At which point did you get held up? USCIS or NVC? By the way, I have also gone ahead and contacted ALL of my senators and congresspeople!

Wonderful. Told today by the USCIS that although they list 5 months time as processing for a I-129F, processing times as long as 6-8 months are not uncommon.
