Is it taboo to write thank you cards by hand? I wrote all my thank you cards (all 50+ of them!) by hand after my civil ceremony. I did write a personal message to each guest and so forth...
NOT taboo at all, I would think that it is expected that a handwritten note will be given for each thank you, not some type written "form thank you note" as if it wasn't even you who wrote it. I was astonished when I saw these "form thank notes" in stationary magazines. How tacky!

I received my first official "wedding" gift today from some friends of mine. I couldn't figure out why there were two Target envelopes with what felt like credit cards in them. Turns out someone sent us gift-cards in the mail. Wrote my first wedding gift thank you card today and yes it was HAND WRITTEN.
I had been invited to a former student's wedding shower this last weekend. I couldn't attend but sent a gift with a friend. I knew this girl's handwriting. The card I received must have been written by her mother because it was NOT the bride's handwriting. I thought, how tacky. Almost worse than those pretyped message "thank you" notes people can buy.

NBC Report
in Canada
I am surprised they accepted the returns without tags. I saw this video this morning. I was so grossed out. I totally wash the undies before I wear them and other clothes as well because who knows who has tried them on in the store or taken them home and then returned them.

Congratulations! Have fun in Wisconsin, my home state! Where are you guys going to settle there? I grew up in central Wisconsin.

I am going to call the Montreal embassy on Friday to see if they have opened the mail and logged receipt of my fiance's packet 3. Then more waiting for an interview date. I just want to know the date, that is all, then I can start planning a wedding more in earnest. May more of us hear good news of packets 3 and interview dates coming soon.
-
Well that gives me some reference. My fiance's packet 3 made it to Montreal on Feb. 19. I am planning to call next week Friday (March 5) to see if it is logged in or not. I am hoping my fiance' gets an early to mid June interview. I am a teacher and would love to enjoy my summer vacation on an extended "honeymoon" since he can't work until he gets his EAD.

-NEXUS Card:
Pros: Acceptable border crossing document for a minor. Can cross in the 'fast lane' (if me and and my husband get one too). Wallet sized.
Cons: Interview, questioning, background check. Additional photos needed?
Costs: $50. 5 years. ?? weeks wait (anyone knows how long it takes?)
Questions: How long does it take to get one? What happens during an interview? Is one's "country of birth/place of birth" listed on it? What happens for citizens of both countries..which country do they list for citizenship...both...one or other? (lol...maybe I might apply for one too..)
Ant
I don't know about a minor child (seems like I had to have a passport in order to get a NEXUS card but there may have been other acceptable proof of identity pieces) but when I went for my NEXUS interview, it took all of 45 minutes (I think I had to wait about 10 days to get into the location I wanted to interview at) and I had my card back within 7 calendar days. Going across the border, especially into Canada where all the border guard does is look at the card, look at his computer screen, and then wave at me (no more detailed conversation) to keep on going. They can stop to talk to you/check your luggage. I had mine searched on the way BACK INTO the U.S. and they found a plastic bag with a allergy pill I was "travelling light" with. Thankfully I had a bottle of the medication in my purse and I didn't get pulled into secondary inspection. All in all, I LOVE my NEXUS card. Totally worth the faster trip into CANADA and the reserved lane on the Blue Water bridge back into the U.S. All depends on your point of entry though. I went through Detroit Windsor and there wouldn't have been much help in getting to the NEXUS lane faster than the other car lanes, but it would reduce the interviewing at the border booth.

Seems like a few more of the IR1/CR1 folks received interview dates today. Any of the K-1 people without dates receiving good news yet?

I can't decide where to register.
I really wanted to register at Macy's but they don't let Canadians order online with a CDN credit card, they need a US billing address... so that would be silly since most of my guests are in Canada.
How rude! I am registered there.
Bed Bath and Beyond will let Canadians order, but they have to call customer service, can't just order online.Everytime I drive down the 401, I see Bed Bath and Beyond somewhere near Toronto. It is one of the reasons we registered there. At least they can order "somehow".
I like Target, but we have a lot of stuff from there already.I registered there just because I got a "we will give you a $20 gift card if you register for 10 or more items". That wasn't hard and I used the gift card to buy some frilly things I wanted but wouldn't have spent my hard earned cash on.
My other options are to register in Canada and then bring back all our gifts over the border... which I'm not sure I want to do.... but im not completely dismissing either. My fiance' and I registered at Home Outfitters in Canada mostly for his relatives that want a "real" store to go to purchase something. They actually had the cheapest down comforter of the 3 places we registered. Sheets were cheapest at Bed Bath and Beyond for some really nice 400 count ones. I am hoping people purchase the things and bring them to the wedding (which will be in the U.S.) so we don't have to deal with "importing" them. We will just have to wait and see.

