  1. My wife picked up her passport in the evening with a brand-spanking-shiny-new visa on it!

Thanks to all VJers for their help and wishes!

I told my wife before the interview that you'll need to remember the questions so that we can post a review. I'm gathering all the questions and will post a detailed review by tomm....

Procedurally, It follows sachinky's experience to the T.

She stayed at the SwamiNarayan temple thats across from the VFS office where the bus takes off... That would be a good convenient place to stay.

  2. Just wanted to put my situation here if it helps someone:

We got married Dec 10th 2009. I inquired with our benefits dept and they said that you can add your wife when she moves to the US, since relocation is a "qualifying event". I'm thinking that companies have differing "qualifying events" based on their contracts with the health insurance companies. I'm lucky that was considered b/c I was outside the 30 day window when I inquired! :)

It is very surprising that relocation is NOT considered a "qualifying event" by ALL insurance companies. WHAT's the point if the dependent is not even in the US???

  3. Dont get you. I mean my wife has to go to Ahmedabad office as well. I still haven't gotten our NOA1 approved but I have asked her to send me all the necessary documents ahead of time. So for the PCC, what you are saying is wait till NVC sends you something to send list?

Yes, wait till you get a checklist letter from NVC... or you can try your luck and have your wife try to get the PCC...

My wife is from Ahmedabad, so it was easy for her to visit the office. She visited multiple times, each time taking NOA1, NOA2, Packet 3 letter, but they simply wouldn't budge. Finally, when she took the checklist letter we got, they accepted and gave her the PCC. This situation is consistent with other VJer's experience at the Ahmedabad Passport office.

  4. Did you have to send in your Passport office clearance with DS230 form? I thought Passport office in India doesn't give you the clearance until you have the checklist. Am i missing something or am i given the wrong information.

No we did not have to send it in... Although they did have to send our case to a supervisor to review and close it.

Ahmedabad Passport office is very particular about this. My wife was able to take a "false" checklist letter to the PO and they gave her the PCC. So the key requirement is a checklist letter from NVC, regardless of whether it mentions the PCC or not. In our case they also required to see the original PCC from the local police since her passport was older than 3 months.

EDIT: the checklist was false in the sense that it didn't mention that the PCC was missing. We got it b/c we had not yet sent in the DS230 form.

  5. I got an email for the RFE. It's for the PPC from Passport office. We had already mentioned on the Cover Letter that the Ahmedabad passport office DOES NOT provide the PCC w/o the interview letter!!! Other folks have done the same thing and they've accepted it.... why? o why us???

It's another story that we were able to get the PO PCC using the false checklist that they generated on May 4th. So if they don't budge, we'll send that out.

there goes any chance of a June interview... Now I can only hope for July!!

  6. Just noticed this visa alert on mumbai embassy website. check it out:

    http://mumbai.usconsulate.gov/media/pdf-home/visa_alert.pdf

It says (not sure when it was posted):

    "Visa Alert: Technical Difficulties -

**Please be advised**: Due to technical problems with our internet

connectivity, the US Consulate Mumbai has been unable to print visas at normal

speed. This has caused delays in visa printing and affects all applicants in all

visa categories. We are responding to the problem as quickly as possible, and

will print visas and deliver passports as soon as we can. We sincerely apologize

to our visa applicants for any inconvenience or delayed travel. "
