeks!!!! I consider it a blessing to have had the c/s at almost 37 weeks and not 28.5 weeks. They had me sign all the surgery consents when they put me in the hospital then. Luckily, I had a peri who believed A LOT in bed rest and giving it a try. He helped me get my two to a point where they didn't require the NICU, even though mom was falling apart (I survived from 28.5 weeks with mild pre-E. They only delivered me when my blood platelets finally dropped to a point where they were not happy.)

As for the paci/thumb issue, Zak has always been our high needs baby. OMG...it took forever to get him to sleep when he was a newborn. We tried swings, sounds, pacis, and me sleeping with him in the recliner. It took until about 8 weeks before he would sleep well. He would use a paci sometimes, but it wasn't alot. When he found his thumb, his world changed. He is a big thumbsucker. But honestly, I prefer it over a paci. I got sick of trying to find them, sterilize them, etc. Zak in the past month has become inseperable from his "MiMi" -- his blankie. He just needs lots of comforting and I am not going to deny him either. Hana never liked pacis at all, but sucks two of her fingers when she is tired. She has seen Zak with his blankie so it has become a thing this past week that she needs hers as well.

  19. I really only had the gas issues for the first day or two. I guess I was lucky in that regard. It was the retention of water and swelling of my legs for up to two weeks afterwards that was horrible (and luckily I had a good friend who had a c-section who forewarned me of it). I only took one painkiller at night. After a day of up and down with the twins, at night I was a little sore. My OB asked me 3 times if I wanted more percoset than I left the hospital with. Hell to the no! I hate taking meds unless I have to and I have a pretty high tolerance to pain. To be honest, even with wound care for the resulting infection afterwards, the c-section was less painful to recover from than my gallbladder surgery (and I dealt with than pain with tylenol for a few days).

The duo were being...well...acting their age today. I was losing my patience. I had to have the husband come deal with them for a while (a true first). At least the babies and I got a good two hour nap today and everything was a little better.

  20. Welcome to the world baby Nicholas! :star:

My husband finally returned from his overseas trip. Let's see...what happenned while he was gone. Friday night Zak decided to drink baby wash in the bath tub. He starts gagging so I pull him out. He vomits twice all over me. So...I take my clothes and the bath mat and toss them in the washer. Well...I forgot to pull my iPhone out. So...Saturday we head to the ATT store and I get a new one. Hana starts getting sick. She comes down with an upper respiratory infection and didn't want me to let her go for 2 straight days. In the meantime, Zak is bouncing (literally) off the walls. I was never so happy to have my mom show up Monday afternoon to lend a helping hand for two days. I survived. Hicham got back last night. Hana's face just lit up this morning when she saw him.

@Kelly: I hope it is not your gallbladder acting up. I had mine out a few years ago after a a gallbladder attack (the worst thing ever). Recovering from that surgery was worse than recovering from a c-section. Try to avoid fatty and spicy foods.
