  1. I think something to remember when using VJ guidelines is that when people receive their NOA2, probably not the first thing on their mind is updating their VJ timeline, and I would imagine a fair proportion of people never update it once they receive their NOA2 and beyond.

End of the day there is nothing we can do but sit and be patient, while VSC mess around doing what ever it is they are doing currently (which I believe may involve racing ferrets!)

  2. Hi,

On the guide provided here it says to get your SSN 2 weeks after entering the US in order to make sure you are on the system, then get married.

However, is it possible to get married, then apply for your SSN afterwards, before doing the AOS? Alternatively I believe if I didnt get a SSN while on my I-94 from the K-1 visa I would have to wait till i got my EAD?

  3. Money I've lost is money I spent here and there when i was with him and visa $$$. I discover that he was mis leding me when I talk with the Immigration officer in mid Nov. that the Passport and visa was handed to him in the begining of Nov. ON NOVEMBER HE TOLD ME HE JUST GOT THE VISA... that's how i know he was a deceiver. The actual visits to the embassy is only 3 but what he told me is li 7-8 times.

What I heard from his friend is that he told them he's got a scholarship to go to USA schools... They didn't know he's coming to marry me!

This still doesn't make sense because the K-1 visa cannot be used as an academic visa to come to america and study.

Something in your story is not adding up, or you are not giving all the info.

  4. Hi,

    The situation is as follows:

I have applied for a K-1 visa (mid November), so expecting NOA2 around about feb (VSC) - No issues here thus far

I am currently in America, returning to the UK on the 23rd of January for the home country side of things (medical, interview etc etc)

A company in America has expressed interest in employing me, and here is where it gets confusing:

In a nutshell, can me/the company apply for a work permit now (while the k-1 is processing), so that when i return on the K-1 visa in HOPEFULLY april, I am able to work instantly without waiting to get married, do AOS, wait 2 months for the work permit that comes with that?

  5. When I told the ConOff that I met my husband online he asked for the name of the website. That doesn't mean to say that it will happen to you, but I thought I'd better let you know that it does happen sometimes.

was feeling better till i read this lol. I cant see how it matters where we met though as long as what I say is consistant and the truth?

  6. London doesn't really care how you met, they focus more on the financial aspect of the process.

If they do ask, just say "We met on a social networking site, hit it off, start chatting and met face to face x weeks/ months later when I/he/she flew to wherever and spent x weeks/months together getting to know each other in person.' No word of a lie but you moved the conversation onto your face to face meeting, which is what they're more interested in.

Thanks, this was essentially what i was planning on doing.

Interesting that they focus more on the financial side, despite a notice on their own site saying they dont require the affadavit forms filled out (we are taking them as a precaution, as better safe than sorry, but just a point of interest.)

  7. Hi,

A rather odd question here but here goes.

We are currently waiting on our K-1 NOA2, but thinking ahead to the interview. My question is regarding the inevitable "how did you meet?" question...how much detail are they looking for here? Are they interested in how you first made contact online, or when you first met in real life, or just to check your answer matches up to what you put on the I129-F form?

The reason I ask is because we met under rather... embarrassing circumstances, i.e. in a chat room on a web site that i'm sure the American government does not approve of...

On the I-129f we said we met on a "social networking site" which is the truth, just a social networking site for strange people :P!

  8. Yeh the issue was i was coming over here for 3 months without a job at home (who has a job that they can take a 3 month vacation from?) and possibly because i said i was coming to stay with my fiancee.

I'm now just trying to think of an "extreme" scenario where they would turn you away with a visa....(Perhaps new evidence that you are a potential terrorist that came up after the visa was issued?)

  9. Hi,

After a very shaky entry into the US recently under the visa waiver program (where the officer let the guy in front of me in without an ESTA!), where I was nearly turned around for no good reason at all (2 interviews and treated like a criminal), I was curious to know if boarder guards have the authority to turn you away with an issued visa? (k-1 or otherwise).

    Regards,

    Arch
