  1. Another 'option' you might want to consider adding is something my former partner and I discussed.

He was of the opinion that the man always prefers to sleep nearest the door so as to 'protect' his partner by being between her and anyone who might enter the room. I've no idea if this was just his male chivalry at work or if there is anything more extensive than that, although I do find it interesting that when my husband and I discussed 'sides of the bed' preferences, he chose the left - which coincidentally, is the side nearest the door :D .

That's part of the reason for my preference, to feel safe (or alternatively, trapped by him ;) ). Also, when we talked online before we met in person, both of us had our beds with the "left" side against the wall, and even though we slept alone, he slept toward the right and I slept toward the left. I somehow knew before he confirmed it that his room was set up that way. The room we're in now (in my parents' house, set up by them) happens to be set up 'correctly' for us (though there's space between my side and the wall. I preferred being right next to the wall but I'm getting used to the space to walk and may want it when we move to our own place). In hotels, we've kept our sides even if the room was arranged with the left closer to the door. The downside to our current sleeping arrangement is I like to read in bed, and the nightstand with lamp is on his side. :P

Other reasons I've heard are, one partner wants to be closer to the WC, or closer to the door to attend to children.

    1. Tested in Firefox 3.6.13 and IE 6.

    2. Shortcuts through steps 2 and 3: http://www.visajourney.com/gallery/albmgr.php

  3. Even if you're currently separated from your partner because of the visa process, if you know your preferred sides, please answer the first question as if you live together.

    The essay portion:

What are the reasons for your preferences?

How easy or difficult was it to agree who would sleep where?

Is one partner's preference stronger than the other's?

If you have set sides at home, might you switch sides in another place, for example a hotel, depending on the layout of the room or other factors?

  4. The I-864 does have space for the past 3 years in question 25. I believe the OP is asking about question 23, "My current individual annual income is:"

What if your current income is very different from your most recent tax return (for example you are working for a different company)? From what I understand from the I-864 instructions, you can use the letter from your employer, and your last 6 months of pay stubs, to make a case that "If I had been working at this same rate of pay all year, my annual income for the current year would have been $X."

  5. I'll gladly choose the backscatter scan over a frisking because I have a phobia of being touched. I'm very aware of people nearby and go out of my way to avoid having my back to people. Expected touch is tolerable. Unexpected touch startles me severely and causes lasting pain from muscle tension that takes a long time to dissipate. Anticipation of touch that never materializes can cause the same. Firm touch is more tolerable than light touch. I don't know how firm or light the new improved TSA patdown is but if I don't have to find out firsthand, so much the better.

As for the embarrassment factor, I would personally feel much less embarrassed about the images, when there are similar images of everyone else who goes through it, than the potential embarrassment of having a panic attack, or even "only" convulsing or screaming, causing a scene. Not to mention likely being considered "suspicious" for having anxiety in whatever form. <_<

  6. We filled them out (156 online, 156K on paper) and mailed them in as part of Packet 3, but were also asked for them at the interview. Do you have copies?

BUT, the man at the window gave us back what seemed like everything we mailed in with P3. So, who knows, maybe if we'd forgotten them he would've just kept the ones he had.

  7. All I can say is be careful you ask questions at the jewelry store - we had a wedding ring nightmare about 1 yr after our wedding.

We had purchased them at Ben Moss in Canada (a reputable enough place you'd think) about 4 months before the wedding - white gold and each was engraved

1 year later I take my band off for some reason and was looking at it in the light and noticed it had 'flaked' near the engraving...now ...a wedding ring should NOT flake considering it's solid gold.

Well - guess what - it wasn't - they had sold us gold plated wedding bands....and it was almost funny because from the day we out them on - they didn't seem as 'white gold and gleaming' as we expected them to be...but we figured, ok - whatever. I was very, very upset - it pi$$ed me off that they had made something I considered important into a piece of cheap #######....the warrantee on a wedding ring which is engraved had long run out....we'd bought them in Canada and weren't planning on going anywhere back home anytime soon. We dropped by Jared's and they confirmed it was just gold plated.

