I'd love to go. In fact, I have dreams about going back. Unfortunately, it's just not possible with my current budget. Used to be I could cover the whole trip with a few thousand bucks. Now I need to buy more tickets, as well as the obligatory "gift" cash that Viet Kieu are expected to bring with them. My wife's uncle says $10K would cover it, but her nephew says his first trip back cost $20K!
It breaks my heart because Phuong is watching her granddaughter grow up on webcam. Maybe we'll be able to go this coming spring.
What gift cash?? from who? to who? I guess i never knew about that custom. For what is it?

i never said anyting about not being truthful.scott said to me in another post i met my wife when i was still married.... even though i was seperated when i met her online. and he told some one else the c/ o only sees the f2f as the first meeting
so if i went to vn after i was divorced did i meet my wife when i still married to my ex or not. some one else had knew there girl for 3 years online and married on the first trip to vn.so did he met her 3 years ago or meet her online? thats all i was asking about. im happy it wasnt a issue for you, did you have kids near your wifes age??? I never would think of not being truthful and i have even thought of taking apolygraph test to prove we are a true relationship. but from a talk i had with a c/o some years ago he doesnt put a whole lot of weight in them he says .

I knew i was getting divorced and had planned to come to vietnam just for a get awayand to relax. But i got online one night in vn chat room and met my wifeso when i went to vietnam i spent my time there with her only. It just doesnt make sense to me to me that c/o s see red flags in peoples relationship and they get those red flags just from people being honest. doesnt make sense

I met my current wife before my divorce was finalized. It was not an issue for us.
Telling the truth is always wise. The interview can be a high pressure event for your fiance(e). Don't add to it by revising history. Focus on proving a bona fide relationship.

I just wanted to let everyone know that is struggling with their case and might need a lawyer, Marc Ellis would be the one to use. He is patient and understanding of our pain and sorrow. He will help you every bit he can. He is reasonably priced and does what he said he would do. My case was a mess and we did not think that we could do anything about it. Marc talked with my husband and I and wrote our rebuttal and told us what to put together and send in. If it was not for his letter and his work I do not believe my husband would be here with me today. He is a wonderful compassionate lawyer. He is on this site and also on Visa Talk If you need to contact him please contact me and I will pass along his email address to you if you can't find it on this site. It is nice to know we have support. My prayers are with you all that are still waiting or just beginning this journey. God Bless.
just wondering ...why is marc ellis on this site? and visa talk?

Danger will robinson danger... "only made 1 trip to VN" .... has anyone been approved having met and got engaged on the first and only trip before they filed the petition? I know that you guys have known each other through the internet for a long time, but IMO the CO considers the F2F meeting the first meeting... and would likely consider having met and got engaged in a short period of time... I'm not trying to sound all gloom and doom, but dont expect a pink at the interview... You have some big red flags in your case and it would take a great interview to overcome them first go...
FYI.. no co-sponsors on K1's @ HCMC... they allow them for CR1's from time to time...
How long was engagement before filing?
yeah but scott
the other day you told me i met my wife when i was still married even though we was seperated on we only chatted online and i actually met her face to face after i was divorced?so would it be better to my case to say we met f2f after i divorced and not say anyhting about the chats and in his case to show the old chats he has and let the chips fall where they may?Why give the c/o more bullets?

The CO looks at dates... On paper, you were still married to your Ex when you met your current online... you worded it right... maybe I didnt.. they wont look at the date you seperated because there is likely no documentation of that event, there is a government doc for a divorce... so they will see you meeting online on day X, Divorcing on Day Y and then meeting in person on day Z... At least you waited until trip 2 to get married... others have really jumped the gun and did it first trip... As Curtis said.. time is on your side and patience will be your best asset as it will help you document a solid relationship...
thanks everyone

The fact that you were married when you 'met' her and that it was to someone who potentially married you for a green card could cause them to look deeper ... the fact that you waited to get married again is a good thing...
How to address this before it gets to the consulate is debateable... I wonder what other VN members think about how to address this issue in the initial filing.... An affidavit/timeline explaining the end of one relationship and the start of the new?
we didnt marry when we "met" we met online after my wife and i seperated and we chatted everyday. then after my divorce was final ,i went to vietnam for 2 weeks.then 8 months later we married .maybe i didnt word that very good .sorry

hello everyone
I been hanging around here on vj for while now getting bits of information here and there and worried all the while. I was married to woman from vietnam in 2007 and about 8 moths after she came over her two kids followed. We seperated after i found out she had been cheating on me.At the time we seperated she was a conditional resident. After i filed for divorce i contacted my local immigration office and told them of her cheating and that i had filed for divorce . I was told theres nothing i could do and she could file a waiver and stay in usa. I quit my job and left the small town we lived in.
About a month later i was bored and went to a chat room and met someone i felt a great connection with and when my divorce was final i was back to vietnam for two wonderful weeks.I had planned to come back many times before we got married but due to the economy and her parents not really wanting us to go anywhere until we were married we decided to get married on my second trip. I was in vn for 41 days and now have been married for over 3 months now and been talking on the phone and internet now for over a year.
She has a brother in usa but hes a step brother and he has only came to vn about 5 times since he came to usa by boat in 1975.I love her very much and so worried i dont want to let her down. I told her before we married i thought it would be next to impossible for us to get approved but she just smiled and said then you can move to vietnam with me is ok for me honey.
does anyone have any good advice for us? I have a letter from the wife of the man my ex lives with now . and i called ice and made a report with them. I divorced before she was permenent resident so i dont know how they could think i was just bringing some one to usa. What can we do?
Thanks

Here is the CR1 guide. It has the forms that you need. http://www.visajourney.com/content/i130guide1
-The I-130 costs $355
-The NVC total costs are $70 (I-865 affidavit of support) plus $400 (DS-230 visa application)
-The interview, I am a bit confused about how much it is costing; a month ago it was around $130 but I believe they raised it to $400
-the medical appointment needed for the interview costs $100-$150 depending on the country
-After two years in the US you will have to pay $495 to get the ten year green card
-After three years you can become a citizen which costs money
-You will have many other expenses like sending documents back and forth, airline tickets, etc.
It is expensive, but the K1 is even more so. If you have been married two years, you do not have to pay the $495 to get the ten year green card because you are automatically granted one, but its probably not worth waiting.

there is a whole street of it on 3 Thang 2 St in District 10 across from the Maximart Supermarket. I had mine done at Jeen My. I think it was 500 usd. It include an album, DVD, 200 wedding banquet photos, 2 suits for the male, 3 dress for the female, and we get to use the suit and dress for our wedding too....
Thanks everybody