K-1 people waiting for interviews at Montreal
this is the thread with Montreal K-1 waiters.
Seems to be about 3 weeks wait for the packet 3 to arrive after the consulate receives your package from the NVC. Then about 4 months from when the consulate receives your packet 3 back from the Canadian citizen to an interview date. That is just based on several different timelines as of late.
My fiance' waited 3 weeks to get his packet 3 so that part of the wait was dead on based on current trends. Now we are waiting for packet 4 (letter with interview date) but I don't expect it for another couple of months (seems like people have been told the future interview date after about 2 months after Montreal receives packet 3 back).
Welcome to the WAIT!

Hope the snow tends toward the 3cm variety instead of the 8 cm variety so it won' t hold up your flight. Good luck!

My future father-in-law is concerned that there is "terrible snow" just the other side of Toronto and that my fiance' who is driving from Kingston, Ontario will have difficulty making it to Michigan. Yes, it is snowing along the 401. Yes, it will be snowing tomorrow but there are no warnings of snow squalls or anything. Radar seems pretty clear except out East of Kingston. My fiance' is coming to Michigan to visit anyway. Yeah! Hope it doesn't snow too much tomorrow...

I think Secretary of State is so annoying! Sad to hear you can't get your drivers license in Michigan yet. Wait in long lines at the Secretary of State and then not get what you wanted in the end, that has been my experience. Changing my name once my fiance gets here from Canada (still waiting for an interview in Montreal) doesn't sound like much fun but I can't wait until I can do change it!
-
Oh, good, since I just had a slight heart attack. We didn't put any picture on the DS-156. It says "Do not write in this space" so if figured I shouldn't put anything there. We just uploaded the picture for the online form and that is it. We will bring the 2 photos to the interview.

This last Christmas when I went to a Canadian grocery store for the first time, my jaw dropped. Granted it was a Loblaws. Upscale it would seem. Lots of deli and specialty stuff. I was surprised at the cost though. Much higher than I expected compared to things I normally buy. Loblaws actually reminded me a lot of Wegman's which back when I was in college and spent a summer in Ithaca New York was an awesome grocery store.
I LOVE Aldi's. When my Canadian fiance' tried to tell me that No Frills was the same as Aldi's, I disagreed. About the only thing that is the same is that you have to pay for your shopping cart when you go in.
I like natural peanut butter ( to get to the point of the OP). I love the Aldi brand of natural peanut butter. No hydrogenated oils or anything.
I am just glad that Miracle Whip exists in Canada otherwise my fiance' might have a hard time acclimating to the U.S because there will be no Hellman's "Real Mayonnaise" in this household.

first thing she wants to do is see the snow LOL!! will have to drive up to Tahoe Saturday morning !!
LOL! That is too funny! I just got done shoveling 1/2 of my sidewalk and it took me 30 minutes to move the heavy wet snow. Come on out to Michigan. There is lots of the white stuff everywhere!

My fiance' and I just had his packet 3 delivered to Montreal and we are "hoping" for July 11. Even have booked the church (with the understanding the date could change) and the photographer (with the understanding the date could change). I just needed something to tell people. But then again it make people antsy when they want to ask for vacation time but I can't say "with confidence" the wedding date will be July 11. Based on other timelines for Montreal, he will likely have his interview 3 weeks before our wedding. But we just don't know. I am planning for July 11 anyway.

I also chose a tiara and boots from online which I'm ordering soon. Possibly already chose a veil... I'll see today at the bridal shop. I'll be doing my own nails, makeup, and hair.
Where did you buy your tiara?
I would definitely check out projectwedding.com It has awesome ideas on all sorts of things. LOTS of pictures of real women and their hair styles with veils, tiaras, etc. I think I spent 6 hours looking through all the options. YIKES.
One day closer to eternity with the man I love!