So we ended up buying new bands at Kays and this time we went for Palladium - which is a step down from Platinum...a wee bit cheaper, but equally fine looking...slightly heavier them gold....and beautifully silver.

Definitely ensure you are getting solid gold...ask them to confirm...if that's what you want that is.

F...Ben Moss is all I have to say. I considered going to the Better Business Bureau back in Kitchener...but frankly....I don't have time

    :wow:

Sorry that happened to you! Thanks for the warning! Unrelated, Kay Jewelers is likely where we're getting ours.

  8. @Hugglebuggles:

Nope, nothing out of the ordinary, plain white gold bands. I wonder why they say so long. o_o

    @Marilyn.:

Pretty pic! That was poopeh of that lady to change your request on you though.

  9. Hotel Le Dauphin Centre-Ville is a two block walk from the consulate. It's also a 3 block walk from Complexe Desjardins, a mall with a Canada Post on the bottom level. The levels are colour-coded; look for the lime green sign for the lower level. I also recommend the poutine at Franx Supreme in the mall food court. :D There's a shuttle from the airport, the 747 Express, that stops 2 blocks away from Le Dauphin: get off at stop 6, Rue Jeanne-Mance. Don't do what I did and count alleys on Google Maps as streets; pay attention to street names and you'll be fine. :bonk:

The hotel was quite nice. Cleanliness is very important to me and Le Dauphin gets an 'A'. The people at the front desk were helpful and spoke English. The room came with a PC. Apparently the hotel has WiFi, but I just plugged the cat5 from the room PC into my laptop. The shower was nifty: walls and floor of small tile, with instead of a door or curtain, just a wall and a half of stationery glass sealed together at the corner. They have a larger selection than the usual continental breakfast; they even have a cappuccino machine. Breakfast starts at 06:00, so plenty of time to check out, get breakfast, and get to the consulate.

  10. We were careful to sign all the stuff in the I-129F packet in blue. Then I made the two copies of everything, in colour, and found for some pages it was hard to tell the difference. After that we made sure to put a few pieces of paper underneath anything that needed an original signature (instead of signing on a hard surface), because it seemed the indent in the paper would be a truer indication of an original signature than the colour of the ink.

  11. I checked half a dozen jewelry stores and most say it takes 2-3 weeks to order wedding bands. Good thing I didn't wait 'til after Dave moves here 2 weeks before the wedding! :o

We're going with a different florist than I first spoke with. The new one says roses can't be dyed the same way as other flowers, they don't wick the water up the stem. Instead they need to be spray-painted. (We want blue roses like in the place in the game world where our characters first met, see my sig.) She spray-painted a carnation for me and the next day I couldn't smell the spray paint unless I put my nose right up to it. I'm glad the florist tells it like it is!

We finally have/know where to get all the parts required to make the wedding favours, w00tz! Mom's done addressing the invitations in super neat calligraphy. :) Still need to get printer to recognise the size of the invitations instead of erroring "Paper Mismatch". Cake topper is *mostly* done, just needs a few finishing touches. (Srsly the way I do art projects it won't be done 'til the day before it's "due". :P

  12. Our appointment was for 08:00. We were in line at 06:36. I had to go back to the hotel 5 minutes before 07:30 to get something and the security guard letting people in told Dave it would cause less confusion if he waited for me before going in. So he waited for me and we were let in at 07:35, which is 5 minutes before Packet 4 told us to be there, so... still don't know. X)

  13. I don't mind if they look at mine either, pics and comments about visits just confirm our relationship is real. My FI has even friended some of my cousins, and the adjudicators can see he and I were obsessed with 2 vampire games last year and lost interest in them at the same time. And my VJ name is the name of my char in the game where we met, if they Google both our names they just find more evidence of us knowing each other a few years. ^^
